I am a 17 year old male. I have had PR for over a week now. I was diagnosed by my doctor yesterday. i have put multiple creams on myself at a time for anti-itch and skin health. I plan on laying outside tomorrow to try to kill it off. I am drinking lots of water and eating healthy, although I do run a lot. Does anyone think this could be involved with certain sexual activities?

From personal experience it doesnt have anything to do with any kind of sex. I even had sex while with PR. he's fine. Go out in the sun or to a tanning bed. How bad is it?

Dont panic. I was misdiagnosed multiple times and have tried every treatment. GO TANNING! Although I'm a guy, I went 2 times a week and saw results instantly while getting a nice base :) Also avoid taking hot showers. Hope this helps

Hi I had PR and it's gone now ;)  I used Antihistamine (allergy tablets) + E45 itch relief cream + Aveeno oatmeal cream, and now it's gone, all I have left are darker then my skin patches on my stomach and chest.
Will tanning make it go away? Thanks ;)

YOU MUST GO TANNING!

I was recently diagnosed with pityriasis rosea.  I saw two doctors who both quickly knew what my condition was, but were able to offer no treatment other than the usual antihistimines, steroid creams and calamine lotion (which do next to nothing for the symptoms and absolutely nothing for the condition itself).  The rash itself was painful, embarassing, and maddeningly itchy.  I was miserable and very depressed at the thought of having to deal with this for 6-12 weeks.

Then I read online that many people got relief from sitting out in the sun.  Being too vain to leave the house with this horrible rash covering the entire trunk of my body, I asked my doctor about a tanning salon.  Of course he advised against it (what doctor reccomends tanning?) but I decided I had nothing to lose and went anyway.  The results were DRAMATIC.  The morning after I went (7 minutes level 3) I woke up and found the rash to be about halfway healed.  I have gone twice in 4 days and the rash is almost gone!  All of the marks have faded, some comepletely gone while others are peeling a bit, but NO NEW OUTBREAKS!  Probably 70-80% healed at this point.  I feel like a new person, like I got my body back!  I want to share this information with as many people as possible.  Doctors will tell you there is nothing you can do for this condition, you just have to let it run its course, but this is not true!

Try tanning.  I never went tanning in my life and have no plans to continue after this ordeal is over, but I am so happy I decided to take matters in my own hands and take a chance.  It really worked for me and I pray that some of you out there suffering from this affliction will give it a try.  Good luck.

I know this was posted a long time ago but I hope this helps anyone else who comes across this blog with PR. I used BURDOCK - 2X 475 MG three times a day. My PR was GONE completely within a week and has not come back in 2 months. I had been suffering with it for over 8 weeks so I am convinced this did the trick!! Cheap and simple and WORKED!!

I have had this for weeks now.. my stomach was covered completely then that went away in a couple weeks- now my back, arms, legs, hairline, and neck are all covered in tiny little bumps- these itch SEVERE. it wakes me up in the night and everything- ive been washing with my daughters aveeno body wash and using aveeno cream after showering- i was prescribed steriod cream which took away the rash on my stomach but it has now moved to the rest of my body- its driving me insane and i cant take this anymore and im sick of doctors- tanning seems to be the only thing i see that works. but im unsure if i should use lotion while in the tanning bed or outside? or do you just go in dry?

Im a 20 year old female who was just diagnosed yesterday but I started noticing itchy spots a week ago. Ive been tanning 3 times since and it looks like this nightmare should be over at 2-3 weeks. I am also a model as another girl said on the forum and Ive noticed a funny pattern in the people who get this mysterious disease.

All illness stems from the mind and they say that even acne pimples are caused by the person "trying to hide ugliness" I guess its like the law of attraction- the more time and energy you put into what you DONT want is probably what you are gonna get(x10). Women and men(generally ages 20-30) who are overly concerned with their appearance seem to contract the disease. I know I am vain and insecure even though I shouldnt be, which is why Im looking forward to growing out of this phase, where looks arent everything. I have always been worried; needing my skin to be perfect all my life. Now I can see the irony in it.  During a modeling contract in Shanghai I was having a recurring dream about looking at my teeth in the mirror while they were all crooked and falling out. Dream dictionary.com said that those dreams symbolizes your anxieties about your looks.

Remember that nothing is coincidence and everything that happens should be taken as a valuable learning experience. Everything is a symbol for something else that you need to figure out. So far this has been fairly traumatizing with the dinosaur skin and the intense, excruciating itch that wakes you up at night. I find peace in a warm bath, setting up my laptop to watch a movie I dont even notice any itch!

