Ah! So glad I decided to google this! Yesterday I noticed a white, hard bump under the right side of my tongue. It hurt and I couldn't help poking at it. All of a sudden my right lymph node under my chin swelled up to the size of a small lemon! It freaked me out! The swelling went down overnight, but my face still looked a little lopsided. After I read all these posts I decided to go at the bump with a pair of tweezers. Sure enough, out popped a little stone and even as I type this, the swelling is leaving my face! Thanks, everyone!

I had the same thing, a small zit like bump under my tongue I took everyone's advice and popped it. Instant relief! It was had like a little pebble, which makes me believe it was a salivary stone. Prior to the stone, my salivary gland was very swolled for hours, then I noticed the white bump. My gland is still swolled but popping it was the best choice! Thanks for all the advice!

Thanks to everyone who has posted on this topic.  A few days ago a tooth started giving me some soreness, and when the lymph gland started getting inflamed I decided it was time to head to the dentist.  The little hard white pimple thingy in the soft tissue under my tongue was just a minor concern.  A root canal and 10 days of amoxicillin helped the tooth, but that hard white thing just wouldn't go away, and my neck glands were still tender.  I found this topic on this site and read all the comments with great interest.  Using others' experience, before surgery I rinsed with a mouthful of apple cider vinegar to get some salivation going and then used two sterile q-tips on either side of the white thing and gave it some pressure.  It popped like a zit with some mucus and blood, but most gratifyingly the hard little chunk came right out - about 1mm by 2mm.  I rinsed with 3 more mouthfuls of apple cider vinegar and spit out some thick saliva, then rinsed with listerine.  Instant relief; self surgery is awesome! :-D

I discovered this while eating dinner the other night.  I had a large red pimple like formation appear suddenly the other night under my tongue.  I went to the doctor and he gave me an antibiotic.  After only 1 day of antibiotics it has gone down in size.  FYI doctors don't know much about it.  HE told me to go see an ENT.  I haven't as of typing this as it has only been 48 hours since i found it.  It has gone down so much.  I had no pain unless I pressed really hard with the tip of my tongue.  I am not sure if it was an infection or not but the antibiotics seem to be doing the trick for me.  I figured it was a blocked saliva gland duct or something.  As reading the previous posts here I won't spend the extra money for the ENT but will watch it closely if it doesn't disappear by the time the antibiotics are gone then i will go see the ENT.  A dentist is great for teeth related issues not all oral issues.  The doctor is the best bet. The antibiotics i was prescribed  is IC PENICILLIN VK 500 MG TABLET. They gave me a script for 30 pills and I take 3 a day.  I didn't do any research when i discovered it I went straight to Urgent Care.  Hope this helps.

Good NEWS!!! You will survive. You may have a Salivary duct stone. They are crystallized minerals in the ducts that drain the salivary glands.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors

Saliva (spit) is produced by the salivary glands in the mouth. The chemicals in saliva can crystallize into a stone that can block the salivary ducts.

When saliva cannot exit a blocked duct, it backs up into the gland, causing pain and swelling of the gland.

There are three pairs of major salivary glands:

  • The two largest are the parotid glands, one in each cheek over the jaw in front of the ears.

  • Two submandibular glands are at the back of the mouth on both sides of the jaw.

  • Two sublingual glands are under the floor of the mouth.

Salivary stones most often affect the submandibular glands, but they can also affect the parotid glands.

Signs and tests

An examination of the head and neck by the health care provider or dentist shows one or more enlarged, tender salivary glands. The doctor may be able to feel the stone during examination.

X-rays, ultrasound, or CT scan of the face can confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment

The goal is to remove the stone.

Drink lots of water and use sugar-free lemon drops to increase the saliva, which may remove the stone. Massaging the gland with heat may help.

The doctor or dentist may be able to push the stone out of the duct. In some cases, the stone may need to be surgically cut out or reduced to small fragments using extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.

Expectations (prognosis)

Salivary duct stones are uncomfortable, but not dangerous. The stone is usually removed with only minimal discomfort.

If the person has repeated stones or infections, the affected salivary gland may need to be surgically removed.

