I have had gallbladder pain for 25 years.........starting when I was pregnant.......then nothing for years til my second child.......then on and off for many years but I have also noticed a link between the attacks of pain and my periods.....can't find any research to indicate why this would be. In the past year my attacks have been very severe and my doctor said gallbladder removal is the only answer......but i like my body parts so I researched and found some wonderful cures/remedies........search olive oil and lemon flushes and you will read loads of peoples stories that had all kinds of stones and never had surgery thanks to this method.........Also chinese herbs are fantastic .....particularly Gold Coin Grass........combined with Chinese bitters, Coptis and curcuma........tastes like hell, best way is to put it in a shot glass and just knock it back.......but it REALLY WORKS.......amazing.
Keep your gallbladder.......do you know how much doctors make each year removing gallbladders ??? no wonder my surgeon told me 'western medicine has everything beat when it comes to gallbladder treatment'.........sorry but I wouldn't cut off my head and call that a cure for a headache.

I just had my gallbladder removed via emergency surgical removal. The funny thing is I never would have guessed this was my problem. Every time I had PMS I had the worst pain on my right side near my abdomen. I thought it was odd and figured I had a problem with my ovary or something. I've had this pain for over 5 years and in the last year it worsened. In the last few months I started vomiting uncontrollably here and there and I just figured I had the flu. In hindsight I now know it was my gallbladder and the incidents were connected because I'd eaten cheese or something fatty. Prior to the operation I thought I had the flu, but it got worse. I could not stop throwing up and went to the emergency room. The cat scan and ultrasound showed my gallbladder was full of stones, sludge, it was enlarged to twice the normal size, it was inflamed and infected. I have been healing and have had my period since. Since the gallbladder removal I have not had any pain or cramping at all with my period. The question I have now is even though a person has their gallbladder removed you can still form stones in your liver ducts but they can take up to seven years to form. Should I seek medical care for my hormone levels to prevent future formation of stones? What kind of doctor should I see? A gynecologist or a gastrointestinal specialist?

I had a feeling like a nerf football under my ribcage many years ago that prompted me to go to a dr and was told I likely had gallbladder diseaseéinflammation, however, they could not find any stones etc. They did ultrasound, ct scan and hiada scan. The way it was described to me is that sometimes the walls of the gallbladder get tougher and tougher until finally they can't move at all.. has anyone else heard of this? they said it was working at 11% or something. They wanted to take it out but I said no and the dr said, you will be back. This was likely 8 yrs or so ago, the last few days it has been spasming and hurting, feels like a charley horse almost. I really don`t want surgery, is there anything I can doÉ Is it really linked somehow to hormonesÉ I am trying to eat low-lower fat but it still seems to be pretty unhappy. I could understand that is dangerous if you have stones that can poke through, but I don`t have any. Please help, I don`t want to lose an organ if I don`t have too.

I'm so glad I found someone experiencing the same pain as me. I have been to the ER and they did ultra sounds x-rays and all kinds of test. My obgyn said I have endometriosis. Something was telling me this was not the problem. I would always get these horrible pains during my period and taking deep breaths or sneezing felt like a knife went through me. Now the pain comes right after my period for about 4 days. I'm definitely going to try to switch up my diet around this time and see if anything changes. I'm also going back the doctor to see if they can check my gall bladder. I always burp like a crazy person I wonder if this is why. Code:

i also have had some pretty bad pain under my right ribs about the 2nd day into my period that lasts thru the end. i have had ultrasound and cck hida today. the u/s was normal, but the hida was not. i have a very low ejection fraction, so that means my gb doesnt work. i dont have gall stones. i understand that it may be removed. i do not have many symptoms aside from my cycle. but i notice that red meat usually upsets my stomach, sometimes for days after i eat it. i have had this issue for about a year and just now looked into it, as i thought it was primarily endometriosis. which is possible, even still, but theres no way to know unless you go in there and look. now i cant say that any other foods bother me. i dont notice a change when i eat fatty or healthy. i lean towards healthy eating naturally, though.  well thats my little story. i hope it helps...may God bless you today.

I suffered from gallbladder attacks for about 8 months,  before surgery, trying to avoid surgery. I thought that I would be able to control the attacks by diet. I went on an extremely low fat diet, and ate very healthy. Nothing changed. In time I realized there was a direct link to the major attacks and my cycle. I would always have a dull pain, but when my cycle came, it took me out. My hida scan came back that the gallbladder only functioned at a 28%. My surgeon said there was a 70% chance I would end up in the ER for emergency surgery if I didn't get it out. So I took his advise. I advise you to think twice before surgery! It didn't do a bit of good for me. I have the same pain as I did when I had a gallbladder. It's classic gallbladder disease symptoms, right upper quadrant pain under the ribs, back pain, tender to touch, etc. Estrogen levels can be a trigger. I would talk to your Dr. and have some blood work done. If you can have the blood draw done at the time of your period when the "attack" is present you might have a more accurate reading.

