Random itching all over my body

Hi all
I'm 22 and female, and for quite a long time I have been suffering from itching all over my body, mainly during the night. It will occur almost every single night and it is so irritating that I can never sleep!
The only allergy I know of is of a certain body wash that I once used...but that was a few years ago and quickly stopped using it. I have had the itching for as many years as I can remember, but it has always been extremely rare and only seems to occur at night, just when I'm trying to sleep. (Typical.) However, last year when I moved house, I suffered from it slightly more often (roughly every few weeks?). And in March this year, my boyfriend and I moved into a flat together, and since then, I have had it very nearly every single night. I have tried sleeping tablets (just the over-the-counter type) but with no luck. Doesn't matter how tired I am.
I have used the same body wash and shampoo for years and like i said, it used to pretty much never occur, so I ruled out allergies to that. The same applies to washing powder for my clothes etc, and my diet has always been the same.
It only seems to occur at night, and it's mainly on my legs, but it does occur all over (from head to toe!). I haven't ever had any kind of rashes or visible problems. I sometimes apply moisturiser, which can help a little but not always. I try to avoid scratching at all costs!
Erm what else...my boyfriend has never seemed to suffer from it (we share a bed). One thing I've heard that can cause itching is mould, and there is a little of it in my bedroom. However, when we moved in, we slept in a different room, and also, why would I have itched last year when I lived in a different house??
ARGH every night is almost guarunteed to result in no sleep at all...it's getting me down so much and I feel so exhausted. Funnily enough though....I usually find I can sleep during the daytime! I try to avoid it so I won't mess up my sleeping pattern, but it's the only time the itching isn't too bad.

Ma'am, it is VERY irresponsible to suggest that bodily itching has anything to do with cancer to a young woman, causing all kinds of horror. That's just severely frightening and your son is an extremely non-typical and rare case, and he more than likely itched for any number of reasons that had absolutely nothing to do with his illness.

If you have dry skin that might be your problem. I have dry skin myself and live somewhere with dry air. Not too long ago I started getting a thing where some nights, my ankles and the tops of my feet would itch like crazy! My doctor said that was itchy dry skin, so I found an easy solution to that: go to the shower and run water over the itchy area, then go back to bed without drying off. The water on the skin moistens that part of the bed enough to calm down the skin there.
Now I'm starting to experience the same kind of issue you describe. I plan to try running a humidifier in the evening, with my half of the bed open. Hopefully that will help prevent this.

I've been trying the humidifier, and so far it seems to help.
There is actually form of breast cancer that causes itching. Additionally, there are a number of other serious diseases and major organ issues that can contribute to body itching. Itching can also be as simple as stress or allergies. For many, this seemingly trivial irritation is what gets them to go to the doctor and have the necessary tests run to either save their lives or greatly improve their quality of life.
i have the same the the pain in the head and warmth before the itching
what did you find out about this
it could be scabies if it is especially itchy at night
Sounds like spider bites. I've gotten them and the spider is a little clear spider with a yellow tint.

For pinprick itching especially at night, people should be aware of the possibility of bird mites. See birdmites.org for information.
I think this is my problem too.. I was supposed to be gluten frew but I was eating for like 2 yrs... but what I can't figure out is why my bf is also itching and it started when he moved in. You might be allergic to dust mites
i have dealt with this all over itching for 20 years. What seems to bring it on most is stress; unpleasant memories or reacting negatively to outside stimulus. Just awful. I don't take any regular medications or stick to any particular diet, tho I've found that during hayfever season when taking Benadryl, the itching is less. Granted, Benadryl makes me very sleepy, which, as a side note, reduces stress. A 'cure all' would be a God Send, however, I have found that one small step goes a long way. Deep breathing, focusing on your 'happy place', wherever that is, and a dash of Benadryl if the first 2 don't do it. Good thoughts to you : ) Take Care
