I don't know what it is.Its making me stress about it.Its not colored, nor that visible. Its inside the skin and on the jaw in front of my left ear.Its very painful and not sure what to do. I'm waiting a couple days to see if it stays or not. If so ill set an appointment. Should I worry?

Thank goodness I'm not the only one! I noticed a hard bump on the bone at the top of the jaw by my ear a few weeks ago. It was a little sore to the touch but I woke up this morning with it being noticeably sore. I started getting worried and didn't know if I should make a doctor appointment or if it will eventually go away. Has anyone seen progress? If it is or was a swollen lymphnode is it starting to go away and how long should it take?

This has been happening to me for about 9 months now. Every doctor i've seen tells me its allergies. I think its the apartment Im living in bc all the bumps started forming around the time I moved in. Its really old and my landlord sucks and proper cleaning. I just got a bunny too, thats probably another thing making them flare up. I got an allergy test two weeks ago and Im waiting for the results. I hope I dont have to get rid of my bunny.

same here! i'm sooo scaredd..i found a lump right by my left ear..and in my jaw muscle. it happened today..i had a cross country meet..i perspired and i was very cold...it might have been from a cold. i hope it's nothing serious, because i have found a lump below my breast once too...it went away though. i don't know what to say/think. i'm terrified of lumps, and my parents think that i'm paranoid for telling them each time i discover a new one.

I get this occasionally. I have it right now and it's the worst it's ever been. It's very painful to the point I considered going to the ED last night. I saw my dr today and he thinks it an irritated TMJ. He looked in my ear and nostril and noted seeing the swelling in my ear and signs of inflammation in my nostril. He put me on naproxen for the pain and swelling and said to come back if it doesn't get better or continues to get worse. I've only taken one pill so far and it helps a lot with the pain and the swelling has gone down a little but it's still veer painful and swollen. I thought for sure the dr would have said it was a lymph node and was surprised when he said it was in my TMJ but hopefully whatever it is goes away soon. He didn't seem very concerned about it so if you get this as well I wouldn't panic and think you are dying, just see your dr.

Look up TMJ. Which is not as bad as you will find. Whenever my jaw gets out of alignment and I get 'that bump' (and I make sure it isn't cold or lymph related) I go and visit my chiropractor and he helps to work it back into place. You can also see a good physiotherapist to gently work it back to where it is supposed to be.

They are lymph nodes. Look 'em up.

I also have noticed this in the last few days. Whether or not it is related, I have TMJD (temporo-mandibular joint disorder). A small tender lump (~8mm diam) was noticed a few days ago in front of my left ear, with another under the left jawline (a submandibular mass, to get technical). I'm 25, m, white, and pretty healthy.

The ENT informed me that at best it is a swollen lymph node or parotid gland (a large salivary gland) due to infection, and at worst it may be a benign tumor known as 'pleomorphic adenoma' (the most common of parotid tumors, apparently). He assured me that the likelihood of something malignant (e.g. cancer) is infinitesimally small and isn't even a symptom of smoking, which I recently quit.

I'm now on a Keflex (nuclear-grade antibiotic) 10 day course and getting a biopsy next week if it is still there.

I'm basically writing to reassure anyone else on here that this is pretty damn common, apparently. Will report back with the results of the antibiotics and possible biopsy.

Well this site definitely put my mind at ease some!! I 3 weeks ago, I was just getting over a killer cold and this very weekend ended a horrible week of gastro. (surely thanks to my babyboys daycare) At the same time I was getting over my gastro, my ears had began aching, (has not been a good start to the new year! lol) I noticed the lump that seems so similar to what you are all discussing here by rubbing the front of my ears dur to the pain, so I can most definitely see how this would be linked to fighting infection and after being ill. I will be going to the Doctors none the less on weds when I get off work and I'll be posting back what my Doctor determines! As I suggest you all do the same! Cheers fellow nymph lodes lol

I have a big lump on my jawbone by my ear and it got bigger and I am freaking out. I have no medical insurance and I just pray it is not cancer or a tumor. I tend to think it is a lymph node but it seems like it is a weird spot for it. It really had caused me no pain until I noticed it and now have messed with it and now I am so freaked out. What is it?

Hello All! I have a very similar small bump in front of my right ear directly on my jaw line. If I open up my mouth it disappears but as soon as I close my jaw, the bump returns. I just noticed it today and it is tender to the touch. I am going to get it checked out but I am not sure what type of doctor/specialist I should see. Any suggestions?

My migraine was all on the my left side of my skull. Woke up, and felt the sharp pain on top left of my skull. It started as just slight irritation(meaning the migraine) to me. Initial pain was akin to an ice pick pushing at one direct point inside my skull trying to get out. That would throb from time to time giving me migraine pain and then I would feel the pain go down to my ear. I have a swollen area directly in front of my left ear. Anyone think this is a possible spider bite induced migraine as the nodes are trying to combat whatever happened? Calling my Aunt who is a RN tomorrow. Read they go away in a few hors to 3 days. I'm on day 3 and 18hrs or so since it started.
