I have the same problem too. I'm a teenager and my stomach makes these noises any time it wants. When I go to sleep, when I wake up,
before I eat, after I eat,...
And I'm avoiding public places. Usually when my stomach does this I just simply FREAK out ! Because I have a social fobia and depression. And I'm having a hard time going back to school. It's RUNNING my life. And there is a waiting list for to get in the hospital. I'm just going CRAZY.

I cannot even express how happy I am to find that I am not the only one with this problem! Nobody truly understands how embarrassing it is or how it really does run your life.
I'm 18 years old and I've had this problem for about a year now. My stomach makes noise at pretty much any time of the day or night. I went to the doctor and since they seemed pretty much stumped, they said I had IBS so I've been taking lots of different things for that, many of which didn't work. I take Miralax every night but I think I might stop because I really don't see much of an improvement.
My main problem is that I'm not one of those people that can have their stomach make an embarrassing noise and not really care about it...for some reason, I care a LOT and so therefore, I have to take all my college classes online and the one that wasn't online I eventually just stopped going because I got so nervous that I'd actually be sitting in class shaking. And I'm very nervous to go places with my friends if I think I might be in a quiet situation or something like that.
I know that there's a lot of things that I do to make it worse, like drinking alcohol and eating bad foods, and I'm trying to stop both. But I feel like even when I do eat right, it doesn't help. I have a lot of things that I need to try and this board has helped a lot with ideas, so thanks everyone. I'm just really glad that I can talk with people who finally understand my situation!

Nicole, have you eaten a lot of grains or drank a lot of milk throughout your life? I've pretty much eaten cereal for breakfast my entire life. Sometimes I would have cereal 3 times a day because I was too lazy to cook anything. I would always pick the healthy cereal though and if I had a sandwich I'd make sure it was on whole grain bread. Maybe consuming too much dairy or grains has something to do with it. I also have a sweet tooth and would eat a lot of sugar. I'd be interested to know what you've mainly eaten throughout your life. Maybe we can find something we have in common and fix it.
I have ad this problem for a year now and have been experimenting with different foods. I gave up dairy and bread and sugar for a few days which drove me nuts cuz i love all three and the problem almost completely stopped. I am going to try to narrow it down to one though, I think it might be bread. on the days where i had little to no problem was when i ate fresh veggies, protein like steak, turkey and drank plenty of water with a probiotic pill at every meal. I ate a bunch of bread with diner tonight as well as a handful of peanut butter cups, that was six hours ago....my lower intestine on the left side of my body is making nasty noises and I am whiling to bet its from the bread or sugar I ate today.
I gave up dairy, bread, and sugar for almost a month. During that time I cooked myself salmon, chicken, beans, veggies, and ate a lot of fruit. I was also taking multi vitamins, minerals, and a pro biotic. I only noticed a slight difference while I was doing all that. I've since put bread and sugar back on the list and what's funny is my stomach has hardly made any sounds at all. My problem food might be dairy.
Of course, when I say sugar I don't mean candy bars and soda. I do like to eat Clif bars though and they have 20 grams.
I have suffered from this same problem ever since senior year. It got so bad in my freshmen year of college that I saw a GI doctor. He gave me a colonoscopy and found a huge polyp blocking my intestinal track. He had a special name for it too, a "Juvenile Polyp." These are none cancerous and are found in young adults (not sure how common they are). Of course it helped alot after being removed. He has also put me on an anti-spasmodic medicine that seems to help (I use these maybe once every few days, when needed). I also was on a supplemental juice called Zrii, that helped aswell.
I hope this helps someone. Getting a colonoscopy is easy, just request one from your doctor. Maybe just having one will allieviate some of your anxiety about your stomach. I know that I worry about it making noise, more than it actually does.

Wooow you dont know how glad I am of this blog, I thought I was the only one out there. This illness or whoever you want to call it, has cost me my career. I am so nervous to what is going to happen next. Please if someone has a solution to this problem let us know. It may sound like a stupid thing but it is something we cant control. I am so worried before taking a test, and when in the classroom I cant even concentrate, that I just put whatever for the answers, to get it done quickly. Pls someone out there help us fix this. Thank you.
I too have suffered from this since my early 20's ... precisely from 23 it was at its worst. I am 32 now and also avoid quiet situations like meetings, trainings, even movie theatres and friend's places where we would gather just to talk.
I have skipped classes in college, once even walked out of one exam half way through, walked out of classes and it has ruined my life ever since. In fact getting rid of these noises and fear that comes with it are my primary objectives as of now.
Over the years I have found some ways to deal with it. The thing is not entirely removed, mind you, since it's mainly in the mind.
1. Water therapy: Drink 1260 ml of water as soon as you get up in the morning. It helps in getting the colon clean. The cleaner the colon, better you'll feel until you get a signal from within that "I can see through today's social situations"
2. Excercize: Streching, bending backwards and sideways soon after you consume the water in the morning. It helps a great deal.
3. Further excercise: Like Yoga, just to feel good.
Of course when a quiet situation arrives you know what to do. The above three points are just the foundation. If I fail to do any one of them, I avoid going to work.

Eat a healthy, balanced diet. stay away from foods that are a problem for you and take a quality probiotic that is designed to survive stomach acids and make it to the small intestine (such as Pearls or Primal Defense) and this problem should go away. Take the probiotics indefinitely or the same problem might reoccur.
Has anyone here tried Erythromycin (sp) or Neostigmine to improve intestinal motility? That is if there was no mechanical obstruction found?
hi all... a lot of people including myself seem to be suffering from these symptoms... let us keep posting our experiences... what helped one might help another one...

one of the best things that you can do is to stay away from heavy carbs. pasta, bread, potatoes. these things seem to make my stomach worse. i started having this noisy problem in college. i also had the gaining weight problem in college. i went on a low carb diet and started noticing my stomach noises were better. DON'T EAT POPCORN at the movies. It really makes my stomach noisy. Maybe not even immediately, but very soon after!!! Drink a lot of water. This will not only help the noise, but will also make you feel better in general. sooooo...lay off the heavy carbs, don't eat popcorn, and drink a ton of water!!!!
