After a tonsillectomy, in general, foods should be easy to chew and easy to swallow. Your surgeon will give you more specific instructions after surgery which supersedes our advice. However, if you're looking to stock the fridge before the big day, here are some things you should know.
While ice cream is a great food post tonsillectomy, you should avoid dairy products if you are having nausea or vomiting (a side effect of anesthesia and narcotic pain medication). Instead, stick to clear liquids such as apple juice, soda such as Sprite, or soup broth.Avoid food and drinks high in citric acid such as tomato juice or lemonade as they can sting and cause pain.Cold food and fluids reduce swelling and pain.As long as you're not sick to your stomach, here are some good suggestions of things to eat and drink after your surgery:

not true you probably had a different type of tonsillectomy where they leave some of the tissue behind. It's less painful but can also put you are the risk of growing another pair of tonsils. how do I know this?
Thats insane advice. The last thing he should eat is toast. Scraping your throat with toast can lead to bleeding.
I just had a tonisilectomy and adenoidectomy six days ago. I have been unable to eat almost everything. I try broth, but even that hurts to swallow. Someone else posted that you feel worse on day 5, 6 and 7. All I can say about that is YES IT DOES!!! I used all my pain meds. Took the last one last night and if I had read this sooner, I would have saved some. Gonna try calling the Dr tomorrow to see if they will give me more, but I doubt it.
