I'm 27 and I've had Epidermoid cysts popping up on my scrotum since I was 18. They pop up sometimes after manscaping (shaving). I didn't have insurance (still don't) and have been removing one or two of them every year, by myself for almost 10 years. I've got it down to a science. I'm not recommending anyone do this, and I'm not a doctor, but here's how I do it:

***WARNING: I'VE NEVER DONE THIS WITH A CYST THAT WAS BIGGER THAN A FEW MILIMETERS (1/4" MAX). BIGGER CYST = BIGGER WOUND = BIGGER RISK***

Before starting, I make sure it's an Epidermoid cyst and not a Sebaceous cyst. Sebecaous cysts are infected (I believe) and self removal can risk spreading the infection. Epidermoid cysts develop because of damage to the hair folicle below the skin and are typically pain free. First, I shave my scrotum 100% for easy accesss and so the band-aids don't rip out hair. I use a Micro-Touch trimmer. I then take a regualar shower, but before I get out I clean my hands and entire crotch area thoroughly with antibacterial soap. I get out of the shower and dry myself as usual. I take a freshly cleaned washrag, and clean a small area of the rag (roughly 6"x6") with antibacterial soap. Next, I use sterilzed gauze (available at CVS) pour some Isopropyl alchol on it, and clean my scrotum (just like the doctor does before injections). I then vigorously rub the washrag in circles (using the part cleaned with AB soap) on the skin above the cyst until the skin is removed and the cyst wall is exposed. Left hand holding the scrotum with left index finger pushing below cyst so it's isolated close to the surface. The skin will be red (with some blood) the cyst wall is white. If most of the cyst is close to the surface, I try to pry it out with  my fingernails while squeezing below (don't stop squeezing, keep reading until I talk about blood clots). This sometimes removes the entire cyst.  If it's deeper in the skin, I have a pair of clean toenail clippers nearby (freshly cleaned and soaking in a glass of Isopropyl alcohol), which I use to put a very tiny (pinhole sized) slice into the center of the cyst wall. A cottage cheese like fluid will emerge which I squeeze out completely and wipe away with sterilized gauze. It will feel like I'm done, but the cyst wall will fill up with fluid again if not removed. I then take the toe nail clippers (which have been put back into the glass of alcohol to stay sterilized) and grab (not clip) onto the cyst wall. Tweezers would also work but I'm good with the clippers. I gently grab the cyst wall pull slowly and carefully so it doesn't rip (like trying to remove a sticker from an item without it tearing). I keep squeezing below the cyst while I do this, because once the cyst is completely removed, blood will fill the area where the cyst was. This can cause a clot, which is a whole other issue that I have no experience with.  Sometimes the cyst will have a small piece of skin holding onto it like a root that I need to use the clippers to sever. The root is not white but flesh colored, and not always there. Once removed I keep squeezing (I don't let go from the time I start pulling, not even for a second) and wiping away blood with gauze until it completely stops bleeding. I then apply Neosporin and a band-aid, which I change every 8 hours or so, for 2 or 3 days. I don't shower or bath for at least 36 hours, and I don't do any physical activity for at least 72 hours. I don't have sex (even with a girl I know and trust) for at least one week. That includes oral. The human mouth is full of bacteria.  I usually do this on a Friday night, because I don't even like to leave my home while the wounds are fresh. It may seem like I go above a beyond required safety limits, but I'm not risking castration or worse because of infection. Infection is the number one killer in hospitals, that is why they discharge you ASAP after surgery. You're safer at home. Just sitting on a wet seat or bench with these wounds can ruin/end your life. I'd rather just sacrifice a weekend and be abstinent for a week.

Like I said, I don't recommend anyone do this, I'm just telling my story. I'm actually squeamish and could never perform this surgery on another, but somehow I can do it to myself with little issue.

I am suffering from multiple cyst in testicles. These are not painful. While diagnosing the same it is advised that it is not a serious matter. In addition, I am also suffering from prostate with Volume 76 C.C . Besides this I have back pain. Pain in also both side . As of yet no cream or any other treatment has had any effect. urologists so far not suggested for surgery. Urin from is good . Some other urologist has prescribed me exercise, to take two medicines Ciplox 500 for 3 weeks & urimax 04. I've just started and will have to wait and see for any results. I am 60 years old & loosing my weight Any good suggestions as to what causes this and how to treat it.

