So, I went to see my doctor, but only his nurse practitioner was available. She suspected I'd developed an allergy to an ingredient in one or more of my lip balms. She recommended Aquaphor and Bacitracin--both of which are made from hypoallergenic materials. I stopped using the Bacitracin pretty quickly because I thought (and still do) that the skin peeling off of my lips was just dead skin, but not infected, and therefore there was no need for the Bacitracin. But the Aquaphor - what a life saver! My lips were significantly improved in just 8-12 hours, and the next day were mostly healed! Two days later they're good as new. Cheap, OTC, available everywhere, and it worked great for me!
I'm gradually phasing in the use of my various brands of lip balms so that if any of them causes a recurrence of the previous condition, I'll know which one(s) to avoid.
I hope you find what works for you soon too.
Went to dermatologist, she said it was probably an allergy to something and gave me a prescription ointment. The ointment has triamcinolone acetonide in it. And yes it did help but the problem is, is that it keeps coming back when I stop using it. It just keep reoccurring if I don’t regularly use the ointment... also even with the ointment, I feel like my lips have never gone back to the way they looked before this all started (I think 2 years ago) they look kinda grey. I also stopped using any lipstick/lipbalm, I only put vaseline or the ointment on them. I feel like lipstick/lipbalm triggers it or makes it worse.
Try boiling some water with garlic onion and cloves. Let it infuse. Also some warm salt water separately . then along the ridge where the lip meets the gum line a cloth of some sort that will stay in the ridge and is comfortable Then, trying not to move the cloth or paper, gently swish some of the salt water first. If it stings it's working and might just have small sores (hidden canker sores) where you lips always touch your gums. Then gently swish the garlic onion clove infused water (Warning the first day I did this my lip swelled up so much but the clove in the water soothe the pain. But now went down and is now just healing) I also but some neomycin and antifungal cream around my mouth and lips . Hope it works ! After three years I'm finally getting relief just figuring it out myself Doctors were sending me around and around and had said it was seborrheic dermatitis from stress ....Nope.. P.S. I'm not a doctor. This just happened to be my remedy. I also was stupid did the warhead challenge a few years back. And remember tucking them in my lip
The strip of paper or fabric along the ridge is important and the infused water which is oily seeps in the paper. And separates the gum from the lip at the same time giving you constant treatment. I leave the paper in while I sleep so the remedy works overnight and isn't compromised by dirty saliva.
