Okay, looking at the other posts on this site, people have mentioned the smoke smell could be coming from:
1) Severe sinusitis
2) Acid reflux damage in back of throat
3) Medications
4) Humidifiers, deodorizers, anything that produces a scent

So you all should see an ENT asap

Ok, I've just started smelling the same thing, the cigarette smoke.  When I spoke to a friend of mine she said she was having the same problem, but she went to her doctor because he said its the sign of a stoke.  I don't believe that AT ALL.... but everyone on here seems to have the same things going on.  Has anyone got advice from a doctor... if so, please let me know?  I'll ask my doctor next week for his office is closed for the next 3 days.

Thanks in advance

Well, one more here. I thought I was stupid to type the "why do I smell cigarette smoke all the time" thing, but happy (happy??) to see I'm not the only one. I do not smoke, no meds, love climbing and fresh air, this thing is kinda freaking me out as well. No allergies, it gives me a little pressure in the frontal sinuses (right above the eyes/nose). Have Dr. appointment next week, will see what the guy says...

I recently began to smell smoke constantly too. After researching I am almost positive that the inflammation of the olfactory nerve due to sinus allergies, dust, pregnancy, and other environmental factors . Check with your doctor or do some online research

Hello,
I know its been some time since you last posted this but just seeing this today since I wanted to see if anyone else was having the same "smoke smelling" issues I have been having. Looks like I am not alone and know I have NOT lost my mind. LOL - The reason that I choice to reply to your post is because I just recently learned that I have hypothyroidism and WAS taking Levothyroxine up until this morning. I saw my Enc dr yesterday and my blood levels are doubled from 3 months prior (before I was on this med) so he has taken me off until we can rule out the meds causing the issue. It has to be the meds possible causing us to smell smoke as we have been doing. Did you smell smoke prior to taking this meds? And just curious what are your blood levels and is the meds helping you? My eyes are also burning and some headaches as well. I thought I having sinus headaches since my nose would bother me early in the morning. I hope you are better since it has been some time. Hope to hear from you or anyone else for that matter.

Hi, I gotta say, THANK YOU, to the person who started this post. I'm one of the many who's experiencing this odd symptom. I've been smelling smoke for 2 weeks. It happened before but it was only while in apartment. This time around it's when I've been out. Today, was the day I had to google the question. I was in a diner and half way through meal started smelling smoke. I asked friend but she smelled nothing. I have the same issues as all posted here. There have been times when it gets worse as if someone blew it directly in my face. I have a sense of inhaling smoke that isn't there with eyes/throat burning, even as I sit here typing to you all. I, too take Zyrtec, singulair, nasal sprays and shots.

I will be contacting my ENT doc on Monday.

Thanks, again.

My problem with this started in 2002. Here it is, ten years later, and I still have this problem off and on. Sometimes it gets so bad that I have to take Vicks Vapor Rub and put it under my nose. When that doesn’t help, I just keep the bottle of Vicks held under my nose. I not only smell this while I am at home, but sometimes it happens in my office and in some stores. One thing I’ve noticed is that it happens when I drink carbonated beverages. I hadn’t had a problem for a while and then earlier this week, it started when I had a beer. I also have been drinking carbonated water and while I was putting gas in my car, I washed my hands with the carbonated water I had in the car. Last night, I had a sparkling wine and the burning smell was bad. I am drinking Coke right now and I smell the burning as I type this message. I am going to stop drinking carbonated beverages and see what happens.

Hello Edna. I read your post. I have the same problem, but I am not on any medications. I seem to have the problem when I drink carbonated beverages. Starting tomorrow, I am going to free myself of all carbonated beverages, sparkling warters, sparkling wines and beer (it going to be difficult). I need to find a solution for this because It is driving me nuts.

Hi so here's my follow-up post. I saw my ENT doctor today and he's sending me for an MRI of brain. The smelling of cig snake has become an a little disconcerting because its happening everywhere I go since my previous post. Even today while in doctors office. So "olfactory hallucinations or phantosmia" makes for a very imformative read.

I'll post again when I know more

I have been experiencing this too and as I was typing in to Google "I smell smoke all the time," I was thinking there would not be anything out there with this nut job title. Eureka!! I found this and someone posted that it could be caused by Acid Reflux, which I have a lot of and I believe that this started right after I had an episode but have not put two and two together until now. I should also mention I am not on any medications. So, thanks to whomever started this wonderful thread. I am making an appt. to see a doctor about it before I get worse.

Hi, here's my update since my posts. So, in finding out that we're all maybe having "olfactory hallucinations" or "phantosmia" (check out my link in earlier post) I went to ENT doc last week and he first checked nose and only saw the usual inflammation because of allergies. So he sent me to have brain MRI, this past Monday. I saw him Friday for report and there wasn't anything that he saw that he could do, so he's sending me to neurologist. Why? Because there is a "change in white matter which reflects, microvascular ischemia disease." I looked it up and mentions indicative of mini strokes or MS. I don't think I have the latter as it supposedly would be seen in ages 20-40 and I'm 53. So now I wait to see him.
