I had a vasectomy eight days ago and suffered a hematoma and had a fair amount to pain. The hematoma has almost resolved itself but I am left with a lot of pain in my testicles and a feeling I would liken to a pulled muscle above my scrotum. Also, there is a large lump, about the size of a golf ball above my testicle. Has anyone had a similar experience? What can I do?
I am on my fourth day and I am having similar symptoms. Whenever I walk around my I feel some pain in my balls, otherwise no pain at all.
I have no lump but my testicles are swollen, about the size of an orange. Also, it is bruised.

Hi, I know that you posted this message september last year, but i was wondering how you've gone on since then ?
I too have had a vasectomy only 7 days ago and now have similar symptons to what you've described above, eg the Hermatoma, and a the pulled muscle sensation and lump.
Please could you be kind enough to let me know if these problems have resolved themself ? and how long before you were back to normal etc ?
Or if anyone else have had a similar experience ? can you let me know how you went on please ? Thanks !

These problems seem to be more common than doctors tell you. I too had significant swelling (softball size) of the scrotom the first time I had sex after my vasectomy. I still have lumps and pain after almost 18 months. I have no sex drive, difficulty getting aroused and little feeling in the scrotum and penis. I don't even like to be touched anymore. So, because I have recently remarried and to help resolve the pain I am going to get a reversal. I hope it takes care of the problems.
Vasectomy = castration + painfull balls.

Hello,
I am having what sounds to be the same thing. I had a hematoma with a lot of swelling and pain for about 2 weeks after my vasectomy.
Now it has been a little over 3 weeks and I am no longer in pain but have a large hard lump. Its about the size of a walnut and hard as a rock. I'm also Still swelling some times.
I should note that before the vasectomy there was no lumps and everything was it working order.
I know this post is a couple years old but there is no information on the internet about this so figured I would post what I'm going through. Anyone have any information on how to speed up the healing process of this lump, or gone through this same thing?

I myself am at 3 weeks post Vasectomy, thumbnail sized lump underneath left testicle (not attached) that was described as a hematoma, the docs gave me Roxicet for the pain x1.5 weeks post-op, now I am going in for another last minute appt because about 20min ago I stood up and almost puked from the sudden pain. WTF is going on, this was supposed to be an easy outpatient procedure.....
I am 8 days after a Vasectomy and I have large lumps on both sides and constant pain (varies from mild to severe throughout the day). I went to see the surgeon and he told me that the lumps were normal and would eventually go away, but I shouldn't be in any pain. All he did was tell me to take pain killers and rest.....so much for a simple procedure with a "couple of days of minor pain". I did everything I was supposed to - rested up, used regular ice packs, anti-inflammatory etc. Nothing helps. The pain gets so bad I think I am going to throw up.
I guess I will persist for another week, and then I think I might get a second opinion - I can't keep going on like this...

Why oh why do I find this forum AFTER having a vasectomy! If I had found it before there is no way would I have gone through with it. Out patient my ass! My sack is completly black and blue my nuts are the size of a friggin grapefruit! "A few days off and you'll be as good as new" I'd like to know the percentage of guys who go back to work after 2 days it really cant be that high. This is a nightmare!
Its been Nine days now for me and my left testical is killing me. I too was told 2 or 3 day discomfort. I wore the jock strap , I iced it and took the pills. I have a golf ball size lump that worries me what the heck is it? I went back to the doc. he made out like it was normal. It doesn't feel normal at all i strongly discourage anyone from doing this c**p. Im so angry i thought a few days then back to normal well the lump is getting bigger and sorer please someone tell me that this was not a huge mistake.......
I have been trying to read and find out as much as I can about problems post-vasectomy. Before I had the vasectomy, I had spoken to several of my friends who had it done and all said it was easy, only a few days recovery then back to normal. I also did research and spoke with the doctor. The downside seemed to be dwarfed by the upside (downside is always stated at less than 5% of cases). Well, 10 days post-vasectomy and it appears I'm one of the rare 5% that has some problems. My left testicle seems to be in good shape, healed nicely, no bruising, after about 4 days, it felt normal again. However, my right side is a different story.
During the procedure, this side hurt a lot. There was way more swelling on this side, and bruising. This side is extremely sensitive and has a dull ache day in and day out. I went back to the doctor 5 days after the procedure, he examined me and said he was "pleased" overall with the signs, prescribed me some antibiotics, and told me to continue ice, ibuprophen, and rest. Now the swelling has subsided for the most part on my right side, and now I notice a large knot on my right testicle, about the size of a large marble. It is sensitive to the touch (after feeling it it leaves the feeling of how it feels after you've been kicked there). It doesn't move, but it is very large.
I don't know what to do. I know this is not something that was there prior to the vasectomy. I don't know how long it will take to be back to normal, or if I ever will. How long do I have to take it easy? Can I ever run again? Can I ever play with my children again? Can I ever do yard work again? I am very displeased and regret doing this.
If anyone out there can relate to my experience, and has seen the lump resolve itself, I would appreciate any feedback you can give. How are you doing now? How long did it take?