Learn to love yourself unconditionally and be ready to deal with whatever comes your way. Remember, we are spiritual beings who are having a human experience. The body is only a learning device.

Even though there seems to be such small and repetitive information about PR on the net, it makes me feel better to read these posts and know that Im not the only one! I particularly like the one who said her case disappeared much quicker than expected.

Good luck to everyone xoxo

Just wanted to let everyone know whats been working for me. The rash started initially on my back and spread to my chest and stomach until I was covered in a thick bright red rash(And so itchy I would medicate myself to even sleep). The worst of it only lasted a few days before it started to fade but then started spreading down my legs all over my thighs and ass, then down my calves and onto my feet aswell as my arms and my hands/fingers/palms and even my ears/neck. The worst itching stayed on my core even as it started to dry out and heal. Now, just passed the 2 week mark and the rash has completely cleared from my core and chest leaving some peeling but beautiful, radiant, soft baby-like skin. It like I shed off a few layers of skin! Its glowing!

Through the two weeks I was taking benadryl and using aveeno anti-itch lotion as well as cortisone cream and taking 2 oatmeal based baths daily. I just saw my family doctor on monday and she prescribed me some betnovate ointment which Im assuming is helping, but I give ALL the credit to TANNING and HEAD AND SHOUDLERS (anti-itch for scalp) SHAMPOO as a body wash (use as bubble bath and spot treatment on itchy spots leaving on for 5 minutes) which leaves your skin feeling tingly and cool with no noticeable itch for atleast an hour after your bath letting you SLEEP at night!! (thank god). And then as an everyday moisturizer and pre-tanning lotion I use aveeno skin relief moisturizing cream with oatmeal, shea+coco butter and menthol. Dont even bother wasting your money on anti-itch creams and cortisone creams or even calamine lotion, they dont work and they just make you feel even more uncomfortable (calamine lotion drys on your body like paint). I am one hundred percent proud to say that I will have cured myself within 3 three TOPS. I knew when I was diagnosed I would NOT be one of those suckers who walks around with a head-toe rash for 3 months or even 9 months to 2 years and some people on this thread have said. I guess some people couldnt care less but not only is summer only a week away, and not only do I do random modeling jobs but I dance at a strip clubs on weekends and my body brings home the bread. No skin rash on earth is gonna take that away from me. I hope that every young person diagnosed with pityriasis logs onto this site and reads this post. Cuz I know that even dealing with it for 2 weeks seems like too long but the best advice I can give you is do as I say AND do not just mope around the house, keep your self busy and your mind off your rash and you will have less trouble. No hot water-no soap-no itching- use your common sense. Dermatologists and ER's are not necessary for this disease, but a walk-in clinic is recommended to be SURE that is pityriasis rosea. The first night I gave the rash a second though, I went online and I thought for SURE I had scabies!! I was crying and freaking out because there is an enlarged picture of the 8-legged parasite involved in that disease. But it wasnt- another reason why you shouldnt rely on the internet for diagnosis LOL. Good luck everyone! My name is Rebecca, 20 year old white girl and I beat PR!

hi everyone, I am happy to say that finally my dark dry patches that I had on my body after PR cleared are gone. I used lotions on my body and, whats more important i think, didn't worry about them too much. I used lotions for dry skin and now I'm completely healed. I have some dry skin inder my armpits, but obviously that was expected since it's under the arpits obviously.
DON'T GIVE UP PEOPLE.

I also have the same problem. Only it didn't go after 6 weeks. I've had it since I was about 6 and I am now 18. It keeps going and coming and has improved since i was 6 but the rashes aren't going. What do you do when it becomes a problem that won't go away? I have already seen more than 20 dermatologists and no-one seems to have a cure for it. However, one doctor recommended eczema medication and it helped with the itchiness.

Hey, I'm 12, I know I shouldn't be on here, but I'm really desperate. xD I think I have this condition, and the rash/spots go over my chest, some on my stomach, some on my neck and uper arms, and on my upper legs too. They're itchy at night and when I start scratching them I'm going to the doctors Tommorow. I'm really scared. It looks a LITTLE like an alergy, right? I just want to know if i do have it. The rash is like lumps/spots, but I have a big spot on my leg, where the outside is red, then in the middle is white, and then theres a small red dot in the middle.