Birth control pills will get rid of the pain.

Perhaps I should have been more thorough in my post. I also have the same pains. I have endometriosis. I do not have a right ovary, as it was removed. Every month, the day before my cycle starts, I get the same pains described in other post. Pain, ONLY in my right abdomen, beneath my ribs, which increases with breathing and radiates to my collar bone/neck/shoulder. Sometimes it's so bad i cannot move my arm or talk. The only medicine that has ever completely relieved the pain are birth control pills. Muscle relaxers, loratab, Tylenol did not work. Im allergic to NSAIDS, therefore I do not know if that works, as I've never taken it for this pain. Today I went to the gastroenterologist to get an ultrasound of my liver & gallbladder. I should receive the results in 2 days. If they do not find anything I will get an x-ray of my lung to look for "spontaneous pneumothorax" which is caused when endometriosis attaches to the lung and causes a partial lung collapse every month during the menstrual cycle and heals itself. It can be easily missed by a regular ER Physician or Family Practice Doctor especially if they aren't looking specifically for that, as it can be very small on the xray. Additionally, costcochondritis may also be a cause, which is an inflammation of the cartilage between the sternum & ribs. Either way, the only thing that has ever stopped the pain was taking birth control pills.

If any of you have a history of endometriosis, you may want to have a U/S & MRI of your liver..... Especially if you've already had your gallbladder removed or if the gallbladder appears normal. Although there has been less than 14 reported cases in the world of endometriosis implanting in & on the liver, it is possible. I have been diagnosed with it. The endometrioma ruptures & bleeds every month during menstrual cycle. Debilitating pain. I can't move, breathe or talk without sharp stabbing pain in my lower abdomen right beneath lower part of rib cage that causes pain to radiate to my shoulder. It could be costcochondritis, gallbladder or the hepatic endometriosis. I was initially Dx w/ costcochondritis which turned out to be wrong.

I have had gallbladder pain from stones for about 14 years didn't know till about 8 years ago. I decided to eat healthy and try and keep it. Just so happen to notice for the past couple years. I get an attack same time every month. I was thinking can it be related? So decided to Google it and here you all are. For me its exactly a week before my period every month clock work for 2 days. Haven't ran it by doctor yet cause I wanted to check the internet to see is it possible a link. The question is what to do about it. Can you lower your estrogen levels? I have an absolute fear of surgery.

Hey just a quick thanks for your post - I too get this pain 2ce a month, once before ovulation and once before my period. I have been through a million cleanses and diets trying to find the trigger but now I'm sure that it's cycle related and not really diet dependant. I'll take this info to my doctor to see what he thinks.

I thaught I was crazy- and had thaught about the link with hormone levels before and am relieved to find that even though all the tests and Dr visits didn't resolve anything this is all not in my mind!  My pains are every month and some months are worse than others- no matter what the diet of the week.  sorry others have pains but glad to see I am not alone

I had a severe (and my first) gall stone attack about 3 months ago. I had no idea what was going on at the time. It was day 1 of my second period after pregnancy and breast feeding. So initially thought I was having severe period pains, but I could stand up without passing out, and couldn't find any relief no matter what position I was in so my husband took me to the ER. I do have a small cluster of stones which I am having removed early next week. Since the initial attack I have had an IUD put in, and I have noticed that for a day at the very beginning of my cycles I have mild discomfort around the gall bladder area and feel quite tender and unwell. I'm looking forward to having mine out. With 2 children under 3 in my care I NEVER want to have another severe attack, and I certinally do not want to put my life at risk by holding onto organs that at any moment could turn septic or cause me ti become seriously ill.

I have suffered from gallbladder pain before period and during ovulation for 17 years and I am 34 years old. It was horrible the first few years and I had no clue what to do about it. I went to many doctors who’d just look at me like I was crazy and would tell me to not think about it because it’s all in my head. Very frustrating several years to say the least. The condition even affected my eye sight and my vision gets very blurry during this time. Anyway, I did a lot of my own research and tested many things. A few years ago, sort of by accident, I found out that100% pure apple juice (not from concentrate) is my “cure”. No, it does not really cure the problem, but it is amazing how quickly it decreases the pain and nausea/indigestion associated with the gallbladder pain. I also take milk thistle tincture when the pain is about to start. I hope this helps. Good luck to you all and best wishes.

well, i am not alone it seems, yes this has been happening to me for 4 ish years now.  I became very ill with digestive problems after coming off meds for anxiety in 2009 and lost 40 lbs and was in survival mode for a good year but now i've been gaining weight back and getting my life back but this darn tenderness (not as bad and spasmy as it used to be) is there nearly every month with ovulation and period, none of my friends have this....i have not found a western dr, naturopath, energy medicine practioner that has been able to explain/rid me of this yet.....there is an answer somewhere definitely related to hormones, would love to hear any stories of women that no longer feel this tenderness/episodes...although they probably aren't googling this if they are feeling better :)
