Hello, I too have experience clots from time to time. Im 37, married with 5 children. My husband got a vasectomy(sp?) about 10 years ago. There is absolutely no chance Im pregnant. Over the years I have had serveral instances where the clots were about 3''x3'' at the most, and thats pretty big. But just today I pasted a clot about 4"x4". Thats what made me start reseaching. I also have mild cramping, fatigue and yesterday a headache. I had strong cramping when I was in highschool and early 20's. After having the children they went away but comes back from time to time mildly and the clotting has as ive said been time to time. My clots are deep red thick and circular. Looks like red liver. I still dont know what it is but for me it isnt a miscarriage. I hope this helped. I have never pasted a grey clot or whitish clot though.

I have the same problem. Large cloths....etc. So I went to my doctor who thought it was "normal" but I insist and kept asking questions about. so my Dr. decided to test to see if I was getting anemic first. I did the test and the result was anemic. Next due to the result my Dr. decided to due a ultrasound and a histerosonogram and they found polyps and irregular uterine wall. now my Dr. will remove the polyps and see if that helps with the occasional heavy bleeding and cloths.

I'm no doctor but I certainly would not worry. After having many huge clots at various ocasions, I went to the doctor and he said that blood clots of all sizes are very normal and that many of his female patients report an irregular period at one time or another. He said that when blood pools in the uterus faster than the body can remove it, a clot will form. It's not big deal but if you are worried, I'm sure they can do various testing. One test option is an ultrasound to check for any polyps or cysts. It is common for females to get cysts that come and go from time to time. A polyp inside the uterus would cause the blood to pool inside and thus block clear exit of blood. I really truly would not worry. I have had irregular periods my entire life and just passed two large clots 5 minutes ago. It just happens. If you are in pain or really freaking out, by all means see a doctor... though they are likely to take some blood to make sure that you are not anemic from blood loss.... seems to be what my dr. does every time i go there regarding my period. They are more concerned about blood count then they are about the clots. Clotting is normal.

Smile and don't worry about it!!!

I have been having really heavy periods for the last several years. I would soak up up super plus absorbency tampons and pads up within 5 minutes...
It got so bad that i was diagnosed with anemia (low iron in blood).
After years of telling my gyno my problems,he would just switch my pills. I've been on 10 different pills. Nothing worked.
I then researched and found out i could have fibroids.
I asked my gyno for an ultrasound test, and behold~~ i had over 5 fibroids growing in my uterus.
I recently had them surgerically taken out, except for 1 since it was too embedded in the uterus wall...
So moral of the story~~~~ ask for an ultrasound... You might have fibriods!!!

I recently just had a blood clot about an inch long but not too thick. It didnt look clear so i used my pad and toilet paper to see if it was something concerning. It looked like flesh, almost like my uterus lining was seriously coming out in a clot. I was completely grossed out but reading everyones comments, i realize it is more normal than i thought.

I'm currently undergoing a miscarriage and many of you are describing what the vaginal discharge is like. I have had extensive bleeding over a short period of time with many small blood clots. I have also had two very large, which may look like large "blood clots" are really 1-3 inch sized peices of flesh. If you don't closely examine the large clots you may overlook the fact that it is actually a thick skin (possibly with veins, as I have seen) coated in blood clots. It is nothing to worry about; it is just the placenta, which has had 6-7 weeks to grow for me, being expelled from my body.
It may be possible that some of you could have been pregnant and had a misscarriage without ever realizing you were pregnant in the first place. Although, it may also be possible that some of you are having normal periods and your uterine lining had grown thicker than usual.

