Hello, here's my experience, male 47. Mallet toes (both nr 2) on both feet were corrected using so called smart toes - tytan/nikel implants, no Kirshner wire were sticking out from a wound. There was no single sting of pain during surgery and over the 6 weeks of recovery. The only nuisance were these awkward post operative sandals that had to be worn 6 weeks (non-negotiable). Nevertheless, I was walking a few hours during the day in the day 4 or 5, driving a car in the day 10 (small distances but still). The whole thing was much less of a pain that I feared, the result is pretty good, toes look good since are straight (at last!). No swelling, no pain, nothing. Try to google out these implants, higly recommend this route Vs K-wire (Kirshner). Good luck with your toe projects!
I have had Hammertoe surgery 6 weeks ago, I have had the pins and stitches removed but I am still in alot of pain, I am still wearing the Post Op comfy shoe they supplied and the thought of wearing anything else seems to be a long way down the line. I am not sure I would of gone ahead with surgery if I knew it was going to be this painful.and a long time for recovery.
I'm a 24 year old female who had hammer toe surgery on 4th toe left foot and 5th toe right foot 4 weeks ago.
The surgery was fine, I only had local anesthetic so was awake. Felt a bit of pushing and pulling but that was it. The numbing needles however were very painful! After surgery I was given two special shoes that were pretty unattractive. I went home and didn't feel anything at all for around 4 hours. Then the pain started. Horrible throbbing and burning and my toes kept twitching which was horrendous. Also I had to crawl to the toilet because my toes were in agony whenever I tried to walk!
After around 4/5 days I was able to walk a bit with crutches but was still very painful. In the second week I was walking about much better with very little pain unless I knocked it.
Just had stitches removed and toes are healing really nicely. Getting the pins removed in a week.
