My eye doc told me I have calcium deposits inside my lower eyelids. What causes this? At first I thought I had an eyelash or a piece of trash inside my eyes but after the eye exampnation the doctor told me it was calcium deposits. What causes them and how can I get rid of them? Thank you for an answer.

I know it has been a year since you replied to the comments but I just wanted to add my two cents. I have had these inside my eyelids as well - approximately every 6 months or so. It started happening maybe 2 years ago. My eye doctor also just removes them in the office in about 10 minutes. They hurt. I am pretty sure I have one now because I am familiar with the feeling. Of course, it's a Saturday and nobody is open to fix it!!! I have too be uncomfortable and wait until Monday. If your eye doctor says there is nothing they can do about them, find another eye doctor because they can remove these in a quick procedure. I was told they can possibly be caused by irritation from long term contact wearing. I do not sleep in them and wear a fresh pair every day but they are starting to irritate my eyes. Time to look into lasik surgery!!
I just had a calcium deposit removed from inside my left lower eyelid. Felt like I had a grain of sand in my eye. The dr. numbed the area with some drops and took a needle and pricked it off so yes, they can be removed.
I am amazed that an external shampooing of the eyelashes can help the discomfort of a internal mineral deposit under the skin of an eyelid !
I have them too...been dealing with this for a few years now. I'm seeing a cornea specialist which treats them by removing them. However they come back. It is painful and I'm told there is no way of correcting. The one thing that helps is to wear a bandaid contact lense during the day which shields cornea from being scratched all day. At night obviously I remove the contact lense. When I wake, there is discomfort but if I use drops (no preservatives) helps! I've noticed extended screen (laptop/phone) use drys the eyes and makes it worse.
Hello, I'am 76 and I "ve been having them for about 4 years now. When they get big enough I just flush them out with water. They come out most of the time , Let little peace of hard something. HOPE this helps
I've had these in the past. An eye doctor removed them for me. The pain you are experiencing is the deposit scratching your eyeball. These need to be removed to keep from causing damage to the eye. Best of luck!
This is known as calcinosis. Calcium deposits are usually caused by underlying health conditions that increase the amount of calcium produced by the body. This may include excessive vitamin D intake, renal complications, lupus, hyperthyroidism or a simple genetic inheritance. Many people with dry eye syndrome have this issue. Some of this is also related to meibomian Gland dysfunction and many optometrists/opthamologists treat this condition. The deposits can be removed by a skilled physician with a fine needle in the office. There are drops to help soften them such as Xiidra or in some cases people have rubbed olive oil on their eyelids daily for a month to help dissolve and soften them.
