I started keeping a log of everything I ate, and when the noises started. I was real careful to eat individual foods and wait 2 hours in between, to narrow the results. I began to notice a pattern among sme foods.

1) I never had any noises following most fruits (apple, banana, grapes, blueberries, rasberries).
2) I never had any noises following Special K cereal (with strawberries or yogurt) and skim milk
3) I would have noises when I drank diet Mt Dew, ate popcorn, or candy. So, I began to focus on carbs.
4) I went on the Atkins Diet for 3 weeks (low carbs). I never had any noises at all. I am not on the diet any longer, I did lose some weight, but that was not the purpose.
5) I now grab an apple or banana and eat it immediately before a meeting when I will be next to others. I am finding that I now have peace of mind and no longer have the belly growls.

This might be just me, but I also have given up Diet Mt Dew. This was a killer to me, as I drank 8-10 a day and loved it. I had a headache for a couples of days on withdrawl, but I am finding that these drinks are one of the causes.

I will leave it up to smarter people to decide what is in my foods that cause it. At least I narrowed it down.

I too suffer from these terrible noises. It is like a severe punishment, totally ruins your life. My doctor gave me fibre drinks Konsyl-D, which has helped alot but I am still suffering. Basically, I suffer from 8:30=12pm and then again from 3pm-5pm. After I eat my lunch at 12pm I seem to be fine. I always have multigrain bread and cucumber and this works really well for me. I have had alot of antibiotics in my life and wonder if this could have caused this?

I have done alot of searching over the years for an answer to this problem. I started noticing that along with losing my good health, my stomach was always rumbling. I had to quit a great job making great money cause I couldnt deal with the annual day long study session and testing. I would panic and have major anxiety when I knew this day was approaching. I dealt with it for a few years until that last year I just couldnt anymore. So fast forward, to now I believe major alcohol consumption in my younger days is the reason for this and as a result, Candida set in. I have tried just about everything else that was posted. It has been by trial and error that I stumbled upon Milk Thistle. It is essential in aiding in digesting. A poor functioning liver cannot kick out the added enzymes that its supposed to, and Im taking Threelac, an anti-fungal- special probiotic. I just started taking it and my stomach is not bloated anymore. The Candida bacteria has an uncanny way of staying alive in the very acidic environment of the lower intestines, I believe, and that's why yogurt alone or probiotics will help but won't fix the problem, only a good bacteria that's strong enough can kill the Candida. Read up on both of these, it may help alot of readers. As far as diet goes, I don't want to be redundant but dairy, sugar free colas, colas in general, sugar, carbs and fats seem to be the aggravating factor, and eating too heavy a meal always exacerbates the problem. From what Ive read antibiotics play a big part in creating an imbalance in the digestive tract.
I hope this helps and as ridiculous as some people think this problem is, I wouldnt wish this on anybody.

Just an update, I'm doing a drastic diet that helped me in college and since I'm going back I'm starting it again. Basically I just eat four slices of bread in the morning before class and walk with gold fish crackers if i get hungry during the rest of the day. The key is when you get home and you're really hungry from going the day on bread you just have to suck it up and not eat anything the rest of the day. Then repeat this diet until weekends where you finally eat meat. I'm hoping after 6 years of this in graduation, I can finally eat whatever I want since I'll be working in a hospital. I do take supplements to compensate for the lack of nutrition.

I think like 4 days of eating just 4 slices of bread right before class mon-thursday then thursday afternoon to saturday night of eating meats since i dont have class would solve this problem. I take supplements on the days i just eat bread. and eating watever u want on long breaks from school.

Hey, i'm an 18 yr old A-level student with this tummy issue. I've had the noises for 9 months and it's really scary to read about people who have had it for years and years, i really feel sorry for you all. It's the most c**p thing ever and when you tell people they don't get it. I told one of my friends at school and they never speak to me about it even if they are sitting next to me and hear it, annoying! Either that or they think they know all the answers, like, 'oh it's only that your hungry'; wrong.

I started getting them during my AS exams and i could barely eat anything before them. After the holidays i was devastated when my fear and noises kept going, it was like the end of my life because i genuinely used to love school and i'd been having a great year and made loads of new friends. I have hardly any focus in lessons now depending on the subject. I never have any trouble in my art lessons as they are so relaxed and you can stand up and move around as you like. I also used to be on the school council but dropped out as i couldn't stand the meetings. That is annoying because it would have been really good to put on my ucas form. Now i've got my A2 exams coming up i'm really hoping i get the grades for uni but i don't learn as much as i did and i'm even worried about going to uni with a tummy like this.

I have a strict routine of musli with juice and yoghurt in the morning and then only fruit and nuts or a cereal bar at lunch......... and loads of water. Most days i get really hungry and therefore have even less focus in lessons. I have visibly lost weight and get very tired. I have tried acupuncture and the bowen technique and neither of them worked although i'm not really sure the people doing it understood the problem. Now i am on homeopathic remedies and go to see someone about once or twice a month. I think it is helping, they have tried lots of different pills, but it is almost like the placebo effect really as it gives me more confidence if i take pills.

I noticed someone on here talking about their irregular heart beat relating to their tummy noises. I also have that... well arrhythmia. Anyone else got this too???? I am also slightly dairy intolerant as some people on here are, but apparently humans aren't meant to drink milk after some young age anyway, as we are not designed to.

