American pit bull terriers live anywhere from 11 to 13 years old, that's my understanding. I'm a pit bull owner, my first, an American Staffordshire terrier, lived to be 13 years old.
I had a red nose pit. She was great friendly, loved to lick you crazy, sitting on your feet and hugs and kisses and always there and went to sleep with a blanket wraped around her. She didn't bother anyone unless I felt threaten. I had her fixed about 6 yrs ago. She started having siezures about 7 months ago. She was on medication for that and thyroid problem. She just passing away, limp but stop and start breathing, we had to let her go she was 10yrs and 5 months. Wish she lived till average 12yrs. Pitts are loving dogs with a loving family!!
Pittbuls are good dogs but people with discriminate you which I hate so much but Rottweilers are good dogs too
What does it mean when the hind legs of a 5 year old pit bull start coming out from under him
Any breed can be aggresive. It is how they are raised that makes them mean. I have had my pitbull for two years. She is the biggest lap dog ever. She is extremely loveable and since I got her as a guard dog I. THOUGHT I made a mistake with her. However, recently, she put herslf between me and danger so I know I made the right choice. I pray that she lives many more years as my friend and my protector.
Hi there, I have a gorgeous pitbull who is 12 years old. He is truly our baby. He's lovable, sweet, silly, thinks he's a person,my best friend. Today he was just diagnosed with cancer on his spine. We are devastated. They are talking surgery but don't know if it's wrapped around his spine, they may not even be able to get it. He never had any health problems before , just minor dry skin, etc. This happened so quick we noticed he wouldn't go up steps. I immediately took him to vet twice, then to 2 specialists . The mri showed cancer. We are in shock. My husband and I are sick . Please these dogs are absolutely the BEST dogs ever!!! I treasure every minute with him. Get a pit you will never regret it.
Please take him to the vet. If you can afford the mri do it. 5 is young . He may of herniated a disc which is what I wish our dog had done but he has cancer and I took him immediately to my vet when those happened but my guy is 12 . My post is a couple down. His left leg was definitely slowing down and it took 3 different docs to finally get mri. This was in a very short time. I knew he wasn't right. You know your dog. I pray it's just an injury for u cuz he's still a young boy but please keep an eye on him. Good luck
My pit is 14 hrs old..It's true, if the burglar pet him he'd help him take the stuff to his truck..lol. Now I do know he will protect me if he thought I was in trouble.
Notice your 1 out of 20, and this is coming from an owner who's dog was rescued from man...
It is very hard when a loved pet dies but think of all the good times you had together. Think of the good life you gave him and all the joy he gave you. Now think of all the unwanted and abused animals in the world that will never have a chance for the life Bugs got to enjoy. You are able to provide that for a shelter dog and enjoy whatever time that dog has to give you. Even though it hurts when it us time for them to go, the good times you give each other are totally worth it.
If you make a fast move toward me, my girl will have you.

Please do some real research and you will find that over 60% of deaths from dog attacks are by pit bulls. And many of them attack children or other family members including their owners. It's sad but true.
If you are wanting a guard dog, you shouldn't own a dog.
The average life span for an American Pit Bull Terrier is 12-14 years.
They are loving, active, fun, and easily trained at early age. I have a white-coated Pit bull Terrier that I had trained myself at the age of 15. She was easily trained as I associated it with treats, got along with everyone, though she looked beautifully tough. I say this because when I take her walking, people cross the sidewalk to avoid passing us, which I must admit is hilarious even though I felt bad.
They aren't for the purpose to only protect you, they demand attention of love and care and when given, they respond in defense when you are under attack.
