Me too! Finding this thread has been such a relief!! For me I didn't have what I would describe as 'coffee grounds' since it was more smushy than that, but I definitely had this disturbingly large membrane type thing come out covered in brown goo. I though my whole cervix had sloughed off or something :( Definitely very scary. For those of you who don't want to go back through all the 6 pages of past posts, I will summarize as follows: This seems to be very common and only one person has said their doctor even warned them about it! The best explanation offered was as follows (this is from the Reiter, Hill, Johnson & Nevin OB/GYN practice):

AFTER THE COLPOSCOPY

You may experience vaginal bleeding after the colposcopy, especially if the provider performs

biopsies. If the liquid bandage solution is used, you may experience brown-yellow discharge

that may resemble gauze, tissue, or coffee grounds. It is important to note that this type of

discharge is normal and nothing is left in the vagina. The discharge will resolve in a few days.

Any cramping experienced during the colposcopy will resolve in a couple of minutes. Most

women can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure.

My guess is that my physician used this "liquid bandage" and what I am seeing was the dried membrane of the bandage along with some old, smushy, brown blood clots.

Thank you everyone for sharing this information.  I had a colposcopy and biopsy almost 3 days ago, and the doctor told me some discharge/bleeding will be normal. I was happy that the day of the procedure, and the second day, I barely had any discharge. I took it as a good sign.  But suddenly on the third day a mass of disgusting light brown dead tissue comes out of me. I almost had a heart attack and could hardly breathe. Now that I see others have experienced it, I'm am both relieved, and ever more distrusting of modern medicine...I'm still waiting for the results from my biopsy; hoping it is not cancer...but feel slightly better after finding these forums.

Ewwww! Thank God for this post. After having a colposcopy 3 days ago, I experienced that disgusting tissue-like chicken skin-ish discharge. I thought my cervix fell out!!! Or my ovary or something! I was in tears until I read this post. Thanks for sharing this info!! My doc did use some sort of brown liquid bandage thing. He said I might see some brown discharge, but not this. Whew!!

I am in Southern California and this happened to me as well.  I thought I was going to die from the burning after the procedure. I went back to my own doctor the next day but there was nothing she could do. A few days later I went back to one of those emergency type drop in clinics because it was easier to get in and less crowded. That doctor actually was the one who had to pull out that mass of dead skin (the brown brick). I thought he was going to pass out bless his heart. He had never seen anything like that. I think he is probably still grossed out to this day.

Now whenever a dctor asks me if I am allergic to something I always say Monsel's Solution.

I was about to call the telehealth nurse hotline before I read this forum! Thank GOODNESS this is normal. I had a colposcopy/biopsy 3 days ago and my gynecologist only told me to expect some bleeding for a few days (which didn't really happen. Some of the gunk they use to stop the bleeding came out for the first few hours but that was it). I felt something at the entrance so I went to pee and I was HORRIFIED to find it on my toilet paper! It was about 1 inch wide and 2 inches long and looked like black coffee stuff surrounded by a layer of skin. WTF. Then some grainy black stuff came out. How long does it take for all this stuff to come out??

Why don't they warn us about this?!

Same thing exactly as all these posts: a "skin-like sack" that freaked my world out, four days post-colpo; saw your posts, was able to breathe. Thank you all! Nurse returned my call: this is super common, it's the Monsel's solution they use to clot the bleeding from the biopsies and when that dries/clots up and isn't needed anymore, it passes. So I'm not dying nor did I shed a vital organ. The reason I don't remember this from the last colpo is b/c with each procedure, the body can bleed more or less, influencing how much of the solution they'd need to use; so my biopsy bled more this time, and more stuff was needed, therefore.... You get the idea. Definitely wish I'd been warned, but not mad; just happy it's nothing serious!

Thank you to all these posts! 3 days post my first colpo and a strange looking palm sized brown thing came out. Felt it running on the treadmill and was freaked out what was happening inside me. It was too late to call the doctor so good to hear that this thicker discharge is common, was not expecting this 3 days out!

LADIES! I hope I'm really not the first person who is writing what that weird tissue is: It's the bandaid material the doctor swabs on our cervix to to stop the bleeding. It's not our actual tissue at all. It does its job of stopping the bleeding and then falls off. I can't believe doctors don't tell people this when they do the procedure. The reason i found this forum is because I had a second coloscopy (last one was 5 years ago) and I am NOT experiencing the drop in "bandaid" and it's freaking me out. It's been 5 days and last time it happened after two days. I go back in on Monday so she will swab it all off then. I just wonder why it isn't shedding on its own and was looking for answers. Anyway, totally normal to have the gross gunk after this procedure. It's like a "glue" that helps the cervix heal fast. xo

Wow....I know I am late to the conversation but boy am I thankful so many people have experienced this. I actually lost my stomach today it was such a gross experience for me. I am really wondering why doctors don't tell you about this.

I had a colposcopy/biopsy three days ago. When the procedure was done, my gyno told me that she was going to smear a mustard colored liquid bandaid on my cervix to help it heal. When I got home and wanted to shower, i noticed a mustard colored stain on my underwear and knew it was the medicine. Later that night I wiped after using the bathroom and saw that yellow/orange tissue like film on the toilet paper. It wasn't much but I just assumed it was the medicine. Tonight, just as I was about to get out of the bath tub, I went to rinse myself and noticed something really odd sticking out of me. I pulled on it and it was a huge piece of that tissue like substance, with what looked like brownish period blood under it. (I had just ended my period and was spotting at the time of the procedure). And then another huge piece came out after it. I googled it to make sure that was normal, and came here. So, I feel better, especially because it is the 3 day mark. But hopefully someone will come across this and it will ease their nerves as I'm sure it's just the medicine they put on your cervix to heal it!!

Same exact thing. Thanks, ladies. Had procedure 4 days ago, really no bleeding or cramping, then suddenly today what felt like a tampon coming out of me. Then I thought it was gauze or something, but the "coffee grounds" we're enclosed so I knew it had to be tissue. So gross! And so scary! Why did they not warn ANY of us? Incredible. But so relieved I don't have to go to the ER.

I had the similar skin discharge...super gross.

I'm sure it's normal but I am annoyed that my doctor just said "you'll have some brown discharge, that's just the solution I put on it.  Just wear a pad" instead of "you may start molting from your vagina....totally fine."

Back in 1998, I had a reaction to the Monsels solution. It was terrifying, my insides swelled up like marbles outside of my lips! It was an awful experience. I had a friend who was a nurse and she came over to look after I called her... she took me to the nearest clinic. Back then, after flushing out my "system", they gave me a cream to insert and see my normal doc on Monday- which it was then, Sat. I called- they had me come right in. I saw the doc. who told me from now on, I should tell people I have an "internal latex allergy". Interesting. In the meantime, I lost so many layers of skin that my vagina started to heal together, which resulted in the most uncomfortable and awkward "personal physical therapy" (I guess you could say) to keep it from healing together. That's they way they did it back then. I thought I had a ruined sex life. Eventually, it got better, needless to say. Ironically, I still tell people I have an internal latex allergy... but wonder.... is that incredibly off base? and would todays technology tell me more of "what" I am really allergic to?  Thanks for all your posts. It helps to see other women with a similar reaction... not that I would EVER wish that sort of thing on anyone
