And also, i have had my tonsils removed when i was a child, so it couldn't be tonsillitis. I Strongly believe it has something to do with Sinus infections :)

^^^ oh and also to my 2 last messages (the 2 before this) i have a gum infection too. This could possibly be a contributing factor? Gum infections are likely to bring out your lymph nodes(or glands) to protect the body from the infection, so that could be the cause of the lumps on my neck. The fact that i have a sinus infection and a gum infection (thats 2 different infections) could be the cause to my sore throat. Make sure to check for any type of infection that you could have. It seems that when you get an infection that this happens with your throat. This is not definite, but i feel it's a good enough theory, and i have read most of the posts on this and most relate back to a previous (recent) infection. Again, i hope i helped :P peace.

I also have the same problem.  I had tonsilitis years ago, never had tonsils removed though, and the pain sort of feels like that.  I too have been suffering with allergy symptoms for the past month.  I live in Pittsburgh, PA and our weather has been unusually warm for this time of year.  I think the allergies are the culprit.  I am very stuffed/clogged in my ears, and my throat also felt like it was going to close/hard to breathe.  I like Allegra-D to decongest, but it does make me a bit drowsy.  I tried eating Sucrets throat drops but they did not help.  When I look at my left tonsil, it's definately swollen, and i can tell my sinuses are dripping into my throat, so I'm assuming that's the cause. Good luck to all. Allergies can be debilitating in my opinoin.xp

HELLLLPPPP!!!! I was really ill with the flu about two weeks ago (fully recovered) but i was left with a swollen throat on one side, naturally, and rather stupidly i prodded it, ever since then i've had a hideous pain every time i swallow, open my mouth, move my tongue etc. I AM a smoker, and can't help  but think this is prolonging the issue, i really dislike going to the doctors so i'm trying to put that off, today it is the most painful it's ever been. Help, anyone!?

Wow this is crazy how many people have this problem because i also have this problem and im from michigan. it started out as a itch with very little soreness in my throat, and then progressed over a few days. soon i was coughing so hard my throat felt raw and the left side of my throat became very irritated. the only thing that worked for me was a spoonful of honey and hot tea mixed with honey lemon and sugar. i also thought it might have been cancer because i smoke alot of good weed but who am i kidding im oly 18, so now i think its just the way i cough.Because i noticed when i do cough the force of which i cough is more often than not directed towards the left side of my throat creating irritation and soreness. also you might want to gargle with listerine or salt water that also helps to.

Hi there.

I'm sorry for my bad english, I'm Italian.

I have the same issue with my left side of the throat. Is not  realy a sore but a discomfort when I speack and when I swallow. It becomes worst when I'm in an emotional stress. In the mirror I can see  the omohyoid muscle becomes tense whenever I speak or swallow.

I found on pubmed some artciles about a very rare condition called "omohyoid syndrome" that seemed.Someone else notice the same thing?

i found out what this problem is.... anyone who said it is caused by smoke, or soda is correct, take it from a smoker of 6 years, and a soda drinker (up to a case of soda a day) and up to 3 pack of cigs a day aswell. i quit drinking sodas and stopped smoking, within 2-3 days my sore throat was gone. so NO soda of any kind, and NO smoke of any kind, it will just make it worse. -colin-

I am only barley 17 and iv been having my throat hurt on te left side only for about 3 weeks. I'm scared its cancer and I told my mom I need to go to the doctor but she scared take medicine cause we don't have insurance but nothing is helping. It hurts constantly - swallowing, coughing, yawning, and even when I'm just siting still sometimes :(

I had the same problem, it seems to be coming back every few months. Especially in Canada where it is Cold as hell. I am having the pain again. Last time what I did was, I took some strepsils and gargled with a mixture of hot water and salt. And I am smoker too, I am sure, and I hope its not cancer or anything like that. Its just a infection caused by many things. But again, Its just me. Consult your doctor before anything.

Ive got the same thing since yesterday. After attending a mothers lunch get together nd speaking alot to catch up with them. My left side of throat started go sore. Its as if 1 long vein in in pain all the way from top of throat to the bottom and sometimes feel pain in left ear but thats obviously because its all connected. I havent been to see doc yet and do get this few times in a year however i usually get runny nose or phlegm while getting pain in throat like now. And from my opinion its a virul infection in the air its usually when weather has dradtically changes like yesterday we had a blizzard and it snowed in spring here in England. Weird! Docs here usually dont even give anti biotics for virul stuff as they know it wont help. Its just one of them.things which will pass by our system naturally in a week or 2. So things which usually soothes and helps symtoms go away: Gargling with hot salty water, eating hot boiled egg with black tea with added honey or having honey & water and of course pain killers. Applying wicks to outer neck and behind ear area and massaging it usually helps too and keeping the area warm. Avoid cold drinks and greasy food. Also try quit smoking while in pain but saying that im not a smoker and its not caused by smoking : )
