holy c**p, i know exactly what you are talking about, im 16 years old and have been smoking for practically half my life an just recently ive been getting these really bad pains in my upper stomach area. and i mean REALLY bad, like one time i literally thought my guts were gonna pop out my belly, and it seems the more weed i smoke the more it hurts too, and it is usually followed by diareah. I know for a fact its not the quality of weed i smoke thats giving me pain because im always smoking with the same krew and nobody but me gets it,and its DEFINATELY not the way i smoke neither, i mean i dont like to brag or nuthin but im kinda a weed master( i mean i have been smoking for a very long time with no breaks and i smash a 10 sac or more a day)so i know how to not swallow my hits. so wat the hells wrong with me? i mean besides a little weight problem im a relatively healthy teenager. why am i getting these pains now? i love weed like shes part of the family and i dont wanna say good bye, help me! o.O o.O o.O o.O o.O o.O o.O o.O
I have such intense stomach pain that I can't sleep a single night without waking up. Protonix has not helped. Doctors have said nothing's wrong withme. What does help though is Orange Medimusal.
I've been smoking 2-3 bowls a night for the past 2 years. A few months ago I started having what I thought was panic attacks- always when I smoked. A few months before I had begun having really loose, gassy bowel movements. Then, one attack was so bad I had to go to the emergency room. Something about it just didn't seem like a panic attack though. Burping greatly relieved the pressure, and that seems very odd if it were a panic attack. After reading this thread, I realize this is what's going on with me. The gas and bloating became so bad I could barely breathe. This would occur well before any panic began. I kept describing to the ER doctor that it was a very physical feeling and I was under no emotional stress. Not being able to breath is what lead to the panic. Like many of the people on this thread, I quit smoking and showed significant improvement; then I tried smoking again thinking enough time had gone by that I could handle it, but it came right back. Now I'm terrified that I've caused permanent damage to my digestive system. I'm having a full blown existential crisis. I am with most of you that I love smoking pot, and I'm not anti pot, but for me, my body and psyche can't handle it anymore. The constant discomfort and fear are more than i can handle. We all know what is causing our problems, we just wish it were something else, even look for something else for it to be. I have convinced myself it was just panic, asthma (which I don't have), and even that a deviated septum in my nose was the cause of my problems. But it is pot. My problem is smoking pot. And if you've sought out this forum, I'm betting yours is too. I feel confident that this time, I really am done. Best of luck to you all in your efforts to quit.
My son is 18 and smokes pot almost everday. He had such terrible stomach pains we took him to the hospital. They said nothing wrong, gave him stuff to stop throwing up. He is having another attack tonight. No vomiting. Gave him some Pepto and sent him to bed. He says the pain is so sharp. I asked my husband if he thought it was all the pot smoking, he says NO......but you all seem to be telling me different.
I am not against the smoking, but his health is more important than going through this. Thanks for all your insight, maybe he'll lay off for a few days.

