I'm glad I found these postings. This just started happening to me again about a week ago...like a skipped heartbeat and a cough that most of the time accompanies it. I had an EKG done a few years ago. I was having this and was a little dehydrated. EKG was fine. Doc told me to drink more water...and powerade. And, I stopped drinking caffeine altogether (except chocolate on occassion). It was a scary month for me. I'm in my early 50's now so I have been thinking that (both times) may be due to perimenopausal symptoms. Then they thought my thyroid may be the problem, but I knew perimenopausal symptoms could cause that too....so I declined a thyroid script and take a low dose of L-tyrosine from the health food store most days. I'm hoping the tyroid works through it until after menopause and am just trying to offer support. Anyway...both time this heartbeat and cough thing has happened, I've been under stress. Not real bad, but I guess bad for me. I'm going to try exercising more. Cut back on the (holiday) chocolate, pump up my water intake and see if it helps. It's been happening daily for about a week now, but not nearly as bad as last time. It's just very scary.

You could start by losing weight. I lost 20lbs and feel so much better. Now I realize just how much overtime my poor heart was doing! My palpitations are rare now, and when I get missed beats and the cough, I take very deep, long breaths anpd this helps. Also take hawthorn and fish oils.

Palpitations, Cough in my case = Esophagitis I resolve it with Nexium 40 mg./day

I am glad I found your post, it's comforting. This has been happening to me for a while now and I am huge procrastinator in seeking health care. It freaks me out! I keep telling myself that it's only a skipped beat but it freaks me out especially if I have to cough to catch my breath. I also feel this weird feeling in my heart when I lay down at night on my left side, it doesn't happen often, but when it happens I have to change that position and the feeling disappears.

This happened to me as well. Had it for several years. Was going through a really bad divorce for the last 7 yrs and I still am. I noticed the cough like everyone else and this jut started the other day. Previously I was reading up on the internet them started taking potassium supplements and my palpitations went away completely. You all might want to try that. Just one pill a day any cvs or other drugstore has them. But this cough heart issue is all too new and different. Thank you

I'm also in the medical field. Last summer I had a work up done and fond nothing, they went away. Last week, while on vacation in Europe (after a long flight) it came back. It seemed worse this time... I would have noticeably faint beats in concession followed by a strong- wham! L ventricle contraction (think) and slight dizziness. I've been home for 3 days now and it's starting to dissipate. Although I'm positive its electrical in nature, have you looked into pulmonary emboli? I did not have an echo last summer as per advice because the symptoms went away before the appointment. What do think?

Well at last someone who actually has diagnosed my problem! So succinct & to the point, better than anyone here in the UK thanks! I too wore a heart monitor but of course it didn't happen when I wore it, echo-cardiogram was fine, & I don't drink coffee, a glass of fizz now & then well that's another matter! Thanks again. Victoria.

I have this too. It feels like your hear is jumping sideways just for a quick second and then you get a cough like you are choking.

What happened? I'm having these symptoms now and am having an ultrasound on my heart tomorrow. Already wore the 48 hour monitor.

I have the same thing as everyone else and its getting worse. Both laying down and walking around. Your the first one that has the heartburn too! Mine is so bad IT feels like a heart attack. I throw up from it too. A few of you might want to check out what I have been diagnosed with. Late Stage Neurological Lyme Disease...another imaginary disease (CDC).
