Yes finally someone understands! I dread my period. There's pain at the top of my abdomen, bloating, constipation and vomiting. I usually miss at least 2 days at work during my cycle, I just had an endoscopy and they found nothing! I'm at my wits end I wonder should I go get checked while I'm in pain so they can possibly see the problem

CT scaned. gall looked health. everything was ok. found cysts on 1 kidney but that shouldn't be causing me pain. This last attack was worst I have ever had. ended up few fays in hospital. discharged only to be back there. 2 days later. I have endodemtriosis and polycytic ovaries. on a fertility med atm trying to fall preg.

I have the exact same thing. They removed my gallbladder because they found stones but I still have the same pain every month right before my period. And I still haven't been able to find a doctor who will take this seriously. The pain is pretty intense but it usually only lasts a day or two until I get my period and then I'm fine. I'm trying to figure out if eating a certain way regularly helps with this but haven't so far.

I am so glad to have found this thread! I have been dealing with undiagnosed gallbladder issues coinciding with my cycle since at least 2006 when I spent nearly a week in the hospital. My amylase & lipase were off the chart, showing them that I was, in fact, in excruciating pain, and led them to believe I was have a pancreatic attack. I was NPO Sunday (I hadn't eaten all day before my midnight rendezvous.) through Thursday. I wasn't able to keep down anything solid due to the pain, anyways. I had an ultrasound, ct, hida scan, colonoscopy and was finally discharged with a diagnosis of "Fever from an unknown origin". They ruled out gallstones & pancreatitis, but by the fourth day, my pain had subsided and there were no leads so I guess they just shrugged it off.
After that, i friend gave me a tip that helped her when she had her GB attacks- 2 advil and "chug" some Maalox. I'm sure not the most Orthodox method, but it works.
In 2008 I had a laproscopic surgery to remove some endometriosis, and while there, he discovered I also had adhesions and cysts, when asked, it was still stated that it was unrelated to my GB cycle pains.
Throughout the last near-decade, I've used the Maalox/Advil cocktail anytime I've felt the initial cramp of GB spasm and been grateful that it works.
Fast forward to today: Over the past year my eating habits have changed and I've lost over 50 lbs... My GB issue happens so infrequently now, I'm guessing due to my eating habits and weight loss, that I really hadn't given it any thought, until last night. I ended up having to take a muscle relaxer just so that the pain would subside long enough for me to go to sleep. For me, it must have mostly to do with foods- I ate terribly yesterday. Fast food for lunch, and over ate supper too. But also, obviously, my cycle because it doesn't happen unless I'm about to start my flow. Going to keep following for any other info. Thanks to all who have posted!

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the exact same symptoms. They didn't see anything in the ultrasound. Have you found any cause or means to alleviate the pain? Any advice is appreciated!

Wow! It is great to find this thread. I have dealt with this for about 7 years. Started when I was pregnant with my daughter. I first thought it was more my back. I went to the dr and she said that it was just in my head. Then I started getting massage therapy. It definitely didn't help. I would feel really terrible for about three days afterwards. I then started going to the chiropractor, which did seem to help some. They say everything is connected to the spine through nerves. It just really got expensive. I was going to the chiropractor for a year. Now I haven't went for about six months. I went to the gynecologist because my periods were very long. hardly stopping at all. They found a cyst on my right ovary. I thought okay great. that must be my pain. I was put on birth control. Which took care of the cyst, but now my pain has gotten a lot worse. I read somewhere on the web that birth control can make gallbladder problems worse. and for me it really seems to be true. I went to my gp. she proscribed an anti inflammatory drug. which definitely does help with the pain, but it has some crazy side affects, like liver damage. So I really don't like taking it. I feel like I am really losing days of my life and I know I can be hard to live with sometimes. I will try out some of the remedies you all have tried. Thanks for posting. Hoping for the best.

