Hello!
I need advice, because something strange is happening to me. For the past two months I am smelling smoke all the time. I keep on asking people around me if they smell it too, but the answer is no. I smell it everywhere/ in gym, in office, at home… Does anyone have any advice what this might be?

I have been anemic and was eating ice, my Dr put me on an iron regiment, I no longer eat ice, but now I have a sensation of smelling cigarette smoke, I have been smelling smoke constantly for a week. I am a non smoker in a non smoker environment. My sister was anemic a couple of years ago. She said she was told you go through steps of anemia and the ice is the last, before you got there you went through a period of smelling smoke, I did, I believe for a month or so. Now that my iron is better, she said I had to go back through the other symptom as my iron increased. I was trying to find information about this. I am trying to find out more from medical sites, and found this site, hopefully this will help others on their journey.

Do any of you light the fireplace with wood-I think I have noticed this is when it happens to me. Its when I accidentally get a puff of smoke when turning the firewood-then for days I will smell it in the afternoons only! It's weird! I try to use saline sprays up my nose-it helps for a little while but the smell comes back. This won't happen in the summer so this is why I think it's the firwood! I asked a biology teacher that I work with (I know he's not a dr so it's only an opinion) and he thought maybe I singed the hair in my nose or the smoke got into the membranes in my sinuses. It's just weird that I only start smelling it in the afternoons?!!
Thank You to everyone here. Many comments confirm what I have been noticing. When I smell this smoky smell it is strongest around my computer and around my mattress. I have been able to clear it with liver cleansing herbs and taking a run outdoors. But the next time I get on my laptop for several hours it comes back.
I have been searching to find a laptop or pc that does not cause this. If anyone can figure out which computers do not cause such reactions please post your findings. I do not own a tablet. Maybe it is one solution.
LOL...
funny thread.
Let me ask you... do you live near train tracks? traffic? maybe a nighbour with an annoying noisey truck he/she runs for 15 minutes before driving everyday.
IF SO..... and probably one of the above..
Your insanely reacting to DIESEL.. DIESEL is poison.
I have a nieghbour who remote starts his truck and runs it for 20 mins before leaving everyday.. I used to stand outside and smoke and wave and he'd pull in my driveway and yap for 10 15 mins while his truck is still warming up...
about 1 hour later im in my home thinking wow my smokes today were stale... then next day what the hell?? and next this lasts for about 3 days for me.. then gone.
BUT! if my nieghbour comes around with that truck I say turn it off asap.
Im not 100% its that because I dont particarily want to test it again, cause the smoke ashtray smell is annoying..
But I will tell you ever since ive discovered this and stayed clear of his diesel truck I havent got it back.
Sit back and think, do your parents friends, husband wife have a diesel car / truck? is theres a train or station outside or even tracks near you? chances are its diesel..
Do you ride the transit??
Hope you all reply back with ... you know what!?!??!... i am exposed to diesel!!!!
;)
I have been having this smoke smell since last year, it wasn't really annoying because it was not that strong. but in January I suddenly had the smoke smell and it was so strong that it gave me a panic attack that made me very ill for weeks. Today is the second time that I have the smoke smell so strong again, this time I could control myself and stop the panic attack.
I have been trying to figure out what could cause this smoke smell, this may sound weird but I suspect oatmeal does this to me, I realized this one day when I ate oatmeal and about two hours later I had the smoke smell and felt ill, that's when I decided to sop eating it. I was feeling fine the days after that. Me being stupid, I decided to eat some oatmeal last Sunday, I did eat it on Monday, Tuesday and yesterday too. Yesterday at night I was feeling sick, and when I woke up today, guess what, I had the smoke smell again haunting me, I will never eat that oatmeal again.
Hi! I too could smell smoke every day in my office, but no one else could. I just knew someone was taking an early morning smoke in either the bathrooms or stairwells. Well it turns out, there are two people who sit fairly close to me in the office (no separate cubicles) and they are smokers. I don't smell the funk until those two come in and I'm pretty sure they smoke before entering the building. I decided to pay attention to when the smell was heaviest and who or what was going on around me at the time. I was right -- it's the smoking co-workers. So I guess the fumes of it are still very fresh on them when they come in from their smokes and yes, I do have sinus problems so I think that makes me more sensitive to the 'ugh-roma'.
Mine started up yesterday. Non-smoking environments all around. No one else smells it, driving me nuts and I am glad I read this post. This is not a case of someone starting their car or neighbors who smoke. It follows me everywhere. Here are my variables
-at the computer (different computers) a lot!
-Exercise frequently
-Eating lots of protein the past few months
-Take aderall for ADHD
Put your hands over your nose and mouth (like a mask) and breathe in and out through your nose for a few minutes whenever needed, it'll stop the awful burning smoke smell. I think the smell is an allergy to something. I have been suffering for years. I have moved house, replaced all my furniture, purchased air purifiers and nothing works.
I have been experiencing this for about 4 years. I was diagnosed with Phantosmia. After a CT there were no brain tumors and after a thorough exam of the sinuses, no physical reason was evident. I mostly smell car exhaust and cigarette smoke. I have noticed that most fowl smells are the same when I clearly know they aren't. Something like the smell of Downy and baby products do not smell like they used to. I have noticed this had also affected my taste and food doesn't always taste good. It comes in spurts and may last for months then all of a sudden, I have a day or two that seem normal but it always comes. back. I would appreciate any more information anyone can provide.
I have also been smelling stale cigarette smoke all the time. Thinking I was crazy, I even thought dad was near me. He passed away 23 years ago from lung cancer. I will be same age in a couple days as he was when he passed. I think I also have sinus issues, no pain, runny nose but just this awful smell for a month now. Just wish it would go away.
I have noticed that i am smelling stale cigarette smoke for about three weeks now. I went online and came across a posting that has totally surprised my. I recently changed my contact lens to Johnson & Johnson Oasys and when i read the posting I have copied below, it made complete sense. I am going to stop using my lenses and see if that will cure the problem. Please let me know if anyone else uses contact lens. I never would have thought that could be a cause

I do not wear contacts. I am starting to wonder if my ozone machine might be the cause. I turned the ozone off and the symptoms are getting better. I guess only time will tell.
I can't tell you how many sites I've found on the internet with people complaining about the same symptom(s). What is really annoying is that people post once then never post again. People say they're going to the doctor then don't report back with information. Am I to gather by this that no one has found the answer? My E.N.T. is treating me with antibiotics but I sincerely doubt they will do any good. I tried to explain to him that I thought this involved my olfactory nerve but he basically ignored that suggestion. I find it hard to believe that all the people that have posted here over the past year have found no answers to report back with.
For me, I only have this burning smell at home. I spent 2 hours at the dentist's office today and had no symptoms. Thirty seconds after walking into my house, the symptoms started up again. I sit out on my porch and it goes away. I come back inside, it starts. It is so severe that at times I feel as if I'm choking. My eyes burn from the back. Humidity helps immensely with the symptoms. Am I to deduce that my environment is too dry? If anyone has found out any information on this...post it, please.