I interviewed four doctors before my vasectomy. Finally choose the one my brother had do his. Up and at it the next day. Just a dull ache for a few days. No swelling, no bruising, no stitches. Three weeks ago.
THIS IS TO "GUEST" ON 01-24-11............ Hoping that you will pass along some good news to me. I'm 17 days post op, my right nut has been fine for about a week, my left is at 95% good. My scar tissue lump on the right is sore. All I'm doing is walking right now, NOOOOO running or jogging, sounds like a similar case to you, sleeping is getting difficult, everyone said it was easy. How did you turn out??????
I had a bilateral vasectomy almost two weeks ago now. The right side is healing up nicely and the swellings gone down. However, the left side is another story! It's still really sore around the stitches, there's a large, hard painful lump beneath, and above the stitches there's another hard lump which feels like it's going back into my body.
I took a week off work as I was in pain after the op and walking like John Wayne most of the time. I returned to work this week, and I'm on my feet most of the time. After the first night it was quite painful and uncomfortable on my left side so I went to see the doctor today.
She said it feels like a collection of blood, or a haematoma, and prescribed me some antibiotics, as well as advising me to keep taking Ibuprofen.
I've had people at work tell me horror stories, as well as some of them saying that theirs went just fine.
When it feels as painful as this though, it makes you wonder why you bothered having it done in the first place!

Day 24, my right nut has been fine since day 10, my left gets a "tiny" bit better each day. Hoping for a full recovery weeks from now. Other guys say, 5-8 days & 100%. The jock strap helps, but I really dont want to wear this the rest of my life. Smaller fitting underwear helps to hold the sac in place. I can walk ok for the most part FINALLY. If I knew then what I know now, I would have never had this done. "Simple" procedure my sore left nut!
Day 27 now, testicales seem to both be fine for the most part. I visited the Dr & he said I can go back to any activity I want. I've been a bit more active & now my groin aches constantly, though a continuous cough probably does not help. I cannot jog or run yet without feeling the "sqeezing" on my left nut. I can walk fine though 99% of the time. If given the opportunity to do this again, I would still walk out at the last minute even if the doc had equipment in had & my sack in the other, NO DOUBT IN MY MIND. I would not & do not recommend this to anyone, though everyone is different. One doctor (urologist) told me that HALF of the guys are fine in 7 days, the other half, well, it takes longer................ I'm hopefull for a FULL recovery, but who knows how I'll be feeling in a month? One guy I personally spoke with said it was 6 months before he was 100%. I hope I'm a slow healer. Everyone is different & I do seem to be getting a tiny bit better everyday.
THIS IS AN ELECTIVE PROCEDURE FOR MOST, NOT DUE TO A HEALTH ISSUE!!!!! **I** WOULD NOT DO THIS AGAIN!!! Most people are fine having it done, but I hope I'm not one of the unlucky, it would NOT be worth it to go through life always feeling like this, or not being able to run let alone jog if needed w/o feeling pain/sqeezing/pulling.