Fortunately i only have half a year left of school and then i'm taking a gap year but i really don't want to finish school like this, as i really love it.

There are so many people with this issue that i really think there should be more research or something. It is so debilitating and depressing!!! Has anyone actually properly recovered from this as that would be a really uplifting story for us all???

Good luck everyone and keep talking about it
We will win in the end!!!!!!

I've posted here before... i remember it staring slowly when i was 17 and i would lie in bed and notice my stomach rotating around inside. The next year was when it got really bad.. i noticed it specifically after i drank some coke. That year i drank a lot of coke, had a lot of sugary foods. I was also having long hours of hunger and stress from uni plus lack of exercise.

I have tried charcoal pills i found in the supermarket and they do not tend to work much. You have to take around 6 pills at once which i think is excessive but i think they can help if you take them at the right timing for it to work.
Has anyone else here drank a lot of soft drinks or high sugar foods? I believe this may be one of the causes. Also once after i ate some pasta my stomach bloated really badly and i had gas non-stop or at least an hour. I've had other pasta before but this was the processed ones, so i have avoided those now.

I think eating something fibre like bread before a quiet situation will help. I remember there was a time i tried eating carefully, which meant lesser, i wouldnt let myself go to bed when im hungry, i think being really careful can help a bit but nothing can ever stop it completely, its unpredictable.

As someone said, i believe its the fear and anxiey that can trigger it also. Even when it doesnt happen you spend the whole time worrying about it. It has ruined my life but i'm determined to continue living it in a way where this problem wont worry me too much. I know there will still be 'quiet situations', i need to just make it through those and it will be ok.

This is a horrible problem, i wouldnt even wish this on someone i really hated. This is worst than being dead sometimes. Lets keep sharing and hoping someone will find this post and be able to help us finally.

Hi everyone. Just a little update from my before post. I had started drinking metamucil, a fibre supplement drink and i have found it to improve my stomach a lot. Either that or it has just ben good the past few days. I havent been in any stressful/quiet situations so i can't 100% say, but it has definately made a small change so far. I hope this will be a good cure for what problem i have. I am going to continue drinking it everyday and hopefully this will let me have a brand new start to a better life.
I have also tried cutting out sugar. I've still had some sugary foods here and there but a max of one sugar item a day. I think this might also help a bit.
Has anyone else found anything that has help significantly? I know we all have a problem that varies so i erge you all to keep trying to find things so we can help each other :)

Hi Guys,
I am bothered the same problem from time to time. But once I've noticed that having several glasses of still water in the morning(before breakfast) helps significantly reduce the noises in belly. Doctors always say that we have to drink before eating.

All too familiar! Agree with cutting out caffiene, alcohol, gluten, lactose, sugar, fat, carbohydrate, all processed food, tomatoes, vinegar, nuts, chocolate, fizzy drinks. Its just too difficult for me. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis following giving up smoking and the noises and flare-up of colitis are related. I can't take the usual medication becaused of side-effects. I feel sure that the colitis is caused by some food intolerance but the docs disagree and won't do tests. A few things help: the best for me is to have a plain, dry-fried omelette which is quite filling and then just drink water for the rest of the day. Thereafter start the day with a couple of apples. 2 teaspoons of bicarb of soda in a glass of water seem to soothe. Lots of green steamed veggies are good. Have sweet potatoes not ordinary ones. Steamed salmon is ok - red meat is out. I find its easier when I'm at home at weekends and in the evening but I think thats because of being more active - I don't think its stress-related. However, I do end up starving then binge on all the wrong stuff. This is a miserable condition and its a killer for work life and relationships. I just want that simple miracle cure like everyone else. Good luck everyone

I know how you feel that always happens to me in school.
Just try not thinking about it, it could be nervs.
I told my doctor about it they told me to take Prilosec, just one pill a day, if its bad i think you should take two.
And drink water, thats what i do it helps me. I know Prilosec is for Heart burn but for some reason it helps.
Keep beano in your bag incase as well to.

A little update. I have continued eating with drinking metamucil everyday and it seems to have only lasted a few days.

Around 2 days before i started metamucil i had been eating plain and not eating anything with sugar.

I have drank it everyday with normal eating and it seems to have not helped. My stomach has been bad for over a week now. Though it does get worst during menstruation.

Tomorrow i am going to start avoiding sugar again. Cold foods seem to be not so good for me, i always have discomfort after i've eaten cold foods. I've also taken ethical nutrients inner health plus pills for a bit over a year. This does not help the problem but it probably aids it a little. Some days i skip it since it causes weird pains. I don't eat a lot somedays so maybe taking the pill is a bit too much for my stomach to handle.

I'm thinking of getting some metamucil fibre caps and see how they work for me.

Has anyone find something that seems to help significantly? Any routines that helped? I'm really wanting something that can help so i can worry less about it and go on with my life. Has anyone taken anti-anxiety pills to lessen the stress and has it helped? I'm really considering trying to get some as the stress gets really annoying.

Hi everyone! I'm kind of glad I'm not the only one with this annoying thing.... is frustrating when the doctors say that is "normal" and that I should not pay attention to them %-)

For the past year I've tried boiling in water star aniseed and drink it before leaving in the morning or anytime I need it, it has worked really well for me. Besides that I've identified some food that causes the noises, and trying as much as I can to stay calm :-)

For me this works almost a 100% of the time, I hope it's useful for you too!
