Hi, so I've had this thing for over 10 years, my ears hiss all day every day (it's like having the old TV static in my head, remember the black and white static?) I've had so many days off work because I can't cope with the pain which is there as soon as I wake up, in my ears and all around my neck.. Ive tried the nasal sprays, I've tried everything the doctors have given me, the only thing that helped was grommets but they don't last long! For me I get about 6 months of relief and I can't afford to take the two weeks off work and find someone to look after my children for two weeks twice a year while I cringe at the sound of a toilet flushing, or my own breathing!)
Has anyone found something that works for long term etd? The doctors aren't sure but my etd could have been caused by head trauma, i don't know if that's what caused it.. no one else in my family has this the docs don't actually understand how painful and depressing it all is either, they just say well you'll need to go through all of the sprays first before we can get you referred to a specialist..
Help! I'm currently in bed, kids aren't at school and i'm not at work today

Hi Dianne,

It is good to hear that you managed to recover from this dreadful illness. I have had it now for over 4 months. I went to see the ENT yesterday who said that it was ETD. He told me to continue to take my steriod spray and refered me for an MRI scan. I have tried absolutely everyhting and nothing at all seems to help me. I'm at my wits end :(

I have had etd for 2 months. Think a cold caused it. Its awful cos I constantly have pressure in my ears and around my head, my head aches sometimes to. Tried sudafed, nasal spray (still trying that) and often try to pop my ears, pinching my nose and blowing. Wil try taking vitamin c if it works. Been referred to see a ENT specialist but that could take 6 to 8 weeks. My new symptom is feeling dizzy and that with the pressure really scares me. I don't get ringing or have trouble hearing people so even though drs told me its etd I sometimes believe its more than that. I just don't know what to do in the meantime, of anyone has a suggestion I woulf appreciate it

sorry, dont want to sound negitive, but it has been a horrible thing to deal with, it slowly improves with time. i have cfs/me so thats why mine has taken a long time to heal, my body was so weak and i was very ill, am slowly coming out the other side now. but when im tired or run down, my ears always start feeling tight and full and full of pressure, like an elastic band pulled tight and being pinged, thats my eardrums! it is upsetting and has driven me insane at times but i learned to live with it, the best i could. eat well, drink water, be healthy and rest so your body can repair.

I appreciate the honesty. Im taking pills for my dizziness that doc prescribed and finally got my ENT appt for April so hopefully in a little of months time I will be better. I agree with you its awful, I hope you feel better soon, everyone on here. Taking your advice eating and drinking healthy. I think worrying and overthinking makes the condition 10 times worse, I am realizing that I need to relax to get better.

Hey everyone- as I read through a lot of what people are going through I have been fighting a lot of these symptoms for over a year. I recently went to the Mayo Clinic in AZ to see a specialist and we have determined that there is absolutely nothing wrong with my ears. TMJ has been the culprit. I would suggest anyone that cannot get any answers investigate TMJ as that can set off just about every symptom you would think would be associated with a eustacian problem.

How are you doing today? Are you better? What ended up being the matter?

Had ETD for a long time, over 5 years. Had an extremely bad ear infection 5 years to this date that took mos to go away and eventually led to a myringotomy. That also took some time to heal as right after I felt like half my head was in a box. Yes, the claustrophobic feeling is horrible. I get sinus infections 1-2xs/year. and the tinnitus is terrible as well. One specialist in the Philly area said just deal with it because he has it!! Yeah right, not a good answer. SOooooo...I an visiting a new ear specialist this month to see what he would recommend for clearing up the negative pressure in my ears and tinnitus, I can barely fly and is painful. Any recommendations for natural relief or therapy is welcomed! thanks