Hi first of all i came about this site because I was searching for marijuana to settle stomache pain since i quit smoking cigarettes april 2nd of this year my stomache has just been horrible the only thing i can find to keep it in check during the day hours is omneprezole the 14 day pill thats supposed to last 4 months "not quite" and zantac 75 if it gets really bad but if found that smoking a little bowl keeps the pain at bay for me im experiencing all of the symptoms that all of you are just the opposite effects when it comes to the pot it helps so much and takes the pain away. Its starting to cost me more than traditional medicine though because the pain is getting so serious and frequent I dont know Im 23 and just got layed off from my dream career and things aren't great at home so i contribute some of this to undue stress and blah blah, but all in all the good reefer helps me. Speaking of which excuse me while i step outside.
You know, for some people, it works well and for other people it doesn't. I am glad to hear that it works for you however. Thanks for posting!
I get cramps from some weed. I think its the chemical fertilizer, pesticide, miracle grow.....etc the growers use that gave me cramps. know your source and get organic or grow yourself.
It is also possible that you could be slightly allergic to some strains of weed as well. It is hard to tell without any sort of FDA testing. Fertilizer wouldn't necessarily cause muscle cramps as it would induce nausea or vomiting. Does that make sense?
I have recently quit smoking marijuana roughly 2 months ago. I have had the same problems with my stomach as well, though I was bleeding from the lining of my stomach. I found that when I smoked, it seemed to get worse, and occassionally, I would vomit. I didn't think anything of it, but I did start to blame my marijuana usage early on in the stages of it, but I ignored it. I soon became very ill, I could not eat but maybe a small bit a day, and I lots 60-70 pounds in a course of 2 months. I noticed deep ridges in my muscles, and found that I had become anemic, my body was atropying, and I was very close to starving to death. Afterwards, I moved in with my GF, who lived 2 and a half hours away, and did not condone of my usage. I quit while I was with her, got regular excercise, and her mother cooked fresh meals every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I soon gained back all my muscle mass, my stomach problems had all but disappeared (A little flare up now and again, I mean my stomach was bleeding, it's not going to heal that fast), and I felt terrific. I went back to visit my friends, and I smoked with them after about 4 months of being clean. Upon my return, I noticed the usual activity of my stomach, and I was unable to eat for several days. It cleared up quickly (thankfully), and I was able to continue on. But I still was stupid enough to do it again. I went back home after my girl and I had a falling out, and I smoked a bunch with my friend. I didn't get sick the first time, but I noticed that I was starting to have stomach problems again, as well as more digestive system problems as well. I wasn't going to the bathroom regularly, and after a few weeks of smoking, I smoked some Supa Silva Haze with a few of my buddies. After that, my pulse skyrocketed, my entire abdomen started to feel awkward and just not right at all, and I vomitted up a lot of blood. I took my pulse and had my friend who doesn't smoke check as well, and I was at a critical level for 3 hours. I feared for my life, but I eventually gave up on that and passed out on my friends couch. I woke up the next morning completely refreshed, to the shock of everyone there, who had thought I had died because I had apparently not been breathing. I vowed from then on to stop smoking, for it was harming me badly.
All thats goin on with pain in your stomach area when your smoking is a tightness of muscles either caused by stress weight problems or an underlying condition the other thing that could cause this is laced pot. If someone mixes something in with your pot that you have never had before and you dont know you can receive quite a jolt because you are experiencing something that you have never had before. What you should do is stop smoking for 2 -4 weeks (how long it takes a daily user to drain a good portion of THC out of the fat cells ) drink plenty of water and see if the problems go away if not its not the weed. (also try and find a different dealer)
Over the last month I've been experiencing the same thing many of you have. Abdominal pain/discomfort/distention (swelling). Sometimes diarrheia, often loose stool. I went to the ER once and an urgent care and both doctors didnt seem to have any solid diagnosis.
In the back of my mind I guess I knew it was the weed, but I love smoking it so much I was ignoring the symptoms. Within 10 minutes after I take a hit or two, the abdominal discomfort begins. After 5+ hours or so (when I'm coming down) it stops. I just came to this 'realization' a few days ago, and testing the theory out makes it pretty clear its related to weed.

I have two theories:
1) There are outside toxins added to the marijuana. The most plausible explaination for this would be herbicides or pesticides. One user posted something about the herbicide 'Paraquat' - take a look at that article if you haven't already: - this could also be the reason that vaporizors dont seem to cause strong symptoms (the toxin has a higher burning point)
2) Something in the marijuana is interacting with a pre-existing condition we all have such as Gastroparesis, or Gastritis or something.
-
I think we need to keep contributing to this thread and see if we can collectively find a solution.
I'd be interested in hearing if anyone who has this medical condition grows their own weed, or if we're all getting it from dealers? How about getting your MJ from a different dealer?
-
Also, a few things I've noted about this thread:
- This thread is about abdominal symptoms when USING weed, not symptoms after withdrawal. Though I do encourage those users to discuss that problem as well (maybe in a different thread?).
- DONT BE AFRAID TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR YOU SMOKE WEED! Witholding information from your doctor is NOT a good idea. Doctors are held (in the US) by doctor-patient confidentiality. I think at MOST the only person they can tell is your insurance provider, and all that would cause is your insurance premium to go up by a minimal amount.
- Try hard to stop smoking the weed if it's causing these symptoms. I know, it sucks. It's gonna be damn hard for me to stop, but I'm there with you guys. Maybe only smoke when theres a new batch from a different dealer?
- EATING pot brownies or other pot-infused treats could be DANGEROUS if you're having these symptoms. Eating weed (as others have pointed out) can be very, very potent - and it's possible that the symptoms could be just as potent. Be careful.
Peace, and good luck.

I stumbled upon this forum and found this source...read for yourself but one thing it says...
In this issue of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, Boesmans et al. show that CB1 receptor activation on myenteric neurons maintained in primary culture can suppress neuronal activity, inhibit synaptic transmission and mitochondrial transport along axons. They also provide initial evidence that myenteric neurons (or other cell types present in the cultures) release endocannabinoids and which activate CB1 receptors constitutively
IF I read correctly I take this as cannabinoids inhibit nerve transmission in the enteric (intestinal) nervous system. I can imagine this would have some type of effect that could be causing these symptoms. I am not a doctor or even claiming this means anything but it is an interesting article.

I just ate marijuana, baked it through an egg, this afternoon. However, I am having severe stomach cramps right now. I wonder if it has anything to do with it.
