I have been having the same issue, mine starts typically in the middle of the night, top lip feels sun burned and itchy, a little rough to the touch. This eventually leads to angular cheilitis. It was getting worse with each episode. I did NOT go to the doc because they are quick to prescribe without testing. I speculated it was caused by yeast/fungal but couldn't be sure. Luckily, I was mentioning my issue to a friend who was undergoing ozone treatment and he suggested I try ozone, or H2O2 treatment, same thing just ozone costs more and you have to go to a clinic. This got my interested and I read the book about it (linked below). I've been on peroxide for two months now, not a sign of infection returning. This has actually cured my lip problems and I couldn't be more thankful! As always, research research research, but for anyone who feels they have tried it all, and are sick of doctors thinking they can solve all aliments by prescription drugs, read the book and make up your own mind. It worked for me! Hope it works for you too!

I have the same darn thing. Eight months for me also. All kinds of testing and lots of meds to try. I also have staph and am doing antibiotics to keep it a bay... sort of. If I back off by one pill I have a reaction within a couple of hours, red rash spreads and more crust. How are you now? Find an answer that fixed you? I'm going crazy.

Research h2o2 therapy. Read the one minute cure. It cleared up everything for me and is cheap and easy. i highly suggest researching and making the best decision for your own health.

Oh my gosh... almost a year working at this problem. Hyperbaric chamber or HBOT has fixed this nightmare. After a million visits to Doctors and tons of money on stuff that didn't work, such a blessing to say oxygen is huge! I needed more that 10 visits to completely heal but while I'm waiting im using an oxygen machine that has transformed my lips to 93% better. My staff infection was real bad and I think that is why I need more treatment to get all the way into the damaged tissue.Praying for everyone who is going through this, the pain the embarrassment the loss of time spent hiding and just feeling lousy, no energy. There is hope so hang on. Crazy but still no answer to why. Originally Oral allergy syndrome, chilitis. Tested for everything yeast, parasites, bacteria, fungal, mites, lymes, allergies, biopsy ( probably how I got the staff infection). I just want to say I share your pain, relied on Jesus to get through the days I didn't think I could. Please check if hyperbaric is available to you. It's expensive but fantastic. The ozone is a way cheaper way to go. Do it first, then if no results see if oxygen in a mask is available, for major healing the HBOT is the way to go. Praying for healing for all who suffer with this crazy mess! Oh... Silvadene cream was huge for pain, usually used for burn victims. Good luck and God bless.

I too suffer recently with the EXACT symptoms. Though the severity is to the point that the corners of my mouth crack BAD. Teeny blisters easily break on the ridge of both top and bottom lips. Here's the difference between my situation and yours: I replaced smoking traditional tobbacco with vaping with a mod. I've never had an allergic reaction such as this. The only thing that helps is Vit E stick and a product called Herpecil L. Once the blisters appearvand break, use the vit E until all the blisters break, and lips feel like a "giant scab". Follow up with the Herpecin L once they start to heal. You can also apply a SMALL amount of Vascilene to help seal it. NOTE: Herpecin L burns a little. Thats why I suggest that you wait until the blisters break and start to heal (a couple days). Take ibuprofen for pain and reduce swelling. Bear in mind, I'm suffering severely as I write this. It's still trial and error

Just now seeing this I'm going to the exact same thing for a year... did you find out what it is?

I feel so much better knowing I'm not the only one going through this. My lips have been awful and painful for 2 months. I also do get cold sores, but the derm doesn't think it is. She thinks it's an allergic reaction. I finally got a biopsy and a culture done. I will let you guys know what the result is. I'm currently using mupirocin. I took Cemaphexin for 10 days, but it didn't help much. *btw I've had impetigo about 6 months ago and it went away withing a week with the same topical and oral medication. This time I took the oral medicine alone and now I'm taking the topical ointment alone with aquaphor. Hoping it heals soon because this is so awful and I've been a hermit.

Hi there,

How is your condition now? I have recurring staph which results in itchy spots that come and go but never forever. Same with my lips.

Hi, my heart goes out to all the posters on this board. I have been suffering these symptoms for about two months now (lips swelling, burning feeling, oozing liquid, crusts forming, skin not healed when crusts fall off, lips peeling, a seemingly endless cycle! Swabs for oral herpes, impetigo, and shingles all negative, blood tests showed low iron, folate, Vitamin D and magnesium, so have been taking supplements for those, with no improvement.

I wonder whether anyone has found a link between what is happening with their lips, and metal tooth fillings? I realise that my problems started just after two fillings broke, and I have not been able to pay to have them fixed. Both were metal fillings. Apparently candida infections can be fed by the presence of metals. So today I'm hoping to buy some anti-fungal cream to use until I can get a dental appointment. Will keep you updated to see if this combination helps my lips to heal. Working in customer service, I am well and truly fed up with looking like the victim of a botched collagen job!

My sincere best wishes and prayers for you all.

I have this same condition. Did you ever get it cleared up? I was wondering if really was a staph infection and if so what antibiotic did you take.

Thanks for any help you can recommended!!!

Hey, I don’t know what it is, but I have only a guess of what it is. It might be a bacterial infection known as impetigo, mostly because of the yellow crust and the itchiness. Impetigo is also known to form around the mouth. You should consolt a doctor first, and they might prescribe you a cream/ ointment specifically used for impetigo.
