I would say that anyone who is still growing (maturing, going through puberty, and gaining inches in height) should be careful! Men continue to grow taller through age 21. I believe heavy weight training could ultimately influence your final height. This is coming from someone who is 6'5"=)

Quite the opposite is true. It may actually stimulate production of human growth hormone. Smoking can stunt your growth, and poor nutrition can, too.Scientific studies have shown that weight training has no negative effects on growth but in fact positive effects.
Weight training will help your muscles and bones get stronger and actually prevent injuries in the future. It wont stunt your growth but make sure you use proper form to help build those muscles and get in shape!

There's also a myth that says growing a six pack could stunt your growth, trust me, if you dont do anything stupid, thatt kind of stuff wont happen! I have a six pack, and I'm like taller than most of my friends!

P.S you may stunt your growth by working out too hard, because working out too hard and making too much muscle will tighten ur skin, n u mite nite grow as u were supposed to. i actually have a friend , he is 19, his dad is tall, but hes like 4 inches shorter than him because when he was 14 he worked out very hard n made his skin too tight to grow. so if ur 13 or 14 u mite experience some extra fat around ur belly n other parts of body, but dnt try too hard to get rid of them becuz u r gona have a growth spurt. hope this info helped

This sounds good, however, muscles have give to them. For instance, it is very easy to stretch them. Having larger muscles does not equal constant pulling or resistance to slow slow slow bone growth. 1/3 of growth occurs when were sleeping and are body is at complete rest. Some times heavy kids grow up to be tall with well proportioned legs which had constant extra weight while growing.

Hi,

I am fourteen years old, and i have just started weightlifting. I am around 6ft. tall and weigh 120lbs. I am a long distance swimmer, and was tired of getting beat of the walls and not being able to power through my races like the others. I don't lifting anything over 40lbs with my arms, and 130 with my legs. I am supposed to be around 6ft. 8 inches. Do you think this will stunt my growth because my instructor says that it will strengthen my bones and make me grow even more. My instructor is a former swimmer.

im 16 and around 5.7, any weights under 5 kilos are grand, if used correctly. Do 50 pushups, 50 situps, 50 bicep curls with anything up to 5 kilo and lunges and squats if u want. Another way to help is using a rowing machine as it builds you up. Goin on your tippy toes on crosstrainers build the back of your legs up.
None of these will effect your growth and in a few months you will see a big difference. To help your growth one regular vitiman tablet could do alot of good.
One last thing, stretch it helps your bones go back to normal after a workout, good luck kid

Im between 6 and 6'1 i want to make it to 6'2 or 6'3 im 18 im about to start weight lifting at the gym to get buffed not monster buffed or proff buffed but thin buffed big chest and abbs and big arms not the hulk. Ima get a trainer but before i do i want to know if weight lifting for bulking up will screw up my chances for making it to 6'2 or 6'3 and im a slow grower havnt matured yet i weigh like 170 to 180 and a size 13 shoe even though im only 6 feet. All my relatives well the guys are over 6'1 some to 6'3 and the women in my family are 5'8 to 5'10 except my mom who was between 5'6 and 5'7 and a half now she looks 5'5. But seriously will getting buffed up with weights screw my chances of gaining a few more inches.............. thanks helpful comments really mean a big deal to this decision....

I dont know if you'll ever read this. But i am 14 years of age, I am about 5'8" and I actually have a pretty descent build. I am going into high school next year i want to join football and i am doing boxing (shadow) but with 6 pound weight and after shadow boxing for a while its hard. Growing up my mom said lifting weights can stunt your growth. But i just want to get a littkle bigger. I weigh approximately 140 pounds. And im kinda skinny. But after about a week of doing this, i want to advance to 15 pound weight (7.5 on each side). So should i stick with the 6 pound (3 pound on each side) or advance to the the 15 lb. Thnx. Just read this if you can it would be a lot of help. :)

Hi, I'm 15 years old 5 foot 2 and just starting to do weights, I only do about 5 to 6 KG and 10 - 15 reps 4 - 5 sets, once a day sometimes twice. will this stop me growing or not?? My mum and dad are only 5 foot 9/10 as well. All my friends say it will are they true, will I stop or will it slow down my growth ???
