That does seem to be helpful.
Another relief, (but not cure) is a warm bath/shower.
Another tip is not hold the ejaculation, that makes things worse. Arousal without ejaculation for an extended time also makes it worse.
hi there! what i m saying is that...
Hey guys!
I'm a medical student completing my residency at Texas Medical Center. I was just researching on this topic when I found this interesting thread. So I thought about jumping in! Well, to answer Tim_N's question, it's ABSOLUTELY normal to have those kinds of painful erections. However, there are 2 possibilities:
1) As in Tim_N's case, if you masturbate or engage in an intercourse a LOT of times in a single day, or over few days in succession, you sap out all the semen that is produced in the seminal glands. Usually, semen's production depends on various factors such as age, general health, diet, exercise, etc. However, in a young healthy male, it usually takes at least 2-3 days to refill this "sack" of seminal glands after it's been completely "squeezed out". Even in this empty sack situation, you will be able to masturbate or engage in intercourse, but you will observe that the quantity of semen you ejaculated was very low. Now, a normal healthy male typically experiences 15-30 erections every night! However, most of them go unnoticed because you were asleep. Therefore, even if you again "squeeze out", and go to bed, the erections do not stop because that's a natural process. So basically, the pain during these erections is nothing but body's natural way of saying "hey, stop now! Lemme get some rest!".
2) Priapism: It's the sustained erection of penis over more than 4 HOURS. However, this is a medical condition which needs evaluation by a doctor. This condition is completely different than what Tim_N has experienced. So don't worry about it!
In my case if I pee after coming, the pain is smaller or not at all, so I'm pretty sure it has to do with remnant sperm on the urethra. Lets say I masturbate before going to sleep, if I dont pee after it my morning wood will be really painfull.
i am also in my mid twenties, recently after masterbating which i used to from 1 to 3 times aday i feel a pain that comes and goes on the side of my penis. i presumed i should give it a rest for a week without materbating, but dont know if thats the solution to my problem especially thats been hurting me every once in awhile. By the way there is no itching in my case.Im really concerned and hope someone would help.
Neither of those are accurate. I only masturbate once a day, for about 10-15 minutes... if that. If I get an erection for hours afterwards, it feels intensely sore and uncomfortable throughout my penis.
Hey all!
I am the original poster of this topic. I was "woken up" by an E-mail notification. This thread is from such a long time ago!
This problem has gotten quite better. The pain is not as pronounced as it was years ago. I barely masturbate today so it might have a role in that (after I was exaggerating with that I checked the "NoFap" reddit. A great resource for those who feel that the combination of porn & masturbation is not doing them good).
My solution:
Looking back at the replies in this thread, and my own experience, the solution to this problem would be to pee shortly after ejaculation. Using your hand or your partner's to "squeeze" out the leftover semen immediately after ejaculation could be helpful too. Cutting out on masturbation *might* be helpful too.
My theory:
We might have a problem causing an incomplete discharge of semen, which leaves some leftovers in our penis' tubes, which is cleared by the act of peeing. I suspect that during erection, the tubess diameter gets smaller due to the expansion of the penis' muscles and the need for a powerful ejaculation to make fertilization more likely (smaller diameter = faster discharge, just like when you use your thumb to partially block a flowing garden irrigation pipe).
The coagulated sperm could cause pressure on the tubes' inner wall due to it's diameter diminution, which translates into pain during subsequent erections.
What I find inconsistent with this theory is that peeing too late after the ejaculation doesn't "cancel" the 8 hours painful erections period. Maybe after a certain time window, the sperm has coagulated too much and just peeing isn't enough to remove it. Maybe it takes peeing a few more times too help.
Either way, I am glad that we have come to what seems to be a reasonable solution to this problem.
I feel that this thread is a goldmine, since this topic has barely been discussed on the internet (although some fertile discussions might have come to life during the last years).
I wish to thank everybody who has taken part in this!
I already use the method you told me, but unfortunately for me it has nothing to do, that's why I thought it was because of my curvature.
I'm still doing research with perhaps finally hope that this problem disappears one day.
I know this is a rather old thread but am just wondering if anyone has found a solution or know what the actual diagnosis/cause of this pain is? I too am experiencing exactly this issue and have so as long as I can remember. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as this is one of the only
places that relate to what I am experiencing