I'm trying to find out more info about the link between gallbladder pain and menstruation.
My upper right abdominal pain starts the same day of my period and gets progressively worse over the following 2-3 days and usually lingers well past my period... anywhere from 3-5 days thereafter. It seems like 2 weeks out of the month are consumed with this horrible pain!
It has been going on for years, but only in the last year has the pain reached a point where it is effecting my life. I try to function like a normal person, but my runs are horrible, my energy is way down, I lost weight, and I feel depression.
Thus far I've had a pelvic and abdominal ultrasound and the only thing they found was a benign tumor on my left ovary. I'm going in for a mri of my abdomen/pelvis and getting a full blood test.
I read a lot about attacks, but what about pain that lasts for about 11/2 -2 weeks out of the month? The pain is a dull constant throbbing pain tender to the touch. I force myself to run, but it is usually a horrible run with the pain even more intense.... especially when running downhill.
I try to eat healthy, but even a basic light meal sometimes causes issues! Bloating, nausea, malaise, burping... to the point I don't even want to eat.
Does anyone else experience this!

Thanks for anything help!

When I induce retching, it helps ease my attacks as well. I don't recall having the pain prior to having my children, and have since had my gallbladder removed... the pain still occurs at random, but seems to be the most frequent the week before I get my period.
I've had an upper endoscopy, 2 contrast CTs, an MRCP, an assortment of blood tests, and ultrasounds... everything apparently appears "normal".
Seeing as I no longer have my gallbladder, what else could cause this crippling pain?

My gallbladder was removed as well, and yet the pain continues. It's the most frequent and sever about a week before my period. My gastero has had me try different diets, and undergo a number of labs and imaging all to no avail.
While I'm happy (for lack of a better word) to know I'm not the only one with this issue, I also feel terrible that others are experiencing this horrific pain.

This is real an we need real help. Since October of last year I have been coming into the emergency room right before or on the day of my period. At first they were not concerned with my gallbladder because "everybody has stones". They called it an intestinal event and sent me home. No one admits that there could be a connection and the plan was to have my Gallbladder taken out in the next three months. Now, while waiting for that I have been admitted to the hospital for severe pancreatitis. At first I thought maybe it was just the gallbladder because I was able to control last months pain with anti-inflammatories but now, after three days in the hospital my period has hit. I am discouraged beyond measure and need some answers. If there is a doctor anywhere that can help any one of us, please do!

Update to my earlier post: I gave up Diet Coke about a year ago - and I have not had a single gall bladder attack since!!! I had read up on all of the negative side affects from Aspartame - so I just decided to give up the diet soda. I had no idea my gall bladder attacks could have been brought on by Aspartame. Maybe that was it, maybe not...but it sure is a coincidence!

No, none of the women who have posted here are crazy!! I have definitely noticed a connection between my periods and gallbladder pain, even discomfort. This is REAL and doctors need to take it seriously, as it is clear that many women are experiencing this suffering. I read that studies have found that the gallbladder contains progesterone receptors, one of the main menstrual cycle hormones. Dietary changes and ibuprofen have helped to steer me clear of gallbladder attacks for the past 2 years, but my gallbladder still acts up from time to time. Guess when? During my period.
And I only found this thread because, today, I experienced the most gallbladder pain that I've had for 2 years. And, guess what, this is the first day of my period..!
To all the ladies out there who have experienced, and/or continue to experience, this frightening, debilitating condition, you are not crazy. This is real, and we need our health care providers to take it seriously. PERIOD.

Hello, I am 27 and I have been experiencing this pain for the past 10 years. I have recently noticed a correlation between my inflammation outbreaks and my period. I have been tested for gallbladder issues with no results. I have just learned to deal with it. I noticed that what I eat definitely has an effect on whether or not I have an outbreak each month when I start my menstrual cycle. Although I sometimes have breakouts even when I'm not menstruating, I have noticed they are more likely to occur when I am. The pain usually starts in the afternoon and lasts throughout the night, with the pain increasing as it gets later in the day. Sometimes is goes away the first day, and sometimes It persists for 2-3 days. What works for me is reclining on the couch and relaxing as much as possible. I literally don't move at all. I even avoid taking deep breaths. I focus on my breathing and trying to relax my stomach and back completely. Do something to keep your mind off it like reading or watching a movie. And reclining is key. If I try to lay horizontally then the pain increases. I know that hearing that you just have to live with it is not what you want to hear, but knowing how to work through it makes a big difference. Hope this helps!
