In addition, I have noticed a lot of the pain is caused by gas. I have recently started taking gas x when I notice the pain coming on and it has helped. It doesn't always help, but it's absolutely worth a try. I always carry some with me now! Good luck everyone!
I have the same pain and I don't have a gallbladder but I have issue withe my pancreas which does have something to do with hormones and my doctors still argue with me. Have your pancreas checked.
I too have gallbladder pain that comes often during menstrual periods- first day especially. Drs brushed it off, I too even thought I was being dramatic about period pain, but the area is most definitely gallbladder, upper right side. When it first occurred 8 months ago (without my period) it was so debilitating that I couldn't sit down, it felt better to stand. I had shaky fevers, a large lump appeared on my stomach and I was so bloated that I looked pregnant. I've seen the period onset pattern for several months now. Thank you for the validation and helpful advice.
I have the same issue and hormones can Inflame gallbaldder . My physician told me to take a digestive enzyme with everyday and 3 if I eat a meal with lots of fat.
My doctor recommended a digestive enzyme sold at any health food or vitamin store. One or two with main meal and 3 if you eat a meal with a lot of fat. Only been a week for me but def Seems to help.
I use to get gallbladder and pancreas attacks every month before my cycle. I was in hell for 2 years dodging surgery and ending up on morphine almost every other month... I went to see an integrative gyn who finally heard me out and said my hormones were off sync and were shocking my liver, gallbladder and pancreas eventhough my blood panels always read normal. She asked me to buy wild yam cream and start using it and the I made it to the following period without an attack after 2 + years of hell. It saved me. Aside from this I also started taking ox bile and curcumin. Stay strong, they're has to be a solution out there for you.
Guest that noted the use of Wild Yam Cream. Can you tell me how you use the Wild Yam Cream?
I have been experiencing severe pain in the right upper area of my abdomen that started immediately before my most recent period. I went to the doctor and had blood work and ultrasound that were both very boring. The pain persisted & an MRI was recommended, but delayed due to insurance & scheduling difficulties. Then around the time of ovulation, the pain suddenly worsened & I had to go to the ER for it. Again, blood work & CT there were boring, but pain meds & anti-nausea meds helped. Finally seeking the advice of a GI specialist, I got diagnosed with "Sphincture of Oddi" disorder. Without any stones. This problem is most common in females in their 30s & 40s, but usually AFTER gallbladder removal (unlike me who has a gallbladder still). i'm currently awaiting the available time that the specialist can perform the endoscopic procedure to open my bike duct Sphincture (not surgery). While I'm waiting, I've noticed a decrease in the pain & nausea as my cycle progresses towards my next period. In reading about other women's problems I'm convinced the change is temporary and will likely get worse again after my period starts (because progesterone that the ovaries emit between ovulation & the next menstration causes relaxation of the Sphincture muscle at the root of the problem). My advice to other women experiencing this issue is to talk with your doctor & ask for Referral to a Gastroenterologist to discuss endoscopy (the procedure has some significant risks, so might not be appropriate for everyone). Also, I've found LOW fat meals & frequent SMALL meals is helping prevent gallbladder contractions that lead to the increased pain on the right side (just FYI)
I'm torn between feeling relieved to have found a group that can empathize with what I have been dealing with over the years... then, there's that thought of all of us having to deal with this pain with no diagnosis.
I am, in no way saying this may be an answer to our problem, but I have been taking MILK THISTLE (sold at any conv. store: CVS, Target, Wal-Mart..) for the past 2 years now & I have felt/or unfelt a major difference.
I pop one every morning with a tall glass of water, & I don't have to feel so nervous about every meal that I have.

Hi! I have had the same exact symptoms for about 8 years now. I am 23 years old. Every month on the third day of my cycle, my gallbladder becomes so inflamed that I am able to cup it from underneath my right rib area. I have been told that it is possibly endometriosis, IBS, and many more illnesses. They finally found gallstones in an abdominal ultrasound...after 8 years! My gynecologist told me it is psychological and made me feel like I am crazy, but I myself knew there is something wrong. I am now waiting to go see my surgeon for my gallbladder. I was wondering if after you removed your gallbladder, was everything okay? Did you continue getting the gallbladder attacks? I also have a 3cm ovarian cyst, but I am not worried about those, as they have been coming and going for years now.
Thank you!!

