This just happened to me. Do you have any updates?

Going on a week of heavy bleeding and cramping. It does come and go, but I've been on the Mirena for 3+ years and have had zero sign of my period up until now. I went into the ER because I was afraid I was having a miscarriage as the first day it was very very bad. They told me it was just my period and that I need to follow up with my PCP. I think I will be removing it as I'm just not myself. Hormones are crazy. Fatigue is crazy. Cramps are crazy. While my bleeding is not bad right now, it still freaks me out as I'm just not used to it.

What did the doctor say? I'm having the same problem but only had it in a year

I am 4 years into my Mirena and for the last year solid my period is back and my bleeding is longer than a week. Year 3 I could wear a light day pad and be okay and then this past year I had to start buying tampons again. NO FUN! Periods lasting 2-3 weeks now. Before Mirena my periods were heavy but only lasted a week. Now after sex the bleeding will happen, like another period. I am thinking of having it removed. Not sure the 5 years is for everyone. I loved my IUD when I first got it. Loved it the 2nd year but the 3rd and 4th year aren't good.

I have had my iud for over a year now. Never once bleed... last night I started having had cramps. Where it even hurt to sit up and down. Today I had blood running down my leg, I decided to go to the we. Turns out the bleeding was coming from my cervix and I have a cyst on my left ovary. And a UTI. The bleeding has gotten heavier and heavier since then. So I might go back in.

I can't answer everything u are experiencing, but when my left ovary was in massive pain.. my doc said it was due to ovulation in that ovary. It would happen every other month.

I'm experiencing bright red bleeding, not heavy, in between my periods (yes unfortunately I'm the lucky few that still get it). Its up for removal in Feb 2017. I'm so tempted to take it out now. Hope u found answers.

I've had my mIrena for 3 years. I just got my first full on period. Last couple months I had been spotting just a little. I also have had a very mild discomfort in my left ovary. I've been reading a lot and it seems as though the mirena has not been very convenient after 4 years. But I am going to have mine taken out.

This is EXACTLY what I am experiencing

I'm the same: Mirena for three years then all of a sudden super heavy periods with blood clots. Maybe the Mirena has stopped releasing the hormones. I have endometriosis which the Mirena is supposed to assist with. Time to get checked out again.

I had my Mirena inserted under general anasthetic in March 2014 due to period issues (long heavy periods, nausea, moodiness, cramping, history of PCOS), i have not had children, so post insertion pain was horrible and sporadic spotting for first 3 months drove me bonkers, after 3 months of this my periods stopped all together along with all my associated symptoms (hallelujah!!!). In March 2016 my periods returned, light to start with but eventually progressed to a 28 day cycle with 14 days of bleeding and 7 days of pre menstrual cramping.

I went and saw my ob gyn who suggested that my body may have chewed up the chemical component of the mirena faster than normal, he has seen this frequently occur 3+ years post insertion but not this early, despite chemical component not working for me the mirena still acts as an effective contraceptive. Given i had the mirena for period issues, i opted to go under anasthetic again and have my mirena changed over for a new one and see how it goes. Fingers crossed this one works longer than 2 years because when it was working it was the best thing i ever had.

This is just my experience and if you are experiencing any abnormal changes/symptoms with your mirena please book in to see your doctor or specialist

Reading through all the responses on here, tours matched almost 100%. I was wondering if you would be so kind as to to let me know how things worked out? Did you just need a new one? Mine is probably getting ready to be replaced, I'll look into it. I've had 2 over the last 16 years and its been wonderful...up until today when this started.

This happened to me after having the mirena 2 years period free! Best 2 years of my life btw! I was very worried so I went to the doctors and she said that this is common, and after a couple years of the mirena being in, the hormones aren't as strong as they once were! Still strong enough to prevent pregnancy, not strong enough to rid a period completely unfortunately. I will say my periods are very light and manageable but it's quite the bummer that they came back at all. Chances are the same has happened to you but if you continue to worry it helps to see a doctor.
