just like you i have these simular pains, also following a bm. my stools are soft. the pains are discribed as like being impaled on a stake i cannot sit must go to bed. this began about 6 months following surgery to reattach my bowel.(6 months before that had colon resection with a colostomy) examined by gastro they put me on cardiazem which works on smooth muscles it helps but occ have what is called break thru pain. which i can handle. i must check my bld pressure so it doesnt go to low. a colonoscopy is scheduled will let you know wat they find then.
I have same symptoms for last 3 months of having one hour delayed pain after BM that last 5-6 hours.
I first had MRI and CT scan with contrast that indicate no related issues. Second, I had colonoscopy which indicated " few superficial ulceration" of traverse and descending colon but biopsies indicated unspecific inflammation. Then, 5 weeks ago, I had the painful hemorrhoid acteme to remove external and internal hemorrhoids that is now 90% healed but the pain level after BM remain but reduced by ~ 40%.
My GI Dr. thinks the pain is maybe associated with crohn disease and he ordered me blood and stool tests in addition to another MRI to check on the circular muscle around the anal ring. He wants to rollout "Peroneal Nerve Compression'.
I am 55 yrs. young and have read many of the posts of similar symptoms and feel sad there is no effective or common relief yet except the temporary worm to hot sitz baths I do everyday.
I need a doctor! Not a sales person!
I am ready to pay more than what they are trying to make!
Details:
1- Doctors put their finger in but don't see anything within first 1 inch distance.
They don't see the fissure or hemorrhoid. They just guess!
The problem is, my problem is within 1 inch area in anus!
Doctor don't say that they can't see anything!
If you cross examine the doctors you will find out this fact.
Ask one doctor where the fissure or hemorrhoid is exactly and then go and ask to the other doctor. You will see how creative they are!
2- Doctors dont see hemorrhoids because it disappears when I am at the doctor. I recommended to a doctor
that I should just walkin when I have the pain. She did not aggree. Then, I draw on a paper
what I feel with my fingers. The spots that get larger. Doctor said that she does not see such things.
3- First thing come in the doctor's mind is: What can I sell here? (I am not saying that doctors are bad.) Mostly they will not push you to surgery but they are very skilled sales people.
After I decided to have surgery, doctor examined me and asked for my permission to cut the hemorrhoid that she said she does not see.
I said: "You said that you dont see the hemerroid." She said "Now I saw it today."
Do you believe her or not?
4- Somehow they cannot diagnose properly. Maybe they don't have the right tools. Maybe they don't know how to diagnose. The problem is, if they diagnose or cure properly I am ready to pay more than what they are trying to sell me.
Recently: I had a few no-pain weeks.
Then I started to get pain in anus again after bowel movements.
My pain after bowel movements go away after I sleep over!
If I cannot control it, it will get worse and I will not be able to get rid of it with sleeping over. That's what I guess.
How to control it:
As mentioned above by others:
1- Softeners:
a- Water
b- I am taking magnesium vitamin daily for about 3 years.
2- Soups, cooked vegetables: Cabbage, leak, etc.
3- Relax before bowel movement. Breath. Take your time. Don't push.
4- Warm bath.
5- Anti spasm to relax muscles in anus. I am not sure about those creams. One doctor told me that creams for hemorrhoids are bad for cuts and fissures!
6- Surgery to relax the spasm and enlarge the anus.
"Pain in anus after the bowel movement" is related to 1 inch area in the anus.
The cause of this pain cannot be related to anything deeper than 2 inches. I guess.
I visited my Dr./Surgeon a week ago and he checked me again with his finger and excluded Anal Fissure, although I feel my symptoms are close to that of Anal Fissure. But may be he can not see it? He thinks it psychological!
I want to try Nitroglycerine Ointment 2% to see if pain try dissipate.
Did you find out if is from endometriosis?
I was told the same and given the option to get some injections for 6 months, but the pain went away slowly and I have not done the injections.
Couple of months later, the pain is back.
What did the doctors tell you?
Can you let me know if you found any treatment for endometriosis that worked?