I too have had 8 year history of textbook gallbladder colic onset 2 days before my period. pain is ALWAYS prior to menses but not with every menses, always gradual onset after eating . no fever vomitting diarrhea or nausea just feels like fist under right ribs . pain bad enough cannot sit still but not so bad to go to ER. it used to build over couple hours and resolve at 4-6 hours. the past 2-3 years has been more low grade and lasting days. occurs about 8 times a year. several ultrasounds negative for stones. I don't want to spend more money on hida and CT( can't imagine how they would help ) - thought about endometrial implant in right side but my periods are not painful in any other way and actually my ruq pain resolves with menses. my friend in GI suggested maybe sphincter of Oddi dysfunction and said try ibuprofen ( used for SOD) IT IS MAGIC truly which makes me keep endometrial implant in the differential diagnosis. Im glad to hear others suggest this correlation with menses and gallbladder colic. - Ive been reluctant to see surgeon because I imagine they will suggest removal of gallbladder ( mine has adenomyomatosis on US) which is another confounding piece of info since many with adenomyomatosis are totally asymptomatic. After 8 years I think I should decide on a direction -anyone want to weigh in?
Evening all,I'm new here and hoping to hear your symptoms and advice.Heres some background to my story.I have 4 children 15,13,nearly 11 and 3.In the last 3 pregnancies I developed Gestational Diabetes, each time got worse but each time it went after birth. My family has a history of gallbladder problems,my Nan (my mums my)mum, sister,Aunty and my 13yr old At the time have had their gallbladders removed. My Grandad (my Mums dad)died from Pancreatitis back in 1992.I had my gallbladder removed February 15th this year, there were around 4 stones in it.I had my first gallbladder attack November 2nd 2013 (husbands birthday that's how I remember!)
I then got regular attacks roughly every month around the time of my period.Had regular Dr visits, blood tests, gynae appt as thought endometriosis, was given mefanamic acid to take before and during period. It seemed to help a bit but then it got worse.I have been taken to hospital via ambulance as attacks were as you know worse than labour and I've had 4 natural deliveries.
I then had another scan I was found to have 4 gallstones in November 2015 and I had surgery for removal of gallbladder in February 2016.
Keyhole Surgery wasn't straight forward as I had lost extra blood from the GB being too attached to my liver.
I was sent home the next day,Tuesday and rested in bed and was doing ok until the Thursday I started getting the exact same rightside pains front and back, sickness, hot and cold sweats as a gallbladder attack.I crawled to the bathroom and was stuck there on the floor,my Husband was at work and my mum had not left,I had my 4 children home with me as it was after school.I got my oldest daughter to ring 999 as I was in agony and couldn't speak, they could hear me in pain and sent an ambulance,by then my Mum and husband had come back after my Daughter rang them.I really thought I was dying or that something had ruptured as I had no gallbladder so why an attack??
Had morphine via cannula and taken to hospital where I was out of it for 2 days on morphine, had MRI to check for bile leak and any more stones, all clear.I had also trouble breathing,it really hurt to breath or lie down.I was in for a week and then released to find out I then had pleurisy.
I have still been getting what I call "gallbladder attacks" at least every month when I'm on my period and when I drink alcohol (always seems to coincidence that when I have a drink out with friends I'm on)
I had my latest blood results for my liver and kidneys and they have come back normal.Im awaiting another scan and referral back to my surgeon.

Hello. I am having mine removed tomorrow. All my tests have come back clear, yet they are convinced this is why I am so sick. I have MANY friends who have also had theirs removed after all tests (bloodwork, ultrasound, CT scan, MRI.)came back clear. They are all doing fantastic now. Gives me hope. Maybe you can have some hope too.
Hi.
I have gallstones and have suffered with attacks ever since I had my little boy. I am awaiting an operation to have my gallbladder removed.
I find I have an attack the night my period arrives regardless of what I have eaten during the day. This has happened every month since I got diagnosed with gallstones.
If the pain you're feeling is from gallstones, I really feel for you.
Good luck.

Thank you for your post! I am in the same place - pain and nausea but ALL tests are normal. How have you done post- removal?
