i've had these strange heart fluttering that is accompanied by the uncontrollable urge to cough. My grandmother suggested it may be symptoms of angina but I haven't yet researched this. The strange thing about this fluttering is it actually feels like my heart is beating so hard that it's slapping the inside of my ribcage, has anyone else had it feel quite that rigorous? I think mine may be caffeine related but then I had stopped caffeine for several months and still had these symptoms on and off, haven't seen a doctor just out of stubborn nature and because of the sheer infrequency of the symptoms.
Ive been experiencing many of the same symptoms and have been really worried. I will just be standing somewhere doing absolutely nothing that could be stressing me out and my heart will feel like it speeds up really fast, I feel nauseous and it throws me into some kind of coughing fit....I have mentioned this to a doctor, but I was complaining of another problem that was more pressing so it was overlooked.....I know i have some anxiety problems, but I dont know if the two are related since it happens whether or not i am stressed......
also - i do not drink soda, coffee or other caffeinated beverages, I am 5'7" weighing 172 pounds so im not really overweight and I dont ingest a lot of sugary foods....

testing one two threee.
Happens to me too! After reading these I guess there is no point in going to the doctor. I don't think it has ever happened to me when I am lying down though, just during the day.
I also have been having, sometimes several times a day, sometimes not at all, a heart skip and then my heart races while I have to cough. Seems to happen more lying down. I am female, age 40, 50 lbs overweight but losing. I've been exercising since January w/good results and I thought this would decrease the episodes but it hasn't. I don't drink caffine, I do some alcohol, and I don't think this could be related to stress. I have had it several years now and wonder what it is. My doc thinks I'm too young to worry about anything and hasn't tested me at all. All of these entries are years old - does anyone have any updated information?
IT COULD BE SOME OF YOU ARE EXPERIEMCING PANIC/ANXIETY ATTACKS
YES YOU CAN HAVE THE WITHOUT REALIZING WHAT IS HAPPENING
Hey bud just replying to your message here....i have been experiencing the same thing i it started in late late feburary this year of 2011 but it wasnt that serious so i kept on smoking pot, i only smoked pot. However i did it again in thr 3rd week or so in April and that did for me ever since then ive been having random heart palpitations, heavyness in my chest pressure in my head, ive been to the hospital on 5 or 6 occations did a EKG, blood work ,cat scan , stress test, and it all came back normal it feels weird when i lay down flat on my back at nights mainly...its like im running out of options i havnt found nothing curable yet just praying thats all that we can all do.
To the person who was experiencing the same problems and wanted to know whether the symptoms had anything in common:
I'm a 26 year old female, normal weight, and otherwise healthy except for a few anxiety issues. I sometimes experience fluttering that lasts 10-15 seconds and then the urge to cough once or twice. As some other people have said, it feels like you've just had the wind knocked out of you (without the trauma impact, of course, but my lungs feel flat and I'm a little breathless during the episode.) It doesn't get worse when I lay down, that I've noticed. It actually seems to occur most when I'm sitting up. It happens very rarely, and I've never had two episodes in a row.
It's definitely not a panic attack, as someone suggested. I have had panic attacks and they don't feel like this. These have no emotional component to them, they're almost like reflexes.
I looked up "premature atrial contractions" and found some resources that describe exactly what I experience so I think I'm healthy in the heart department.

Magnesium deficiency also take fish oil. Read up on blackstrap molasses.
Hi guys,
I seem to get palpitations & then the urge to cough.
A question to you all is it possibly related to exhaustion? I average 5 hours a night sleep & have operated in this perpetual state of exhaustion for a very long time.
I must say that exercise definitely seems to help. :-)

Hello...I'm a 39 year old male about 5'8' and I weigh around 220 pounds. I've been reading this thread and I'm going through like fluttering in the center of my chest also. It makes me cough when it starts. I've been through massive stress being unemployed (it's going to be 3 years in October) and I also suffer with depression.....and am not a good sleeper either. Has anyone had definite answers as to what this is? I'm without insurance and can't afford to go to the doctors. I think it's been going on for about 3 weeks now. I read that potassium and magnesium supplements in a previous post helped....has anyone else tried this? Please respond...cause this is really scaring me.....thanks.
Magnesium won't hurt, try it. It worked for me. But you should go to the dr., If you are stressed and overweight and not sleeping well you have some risk factors there. There should be a clinic or community health center that you can go to that shouldn't cost too much. Better to be safe than sorry.