I have also experienced this problem today, but my clots were accompanied with upper leg and back pain. My tubes have been tied for almost 11yrs., so pregnancy is my very last concern, but reading some of your posts has me wondering about fibroids, cysts, and ovarian cancer. Please let me know if any of your doctors has confirmed this. thank you, take care

HELLO LADIES...My best friend is having the same problems as everyone here. We both did alot of research and are still. Her doc suggested she get on birth control to stop getting her period for three months. Blood clots are a way your body is telling you to get toxins out of your blood. It consists of red and white blood cells and platelets emeshed. It is old Uterine tissue. Clotting is a healing mechanism which is in effect when there is an injury or damage to it's tissue. (Abortion will cause this damage)Blood platelets will start to clump together when they come into contact w damaged artery walls if you are nutruient defiecient due to poor dietary habits or use of medication (overuse of any pills is harmful to organs), or have a predisposed genetic condition, such as Factor V (5) Leidon in which the blood has an increased tendency to form clots. Garlic, onions, ginger is good for this(helps with blood clots but makes u stinky!). Take Vitamins: Vitamin E and Vitamin K, magnesium, and Vitamin C. Yes, that's all fine but I know it is very stressful and very painful. I would suggest to get the shot or a pill and only get your period every three months. DO NOT go beyond three months without having your period. Remember gettting a menstrual cycle is healthy. During this stressful time keep a heating pad on your stomach and drink lots of hot tea(gingko biloba, lemon ginger), this losen's the mucus. DO NOT TAKE BLOOD THINNERS UNLESS PRESCRIBED BY DOCTOR!!! Face it ladies...there are things we will have to put up with being a woman. This is why we have a very high tolorence for pain. It prepares us for giving birth. Hang on and just prepare yourself for when you know you will get your period.

Hi everyone I was wondering if any of you guys have an idea whats going on with me!

So I'm 15 and I have had my period since i was 11. From day dot my cycle has always been 35 days and it only ever lasts 1 day not even that. I will get it on a Wednesday at 10.30am and by the time i go to bed that night its gone completely- No spotting nothing. In the 12 hours or so I am unable to do anything the pain is so intense nothing helps! I can't sleep cause its so painful aswell. Recently I have been in hospital for 18 days with an infection from a dog bite- on IV antibiotcs and then i was in for stomach cramps which is still being looked into. Anyway with my period I am experiencing MASSIVE blood clots but there not like what you have all described. I find it very unusual and haven't heard of anyone havng anything like it. In my very short period (can't really even call it a period) I am getting no blood unless i go to the toilet, once i go to the toilet i have blood clots but also a thick blood clot sorta thing which just hangs there and i have to wipe to get rid of it. (sorry it sounds disgusting) Anyone experienced this or any advice on what to do?

Thanks Jessica

hello,
In the last 5 years, when I did get my period (it doesn't come normally) it was always heavy. Now i pass blood clots like crazy to the point I'm afraid to leave the house on those days for fear that I would bleed thru my pad and into my pants (has happened b4). I pass clots every 15 to 30 minutes. Most of the time they are longer than 3 inches.  My mother said she was the same way when she was younger, and that I'm over reacting when I say I could become anemic with all the blood lost and heavy clotting. My GYN says i have PCOS (Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome) which means my ovaries have too many follicles. I'm not sure if this contributes to the clots or not. I was put on birth control to regulate my cycle but I'm still nervous about the clots, it just doesn't seem right. The next time I see my GYN I'll ask him again about the clots.

I have the same thing. My doctor said it was the uterine lining breaking away from the uterine walls and is normal.

Go get a second opinion. That is a completely false statement that your doctor made. I was a medical assistant and worked in OB/GYN and Reproductive Endocrinology offices. Some doctors will say anything to reassure their patient there is nothing wrong. To rule out Endometriosis you will need to have laparoscopy. Sometimes Endometriosis will get better after having a child, but in no way does it make you immune to it.

Im also experiencing blood clotts but they are not that big... more like the size of a quarter. I've never had this until recently its not a normal thing for me. I am going to be 30 in may so I'm wondering if its a hormonal change.... but I haven't had children yet. After reading a little about it I don't think I need to see a dr about it unless it gets larger and painful. I just don't like when abnormal things happen.