Hi everyone, wrote here a few months ago. I have these too, I'm 33 now and had them since 17. I have maybe 20 of them, some bigger than others. I went a few times and took a couple out but I got really tired of them and decided to face my fears and get them all out in a private clinic. In 30 min dr took out 14 of them mostly the big ones..it wasnt too painful, went well. Stitches should fall out on their own. I'm feeling good right now mentally. I think its worth it, whatever it costs you for a surgeoun to take them out. The peace of mind is the greatest reward of all. Good luck to all!

Well fellas... enough was enough. Suffered with these fuckers since high school and at 28, just couldn't look at them anymore. Definitely feel for you guys that have a grip of them. I only had 6 of them 4 small 2 about pea sized. I went on amazon and ordered Dr. Numb anorectal cream and a box of disposable scalpels, spent about $12 on everything. Applied the cream to my desert eagle, after a half hour couldn't feel sh*t. The scalpels are awesome cause they are super sterile in individually wrapped packages, if you remove these in stages use a new scalpel each time. Clean the area with alcohol and cotton pad. Pinch a f****r between your finger and thumb and scrape a little X on the skin until it feels like your scrapping against a stone, let the scalpel do the work so you do press too hard and risk breaking the thing. Give a squeeze from the back and the whole thing should pop out. Pinch with a paper towel for a minute and the bleeding will stop. Antibiotic cream and a bandaid. It's all done. Wink at yourself in the mirror and go pour yourself a Jameson on the rocks cause you just got a mountain off your shoulders. Good luck!

I got these bastards in my late 30s, I am 42 now. Maybe a dozen small ones and a large one every 3-4 months.

I wash the hell out of my hands, and sack. Find a very fine safety pin and heat it with a lighter till it is red hot then cool it in alcohol.

Pinch the skin to the sides of the cyst, not the cyst itself. This should cause it to be very prominent on the skin but not trying to crush it.

Examine the cyst, it should be fairly obvious where the over skin layer is and the little basted lives. Gently insert the needle into the side of the bump, but not at the base, and do not just jab it in there. There will be resistance but if you gently increase the pressure you should be able to just pierce the outside skin cover. Then pull up, might take a bit of force and angling the pin up will help. This will cause a tear in the outer skin shield.

At this point gently put a bit more force on the squeeze and you should see a white sack pop out with a root. I then use, again, sterilized cuticle clippers.

To get at the base of the ball and snip. If you use this method, you will not have much blood, 5-10 drops at most and it heals right up and does not bleed for more than 30 seconds. Make sure you use some Neosporin to keep any infection from happening.

These, are Keratin build up Cists that your body is unable to deal with as it gets confused and tries to wall them off, the “root” is the blood supply. If you don’t get the sack out it has a good chance of just healing and reforming. It is not puss unless you have tried to squeeze the hell out of and caused an infection.

If you think this is painful you must be scared of having a shaving nick as it is about the same.

I've had this same issue for a few years now. Seen a couple of doctors, one typical western doc who recommended cutting them off, and another holistic practicioner who used a special formula he made to remove a couple of larger ones.

His formula removed them with little pain, but since then several smaller cysts have grown back. Very hard little white lumps that you can't pop like most here mention.

Neither doctor knew what these were, which seems pretty odd to me, given that they seem to be so common.

I am gonna try apple cider vinegar to see if that helps. Seems like there is some kind of underlying cause I haven't seen mentioned. Getting rid of them is one thing, but what actually causes these to form? ANyone know?

I'm curious, you mention these are Keratin build up cysts your body is unable to deal with. Any idea what causes them and how to prevent them? thanks!

It amazes me that no one in the medical field seems to know what causes this seemingly very common issue or how to treat it. I had a similar experience with a western medical doc 'could cut, but may just grow back', and holistic doc didn't know what they were.

Thanks for sharing your story.
