Thank you so much for writing this. I do the same thing with my almost 4 year old. It has lasted two years and starting to make some progress but it is still so challenging. The rest of society doesn't understand. I have tried the card system, spanking, ignoring, diatracting, understanding, much much more attention, more outdoor activity, sit down talks after the tantrum. He is just very temperamental and always wants the attention on him and wants to throw a fit to get his way even though HE NEVER does. Screamers do not equal neglect or spoiled!!!

my neighbors have this little girl that screams for no reason. She does it for attention and the parents do not seem to mind it or even react to it. They treat it as if it is the sound of an Angel playing the Harp or something. Kids respond to positive and negative reinforcement. That was probably what the psychology scholar was referencing without being specific. Pavlov's Dog was one of the studies. If your child screams in every ocassion that they are around adults and this behavior results in the parent rewarding the child with attention and affection, what a child craves, then what is to stop the brat from doing this sort of thing when anyone is around or even when they are in preschool and around teachers and other kids? Or when they hear or see neighbors in this and my case? The answer is nothing is going to prevent this behavior because the child associates screaming and temper tantrums in public with pleasure and happy people who will attend to them. The solution is quite simple. A stern and not so affectionate grab out of the baby chair and a whisk away into the darkest and quitest part of the house or apartment where they will be left alone until they have run out of energy to scream and cry. Parents need to pay attention though and be disciplined themselves. As soon as the crying and screaming stop or fade the mother should then go in to give affection to her young child and bring him/her back outside where the civilized adults are. But it is usually people from third world countries having children before being able to afford a home with insulation from external and internal noise. And lets face it, it is not the geographical location that makes a country third world, it is the people living in that country who are raised without any discipline and taught the wrong things and the wrong philosophies or ethical principles. So what makes you think they are going to come to America and all of the sudden change? Not going to happen. Your best option is to either make a scene and be a pain in the ass yourself, yell and scream about it and be unreasonable and confrontational with the parents about it, or move out. Because they are in paradise. They ain't going nowhere until someone comes in and takes them out by force. And that person is not going to be you unless you want to lose your freedom via law enforcement. Someone unfortunately taught these people how to call the police.

Ok, so what do I do about the kid outside right now, screaming at the top of his lungs because what ever adults that are with him think it's funny and aren't telling him to stop? I'd think by now, the way this kid is screaming, and for how long he has been doing it, that his vocal cords would be shot right now, but he keeps on going. It's driving my animals nuts, and I don't want to be that neighbor yelling at the grownups to teach the kid some freaking manners. It's 930pm. I should be surprised that on a Wednesday he is not in bed, but for some reason the surprise hasn't hit me yet.

If the parents are not around they are giving up their voting rights on how to raise the child. And hey there is a basic rule at play here. If a parent is unable or unwilling to raise their children to be responsible and productive members of society, society is going to raise the little squirts for them at some point in their life and in one way or another. Society is not going to allow now 3 year old Pedro or Issam Mohammed (both third world names mind you) from becoming 19 year old savages with ball bats with the authority to decide who gets a fresh ding in the side of their Silverado and who does not. See young Mohammed will either receive negative reinforcement as a toddler for his poor decisions or he will catch an assault charge and a first strike on his record as an adult. If society no longer has the capacity or the means to take over the Hajji or Cardena families parenting responsibility then they will rid the earth of their presense via gunshot to the chest at that tender age when boy becomes man, as when one adult male greets another in a public or private street with a deadly weapon the victim of this exchange has every right to go from mentor to just deadly nemises with an equal or more effective deadly weapon of their own. So whether you care about the child, your other law abiding neighbors, or merely your material asset (truck in this case) you should do yourself, a fresh squirt from the third world, your taxpaying brethren, and your insurance agent a huge favor when this occurs again. Stop your truck, open your door, and take off your belt. He is three he is not going to hit you with very much force. either way tanning his hide will be justified at the very least.

I live in a condo and a lot of kids scream during the day for no reason when they play. You know, I work during the night and I need to sleep during the day.

The some irresponsible single parent moves in and because she's a single mom with no help she's entitled to make your lives miserable BY DOING NOTHING???? Just let em scream! scream! scream!!! ARE YOU F"in kidding me? My lawyer AND the police would be over there everyday till the poor single mom actually got off her ass and becomes A PARENT!!!! JESUS! Scummy parents think "there's nothing you can do". Oh YEAH who's the f'in child and who's the f'in adult and tell me who's boss? Take you UNRULY child somewhere she DOESNT LIKE for a change and MAKE them sit there till they promise to be good. JEEZE!!! Is that soo freakin difficult?

I found this site as I was concerned about the child next door who screams the whole time she is playing. I just wondered if it's normal, as I don't have children. I'm relieved to see so many varied views and pleased to see my thoughts echoed in some of the comments. The little girl is playing alone in a paddling pool while her mom sunbathes with ear phones on. to me, it looks like the pour girl is ignored by her mom most of the time and shouted at the rest of it. Other neighbours have commented too. I don't think I've ever seen her play with her daughter, just shout at her. I suppose The screaming may be attention seeking in this case. Such s shame

I think if the kids are screaming without a parent present, one should be able to alert child protective services. Toddlers should not be left outside unattended, even in their own backyard.

Im in the same position.The kids are out there from 8am all the way until 9pm(on a good day). They go past our gate staring and screaming at the top of there stupid lungs. They go past on the little bikes which have the plastic wheels so they make a monumental amount of sound. Everyday I get up hoping it rains so they won't get the opportunity to ride there bikes outside. The parents are complete chavs and cannot be reasoned with at all. The kids I grew up with never went around screaming and roaring as loud as possible. We would go to the park and play football not scream and roar outside for over 12hours a day. How they don't get tired I dont know. Im thinking of reporting them to the housing association but then the chav gang lords( lol) will attempt to argue with me. God I cant wait until its winter and -10ºC outside...

I can understand how you feel, the brats next door to me open their eyes & mouths together at 4.30 am everyday & scream non stop, bash the radiators like steel drums & throw furniture down the stairs, I've had to sleep on my sofa to be furthest away from the noise. I thought they would come through my bedroom wall. Parents must wear ear plugs & seem retarded anyway. The brats scream ALL DAY. My kids are grown up & gone but never behaved like these

I know is not easy to control kids .
But let's be hosnest , no one should have to put up with this this , neighbours kids been screaming pretending not to be dogs and cats for an hour now .
I'm like thinking , just take that brats to your house and not around my garden , people live here !!!!
Obviously it annoys their neighbours so they bring then around my house .
Like wtf , I don't wanna deal with your kids either , go to your part of the grass
