Hi,

I had the surgery done about 6 years ago. I suffered from sinusitis and had regular infections combined with allergies to everything. I tried allergy shots, nasal spray, allergy pills and resorted to surgery. The pain from the surgery wasn't too bad but I was in major discomfort and hated every minute of the recovery. My nose was packed and was supposed to be for a min of 24 hours. I called my dr. the next morning and told him to remove the packing immediately - I couldn't stand it. I had elbow surgery the same year to remove bone chips in my elbow and this was much A LOT more painful. However, I'd have 3 more elbow surgerys, have a dozen more babies without an epidural (experienced that a year ago) before I'd undergo another surgery to correct my re-deviated septum. That's right, mine returned to the pre-op position - lucky me.

Hello, I happen to have the surgery just yesterday (about 12 hours ago). The surgery went fine, my doctor was very welcoming and kept a positive humorous attitude throughout the whole process. On a scale of 1-10 Id say my pain is at about a 3. I can definitely feel that I can breath better, I never knew the nose could take in so much air. My septum was curved like a C, very deviated so I felt a difference right away. Anyway, you may get nervous before the surgery, but don't worry about it. Everything goes fine. I wish I got this done earlier to be honest.

Hi Thomas, I just red your post and would like you to take the time to

tell me if after all this time after surgery everything is ok and you still are able to breath well with no complications.

I am thinking on doing this deviated septum procedure because I can't breath through my right nostril and I'm scare to death. If you don't mind can I have your surgeon name and location.

Thanks, Tony

I am severely claustraphobic and the thought of not being able to breathe out of my nose freaks me out..

i had my septum fixed, my septum veered off way to the left. i know by now you probably had it corrected by now, but maybe if you didnt, you may wanna be as careful as you possibly can. do not let your blood pressure get really high after the stents come out...thankfully i was in the hospital already but for the past few days ive been getting really bad nosebleeds, so just be aware, things can happen. you may have to get it packed, which ive had to get it packed twice, and the second time they packed it, i had to be put under. now i have to wait for two more days before i can get the packing removed. just be careful

I just had mine done a week ago tomorrow and i definatly was not as bad as I thought , I  will say I just feel weak and tired still which may be normal but its just freaking me out a little bit.  At this point i can breath much easier out of my nose and expect it to get better after the sweeling goes dow.  Ask lots of questions bfore and after and do what the doctors say..  I hope you all feel better

Hey all, just so you know, the people who had theirs done a decade ago are not BS. It used to be bad. I had a a crappy one done 15 years ago and it was painful and all that. I'm about to get one Thursday and the docotr explained how far technology has come. He said it used to be very painful with a long recovery, but now people often only use tylenol for a few days because the pain is so minimal:)

Im having my deviated septum fixed.  my doctor said  he would lift the skin up, shave the cartilidge and replace the skin.  NO BREAKING.  shouldn't be too bad.  I can't breathe through  my nose and this should help.

I had surgery 7 days ago and I still can't breath on the right side of my nose. I don't want to scare you, but I have been experiencing panic attacks since the surgery. I could breath better before the surgery. I keep calling the doctor and I am being told it takes time to heal.

I had the surgery 5 days ago and the hardest part for me was the pressure the packing caused. He put them in after surgery and had them removed the next day in his office. The 24 hrs with the packing in was bad, not hurting but just pressure. I felt like I had two hotdogs stuffed in my nose and there was absolutely no breathing through the nose. He told me to sleep as upright a possible so I took pain medicine just so I could sleep. When I had them removed it felt like sobering was being pulled from your brain through your nose. It was not painful at all it just felt weird. They looked like tampons! Once the packing was removed I felt instant relief of nasal pressure. I can only breath through my noise slightly. It feel congested but I knowalot of that is selling and the splints.

I have the splints removed Friday and I'm looking forward to trying out my new septum. Overall not a painful recovery but the packing makes you uncomfortable until they are removed.

i just had the surgery again on tuesday sept 11 and it went good. the packing stayed in for two days and it was uncomfortable but no pain when they removed packing today . my sinuses are clearer than they have ever been and the splints are in for one more week. i will update in a week. i have had the surgery done two times before , some twenty and twenty two years ago with different procedure were a cloth packing was left in for a day and removed. six or seven feet in each nostril. when it was removed it was like your brains were being pulled out and this time around i was not looking forward to it. different surgeon with new techniques and supplies. he used a moist non-clotting packing and it came out easy.the splints come out in a week and i will update but what a relief to breathe thru my nose again.
