Hello!
I need advice, because something strange is happening to me. For the past two months I am smelling smoke all the time. I keep on asking people around me if they smell it too, but the answer is no. I smell it everywhere/ in gym, in office, at home… Does anyone have any advice what this might be?

My wife and I can also smell smoke but not always at the same time and like timothyb have had some health issues to start with my wife got merkel cell cancer on the face, psoriasis, rosacia, painful leg muscle constrictions, chest and arm pain . I have been very healthy am 62 and have never missed more than a dozen days of work in 44 years just retiring started with neck pain, feet hurt when arising, also hips, the last couple of weeks have developed a spot on my leg that resembles psoriasis or other skin rash .... am thinking this is related to chemicals in the house also have noticed that those scented plugin things give me a headache and effect my throat, could this be causing our symptoms?

I can relate to everyone! I cannot believe that so many other people have complained of the very same symptoms that I have. I was starting to believe the same thing that I fear other people think of me, and that is that I am crazy! But, I know that I am not, it's just that I cannot get past this strange smell of smoke that follows me everywhere!
I swear, I have moved from one place to another and everywhere I go I is a sickening smell of smoke especially in my bedroom everywhere that I go. I am so tired and I even experience having an allergic reaction like runny nose, sore throat, headaches and now I am starting to experience tightness of the chest. I can't take it anymore, it is about to drive me crazy expecially since I live in an apartment where my neighbors beneath me chain smoke. It is only January and my lease isn't up until November.
I feel like I am going to die, someone please help me. Help me to find a doctor in Phoenix, Arizona who can help me.
I also suffer from GERD, TMJ, and Headaches. Can anyone reccommend a doctor in Tempe or Phoenix, Arizona PLEASE HELP!

After some research I have decided to clean out my attached garage of all paints . pesticides, lawn care chemicals, and house SCENTED PLUGIN THINGS and now seriously looking at household cleaning items. The reason I am doing this is that I figure whatever is causing this is not just failing physical health because both my wife and I are having the same symptoms even though my symptoms are slower to materialize ( my wife is alot more sensitive than I) WE CAN'T BOTH BE HAVING FAILING HEALTH WITH THE SAME BODY PARTS UNLESS IT IS EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT THAT WE ARE BOTH EXPOSED TO. Our diets have not changed for years though we do eat out more.

I'm so glad I'm not going crazy! I have changed the filters on the central air heaters, and used a "Neddy Pot" to wash out my sinuses but I'm still smelling smoke. I am never around smokers but I have that burning sensation in the back of my nose and eyes as if I've been in a smoky room. I'm constantly asking my family--"do you smell that? It's kind of like turning on an old electric heater that is covered with dust. Kind of a dusty hot smell--if that makes any sense. I'm having a hard time pinning it down to an identifiable smell. I am going on 6 years smelling cigarette smoke. I never have smoked and nobody in my home smokes. I don't have friends that smoke. It is like someone is sitting next to me on the sofa smoking away and blowing the smoke in my face. Sometimes it burns my eyes and is so strong I can taste it. Nobody else smells it. I have left the room and it shows up in a new location after about 10 minutes like it's the ghost of my father following me all over the house. I have yelled at the smell to go away and that seems as crazy as smelling it in the first place. That by the way, does not work either. I recently heard on one of those medical shows, that smelling smoke is a sign of a brain tumor but it didn't specify what type of smoke. Mine is without a doubt cigarette.
I can't believe all the posts about people smelling cigarette smoke! I have been smelling it for months now in my house. Everywhere I go, no one else smells it. Even at work! My eyes burn, I wake up with a cough. I've thought it was the ghost of my mom. Or the previous tenant of the house I'm renting died and was a smoker. Looks like I should call my doctor, getting scared now and people think I'm nuts!
thamk god im not going mad
i have had the smell for about 6 weeks. the smell was very strong and as a smoker even i found this smell obnoxious. i decided that it was definately time to give up, i have gone on to a low tar brand and have cut down to about 5 a day im nearly there but not quite.
however the smell is constantly with me and not quite the same as when i have just had a cigarette or somebody has one near by.
this smell is in my nasal passages. i have noticed that i do not smell out of both nostrils, one side is constantly blocked.
previously this smell was only with me when i was at home but yesterday and today i smelt it at work. i own a cafe in a forest so the air is as good as it can get. i can smell it inside and outside.
i originally thought that it was my laptop.
my parents are both dead and have felt for quite a while that somebody is trying to tell me something, i have thought that this smell is connected with my parents somehow.
im seeing a claivoyent next week so will post any reports
I started experiencing the same thing within the past 2 to 3 months and it drove me crazy. I could put a freshly laundered towel to my face or my hands and smell fabric softener or my lotion and soap. I realized that I didn't smell it when I first got up in the mornings, nor during the weekend. But once I start smelling it, I smell it for the remainder of the day. I don't smoke and nobody smokes at work or in our building so I decided to try to pinpoint when it starts. I felt certain that it had to be starting at work or during my lunch break since it wasn't happening during the weekends. I take a few medications first thing in the morning and an aspirin at night, but I didn't think it was tied to any of those since the timing didn't seem to match. Tuesday morning of last week I began journaling everything I ate, drank, smelled, lotions I used and when, what time I turned my space heater on, etc. Shortly after I drank a canned Diet Dr. Pepper, I began to smell smoke, and continued to smell it for the remainder of the day. I usually have one in the late morning and another late in the afternoon. Since I really believe that was the link I didn't drink another one all week and I haven't smelled smoke since then. I just started drinking Diet Dr Pepper in the past few months because they along with a few other soft drinks are furnished free at work so the timing coincides with the timeframe that I've been experiencing this. I don't know if it might be the Aspartame or what, but I feel certain that this has been resolved for me. UPDATE: Another week has passed and I glady report that I no longer smell smoke. I feel certain it was related to Diet Dr Pepper.

