I think I know what you mean by that, are there any certain times when the areola gets puffy or does it just happen randomly? Sorry for all the questions but it just helps with getting an understanding what causes it, one last question can I ask how old you are?
no don't worry about the questions, you've been so helpful - when by breasts are warm or in neutral i guess you could say the areola becomes enlarged and my nipple retracts into it (but not inverted its kind of flush) - it doesn't happen randomly its kind of a constant state (apart from the times explained before). I know that many women dont always have an erect nipple but my areola becomes twice the size when not erect and my breasts turn into a completely different shape) - I'm 18
I'm guessing they also puff up when your sexually aroused as well, also do you notice that they get more prominent leading up to the start of your period?
I understand by what you mean almost looks like you don't have a nilple when the areola swells, I have seen one female who had puffy areolas about the size of a large chickens egg when she was cold or aroused so looked like another small breast coming out of her breast, it could be just hormones causing it and may settle down more as you get older.

Yeh in a way - they don't really "erect" or further puff up when aroused but when cold my nipples and areola retract and become a "prefect nipple" and look very nice. Its just when they are warm they seem to puff up - why does this happen? I have the implant and don't have many periods so I actually don't notice.
Do you mean a hormone deficiency? Lack of oestrogen? If so is there any way i can boost these levels and would it make a difference?

Ah ok I get you, so in a way when they are cold they are just like a guys penis when cold and shrink rather in your case making your breast look normal.
It normally extra hormones that can cause puffy nipples like just before a period of during pregnancy woman find it happens rather than lack of hormone, my theory is the area under your areola is made up of spongy tissue like the penis and when warm extra blood flow to them causes them to swell where as when cold the blood vessels contract an close causing the blood to drain and become less prominent if that makes sense but it's only my theory.
Take a look at this link and pick out what number you would class your breasts as, also can I ask how big and what cup size you are?

Without actually being able to see the different stages they go through it makes it hard to actually say what other reason it could be.
Your theory makes perfect sense - is this the case for most women or? The closest is probably number 3 and I'm a B/C cup
That's about the closest explanation I have even though everything you read doesn't mention anything about any corpus tissue what's found in the penis in the aroela or nipple, as for if it happens the same for others with puffy nipples I can't actually say as I don't know anyone personally with them.
Well at least you have normal shaped breasts rather than tubular breasts what would make puffy nipples look even more strange, it could be something that you out grow as you get older and have kids or it could be you have them for life, sorry I can't actually give you an exact answer but I hope what I have said helps you feel more comfortable, just remember though to the more mature guy puffy nipples are like little pots of gold.

i've got puffy nipples, most girls do during puberty, but they get to "normal" after some time, only some of us get stuck with them puffy. Mine grew that way when I was 14 and they got only larger and puffier until I was 16 and my breasts stopped growing. They are like you say, the size of an egg (well actually half an egg of course, cut the long way, for they are slightly oval). But being cold or being aroused does the same thing: the areola retracts and the nipple becomes visible. So it's not that arousal makes them swell, it's just like for other women, arousal makes the areola wrinkle and become smaller and the nipple erect. When I'm on "neutral", my areola is more or less 2.3'' x 2'' (the left one is slightly smaller but not significantly) and the mound is 1.1'' high (it swells to 1.3-1.4'' when I have my period; my left one is much less high, only 0.5 and swelling to 0.6'' during my period). When I'm cold or aroused, the mound goes completely away on both sides and my nipples appear. My right areola measures then only 1.6'' x 1.4 but my left one becomes the larger one (2'' x 1.8'') and when my nipples are completely hard they make up for 2/3-3/4 of the height of the mound, the right one gets 0.8'' long and 0.6'' in diameter and the left one 0.3'' long and 0,2'' diameter. So my areolas and nipples are really quite different, but they kind of work the same, whereas my breasts are symetrical. Also my areola and my nipples are too big for my breastsize (I'm an A cup). But you see, the nipple protruding and getting hard goes together with the puffy mound disappearing. There is nothing common between your penis and our breats. :)

If you read through my third to last post you would see I haven't said anything about being turned makes them grow I have actually said just like the cold makes a guys penis shrink by shutting down blood vessels the same happens to the areola when cold.
I also know that as breasts start to develope the areolas are more puffy but as you say most grow out as the breast develops more.