I have suffered with these nearly my whole life, they can be surgically removed if they are too painful but my dentist doesn't really care about it anymore. Good oral hygiene and healthy foods should stop the swelling, and not biting your tongue onto the inner cheek or swelling should also stop it being so painful. If the swelling regularly pops (like mine used to) i would see a doctor, because they can remove it then (and were going to remove mine when i was 6 years old but it went away). They can grow back, as did mine. I suggest no one to panic, they are nasty to live with but we are all going through the same thing and they shouldn't worry you :-) xxxxxxx Good luck!

I had endoscopic sinus surgery eleven days ago.  I think the breathing tube caused my problems.  The spot you are all mentioning was huge and raw when I woke up in the recovery room.  I didn't think much of it and as I healed so did my salivatory duct.  Then suddenly today my jaw swelled up and I noticed the bump was "mad" again.  I had been noticing a constant, slight, rotten egg smell for the last eighteen hours as well (turns out it is common during this part of the healing process).  So, I called my ENT and went in.  He informed me that I have a blocked salivatory gland, gave me some antibiotics (just to be safe), and told me to get the saliva flowing, massage the swelling (hard) towards the corner of my mouth, and put some heat on there if it makes it feel better.  I have started filling up that duct (uncomfortable!), massaging it back to normal and repeating.  I hope it gets that stone moving!

I am really looking forward to this thing shifting down to the point I can express it myself!  But, I thought I would tell you, the ENT really doesn't see this as a big deal either.  So, (while I am not telling you to avoid medical advice) you might be better off trying to push that little guy outta there yourself and keep that deductible in your pocket!  Good luck!

I had this exact situation happen to me. A few days ago I was eating some fruit and the left side of my mouth tensed up and became very painful... I couldn't eat anymore. My left gland on my neck began to swell up and everytime I ate for the next few days, my gland would swell up to the size of a golfball. It was horrible and painful. Just yesterday, I noticed a white hard bump underneath my tongue on the gland. I read this and decided to try to pop it. After a few tries, a small white hard piece game flying out across, as well as a lot of saliva/pus. The relief was immediate. I highly recommend doing this!!! I'm just a few minutes after doing this now and the swelling is starting to go down.

So thankful for this!!!!

oh my god I just felt this weird pain in my mouth and felt something hard in the corner of my mouth under my tongue, came here and read this thread and went back to the mirror, after a minute poking around at it, what do you know, out pops this weird yellowish pea sized thing, it's seriously gross, and smells really bad :b

I have had a swollen gland or something under my chin in the same area for a couple of weeks, figured it was a cold until now? could it be from the same thing? perhaps more stones?

best go doctors.

One morning, while I was in class I randomly began to feel uncomfortable and sensitive on the left side of my throat and jaw... so when I got home I checked and I had a little whitehead on the string connecting the bottom of my tongue to the bottom... so I looked it up and found this thread, and decided to do what others did and try and pop it. It didn't LOOK like a rice crispy at all, it was a tiny circular thing, as though I'd popped a zit and the pus stayed in the shape of the surface. So I applied a little bit of pressure on it and it just squeezed out... it's barely the size of a hair, it's really small. Pain instantly went away, not uncomfortable anymore. I rinsed with mouthwash afterwards just to be safe.

So anybody who randomly began feeling this weird feeling in their throat as if it was connected all the way to the mouth, thats because the gland was blocked and the weird feeling is from the buildup inside. So just pop it out and continue living your life... :P

Please don't post if you don't have anything to contribute.  I've been scrolling and scrolling and all I find are posts by people with the same story and condition...occasionally finding a post with advice.  Of course we all have the same condition. That's why we're here! I don't mean to be strict, but I'm just trying to find some relevant information and be on my way.

*Tip* Read the recent posts and see if someone has already posted something that is generally the idea and content that you planned on posting.  If you see it......you should probably hold back and not post anything.  I know you want to chime in and give your story, but it's just not gonna help anyone if it doesn't have the slightest bit of helpful information.

Ironically, my post here has nothing to do with these tongue bumps, but I thought I should shed some light on effective blogging technique.  Good luck!
