Happens to me all the time. Has happened for years. I don't use tampons. I have had quite a few pelvic infections. The ob/gyne stated the same thing as others, you need to arrive when it occurs. Like I could schedule something like my bodily fluids.

The best thing any of us could do is see a doctor as every case is unique and it appears there are so many different explanations. I have my appointment booked and will give an update in due course. In the mean time. This might explain some of the possible causes.

Hi ladies, I didn't read all 12 pages of this post so I'm not sure if someone has given you an answer. I am not a doctor but I can make an educated guess at what is going on. I work as a veterinary technician and have dealt a lot with blood. When your doctor (or your veterinarian) takes blood for tests that blood is often put in a centrifuge to spin which causes the blood to separate. What happens is the clear liquid, called plasma, comes to the top while platelets and red blood cells sink to the bottom. This separation will also happen if the blood is left sitting in a tube. So think of your tampon as the tube. When it clots in the fibers of the tampon it starts to separate so what you are seeing is your bloods plasma. Plasma constitutes more than half the content of blood and since the platelets and red blood cells soaked the tampon upon contact when the plasma separates out there is nothing dry left to soak it up so it leaks out. Just change your tampon more often to stop this from happening. It happens to me on occasion as well usually during the night while I am sleeping. Just wanted youall to know that nothing is wrong with you!

Same thing happened to me today. I don't wear tampons or take birth control. I'm 30 and this is my first real period since giving birth to my second child 15 months ago. I didn't really have any periods after having my first child because i got pregnant again so quickly.

I too have been experiencing the same problem for a few months.  I'm 41 years old and have been an avid tampon user most of my life but it's up until recently that I've only had this problem.  In addition to my tampon string being soaked, my underwear is as well, especially when waking up in the morning.   I addressed this to my OBGYN who also seems puzzled by this but why are so many woman experiencing this issue and not ONE doctor has an explanation?!?!  So this is what I came up in my own theory.... For a few years now, COTTON is one of the biggest GMO'd (genetically modified) products being grown (corn being #1).  Since woman seem to be experiencing this strange phenomenon when using tampons and pads (and cotton is mostly used to make these types of products) I'm starting to conclude that using them during our periods is doing something bad to our bodies since any GMO'd grown product is filled more toxins As they have "injected" pesticides into the seeds before they are grown.  i just can't help to think since I was 14 and used tampons and never had a problem  but have young woman on this thread experiencing it and are in the generation to start using products made of GMO'd stuff is why young girls are dealing with this And woman my age are now experiencing this.  You have to remember, doctors have NO CLUE to the side effects of The use of GMO'd stuff like this and especially since it was approved by the FDA and USDA to do it because when they went to medical school, the effects of using GMO'd stuff was non existent.  Again, this is my theory.

Hi guys Before you menstruate you retain an inordinate amount of water. This is just the fluid being released. It's totally normal. Most don't experience this until they are older. This is based on the fact that a 12 year old wouldn't hold nearly as much fluid as say a 28 year old. Hope this helps. Nurse for 8 years.

I have the same problem and I'm only on my 3rd period... As a 12 year old I'm very confused.

Hi, I have the same problem and googled the heck out of it. The best solution I found was a Dr online saying it's common to have this if your period is clotted and heavy so the blood has coagulated forming it to clot leaving extra clear liquid behind. If this is the case with you guys, it's more important to have a think if your period is clotted too often. A few a period is okay but not all the time, every time. Hope this helps. I think this is the best answer, particularly seeing GP's can't even answer!

I have this happen occasionally. I was placed on Progesterone because of a hormonal imbalance and I have noticed that when I don't take my Progesterone, it comes back, and stops when I do (I don't have insurance right now so it's intermittent). But I will say it's one of three reasons I look forward to being able to take it. Otherwise, my period is crampier, much more clotting, and my breasts get painful lumps during my period that don't always go away, but all disappears when I take my progesterone. I still don't know what it is, the liquid that is, but it is exactly as you ladies describe. I am so happy to know it's not just me. So, at any rate, from my comments, and a few others, it is definitely related to hormones. The worst part about mine is that it too has the sort of ammonia like smell. And, second the wet panties that sometimes even a panty liner cannot hold.

I too have this happen to me. I have been trying to find something online and never can find out anything about it. It happens toward the end of my period and soaks the tampon very quickly. I'm only 13 so I don't believe it has anything to do with age, seeing as a very wide range of women have his happening to them.
