I've also been puzzled about this. I'm 46 years old and wonder if it's a peri menopausal thing. I've been having this heavy flow of clear liquid after two days of bleeding. Its very strange that there are no medical professionals that have replied to us or indeed seem to know what it is. I can fill a super plus tampon in an hour!!! I would rather be bleeding heavily at least I'd know what it is !!!

I am 46 and after 2 days of heavy bleeding
I experienced this same clear liquid discharge. I have never experienced this before. I am not on the pill, have intercourse regularly and use tampons every month. Very odd so many women experience this with no one in the medical field having figuring out the cause. My guess it is uterine cysts rupturing. Only an uneducated guess. Good to find so many other women experincing the same embarassing symptons.

I have had this same problem the past few periods (probably since February or so).  I thought it was my body readjusting after my miscarriage, but I'm beginning to think that it's been an awfully long time since that was last October.  Anyways, I get my normal period indicators (large pimple, constipation and then diarrhea, and some cramps with a bad headache).  The entire period is usually clear liquid with some blood in it (more clear than blood) that may or may not lead to  a more blood to clear liquid ratio.  The only reason I had to change my tampons (besides the normal time frame) is that a little blood clot passes that slips down the side and when I wipe makes it look like I have a full tampon already.  I have had pregnancy symptoms in between as well (first in Feb. and then in April, May, and June) such as sore breasts (although nowhere near what I had during that 1st pregnancy/miscarriage), lack of weight loss (even after hard workout sessions and clean eating), growing abdomen, and nausea.  I took a pregnancy test each time just thinking I was having weird spotting and it came back negative.  This month, however, I got a positive result, but now the soreness is fluxuating and barely noticeable (which i read usually happens towards the end of the 1st trimester or later in pregnancy).  Now it's got me worried that I may be a lot further along that the test at home indicates.  Unfortunately, I took the test the day before I left on a little vacation to "de-stress", so I will make an appointment once I return.  I am definitely asking my OBGYN about this weird stuff because it just seems too weird.  Hopefully he has some answers.  I just find it funny/weird that so many experience this weird liquid situation and there is no real answer.  Only places I find it mentioned are on these forums with others searching for an answer as well.

Hi Ladies,
I have had the same problem since October last year. During my period I have had a clear liquid fill my tampon. I have recently had an ultrasound on pelvis and kidneys and had swabs done. I have been told that I had traces of bacterial vaginosis which is an imbalance of bacteria, with no known cause. It can be cured with a cream or antibiotics. I'm hoping my next period doesn't contain clear liquid due to this being the solution! Anyhow just thought this may help...
Cheers

I'm18 and started having this problem today. I was in class and it felt like I was leaking even though I had a tampon in. When class was over I rushed to my room and noticed there was no blood like I suspected. Just clear liquid. I took my tampon out and there was little blood on it. I am on birth control and haven't had sex in a couple weeks. My period came early (probably because I missed two days in a row so I had to start a new pack of the pill) and it's been going on for 6 days so far. I have no idea what it is and clearly neither does anyone else. It's frustrating how doctors don't know what it is or people are saying it's normal.

Hello, I have had the same problem. My last 3 cycles have been all clear liquid, hardly any blood. Are you pregnant? Was it a false Positive? Does your doc have any information? I have no health insurance and am not working right now, would love to hear if your doc had any ideas as to what it was, if not pregnancy, and if you are pregnant, congrats!!, but why is this happening? Thanks!!

I've been having the same problem for almost a year...even had a Dilation and curettage - D&C procedure, as in addition to the clear fluid, my periods seem to last 15-17 days.  It starts with a normal period for 4-5 days, then I have a medium flow for 2-3 days, then the rest of the period I have light brown mucus with heavy flow of the clear fluid...and it does have an acidic smell to it...and the texture is very watery.  I am still scheduled to see my doc next month since the surgery and all other tests have not lead to anything.  I don't even know what this condition is called.  I am considering visiting another OBGYN to get some answers.

Any advice???

It's not just 'normal' 'uterus cleansing itself'.

I'm 35 years old, I've been having periods since I was TEN, and it just started this year.
If it were 'normal and usual', I think I'd have experienced it at some other point in the last TWENTY FIVE YEARS.

I am so sick of people saying 'oh, that's just normal' because they have no idea what causes something. It's not NORMAL when I've had this body thirty five years, and had periods in this body for twenty five years, and this is a NEW thing. What, my uterus didn't 'cleanse itself' for the last twenty five years? give me a break.

I agree. but have you found an explanation?

I'm 56 and have been post meno for over a year. Yesterday while teaching a fitness class, I had this "gush" feeling. No blood, just liquid. Last night I woke up to go to the bathroom as usual and I was wet, twice. Not peeing, because I never have a problem with this. Today I'm going to teach with a pad....as gross as it sounds I seem to be "wet" down there ugh.