YES, PLEASE IF YOU FIND OUT ANYTHING ABOUT THE CAUSE OF THIS CONDITION LET ME KNOW. IT IS SOOOOO ANNOYING TO SMELL THIS.MINE STARTED APPROXIMATELY 11 YEARS AGO AND IT LASTED A FEW MONTHS AND WENT AWAY. THEN IT COMES BACK IN NO PARTICULAR PATTERN PERIODICALLY. I AM CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING IT-IT HAS BEEN ABOUT A WEEK NOW. IT SEEM STRONGER AT NIGHT WHEN I AM RELAXED IN BED AND KEEPS ME FROM FALLING ASLEEP. I ASSUME THAT IS BECAUSE I HAVE LESS STIMULUS GOING ON AROUND ME SO THE SMELL SEEMS MORE OBVIOUS. I LITERALLY FEEL LIKE SOMEONE IS HOLDING AN ASHTRAY UNDER MY NOSE, IT IS A TERRIBLE SMELL. NO ONE IN MY HOUSE HOLD SMOKES OR HAS EVER SMOKED. IT IS VERY PERPLEXING, I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT MIGHT BE CAUSING IT. I AM UNABLE TO GET MANY ANSWERS.
Hi-
I am also having a smoke smell both at house and office- really trying to undersatnd why this is happening.
Any help or suggestion is greatly appriciated-
Thanks
I've been smelling cigarettes. I don't smoke I am not around any who does smoke... I've also have been having other issues I've been on here trying to post on also. so I will post here the other issues because they all came about the same time.
"I too have been going through dizziness but mine would alternate between dizziness and/or migraine. I got numbness on the right side of my face and once the headache is gone I was back to dizzy and extremely tired. Only recently have I not had as many headaches but still dizzy to the point I've been afraid to drive in fear of having an accident.
My first incident was while I was sitting down. I went to walk over to another's desk and almost fell over and pass out. That day I went to emergency to be told nothing was wrong. Hmmm...
I have, for most of my life prone to migraines but never this issue with dizziness. So far, I have had an MRI, my blood pressure is a bit high and the dr. placed me on meds for that. Stated my HDL is high gave me meds for that and gave me meds for migraine and will be going to the neurologist in a few days. I went to GYN who suggested could be related to a fibroid which will get checked out next week...
So, from what I'm seeing from here and from what my docs are saying no one knows and may never know. This is something to be concerned about."
Good news... this is most likely caused by in deep sinus infection, symptoms include smelling smoke (either like cigarettes or wood smoke), sore eyes, sore throat. You may have no breathing difficulties. The smell you can smell is the infection and a course of strong antibiotics should clear it up in a few days.
Go to your doctor, explain your symptoms and suggest he/she tests you for a sinus infection.
Hope this helps :-)
