I had started using liquid dong quai I took 15 drops 3 times day and it cleared it up. However the bottle is small and does not last long. It is $11.00 for a small bottle and it works but you have to use it a lot so it does not last long. I got another bottle and used less so it would last longer and it did not help, cutting down on the dosage I saw no results. Liqud form works faster but the pills will last longer so I am going to get the pills. I am also going to try acupunture the shampoo is harsh and I used it to often so I have had hair loss. I cannot see it on my scalp but it itches and my face breaks out and gets rashy. Hopefully acupunture and the dong quai pills will help so I can stop using the shampoo.

Okay, I have suffered, and I mean literally suffered with this mess for at least 10 years now. It began as weeping and a waterery, sticky substance, ear sores, swelling, drying, and my God, the itch will make you just want to kill yourself. As many of you, I have been to many doctors, specialist, dermatologist, internet home remedies and it has been one prescription after the other, with absolutely nothing working. Doesn't even slow it down. I am so embarrassed, as I seem to constantly have my fingers in my ears scratching continuously, which I know is not a good thing. Someone please help me! There has to be a cure for this, or at least something that will actually relieve the condition. I am lucky that my condition is limited to the insides of my ears, but I am so afraid that it could spread to my scalp, face, etc.

Hi there I use a product called Nizoral shampoo 2 percent. No it's not a cure but it does get rid of the symptoms for a long time. I have found that reducing my intake of sugar reduces the symptoms. This includes the reduction of carbohydrates and milk products containing lactose.

I rotate Dermatop and Protopic. Protopic is the stronger of the two. Anyone still using corticoids should switch to these.

I scalp SD. I have used Loprox shampoo in the past and has been very effective. Over the counter stuff really doesn't work for me. Lately I have been using sauve dry shampoo for styling my hair. Miraculously, it has been helping my SD by controlling my oil production on my hair. Please try it. It has been a God send that I came across by accident!!!

Hello, for anyone experiencing seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp, here is something I have tried on my own after spending $85 between a Dr visit and 2 prescriptions ($32 for a 4oz shampoo to be exact) to no avail. I also had seborrheic dermatitis on the chest, back, arms, and lower legs between the knees and ankles. Not sure why the dermatitis didn't show up on upper legs other than the fact that I had an outdoor job in the sun for a while where only the lower legs were exposed and had a few minor sunburn episodes. Now for what I personally tried on my own as a remedy: clear plastic cling wrap like Saran Wrap. I simply wrapped up my head in the plastic cling wrap making sure that the affected red area of the scalp was not exposed to air for 36-48 hours, like over a weekend. If I had to visit friends, I had to explain that I was well aware that it wasn't Halloween night, and they understood. All of the work that the scalp was trying to do to fix the problem naturally was finally allowed to happen, because the condition causing the dermatitis could no longer cause the air to rob the skin of it's moisture. After removing the plastic cling wrap after at least 36 hrs, I shampooed and rinsed, hoping for the best. Once the hair and scalp dried, I checked and rechecked to see if the redness, roughness, and scaling was gone and stayed away, and it was. 95% of the dandruff also stopped. After almost a week, I rub my hand back and forth on my hair and scalp to test to see if the "snowy season" is done, and it is for the most part. Hmm--expensive Dr and prescriptions vs a little cling wrap is huge savings. I will post again if anything changes. Otherwise, no updated news is good news. Other areas have improved somewhat, so I'm using the remaining prescription cream to deal with that.

I'm not an expert and I'm going through the same problems. However, I've read up on the subject and there are various reasons for patchy hair loss. Recently, I read where BIOTIN strenghens hair and nail growth. Bought some and will begin taking it in the next couple of days. And yes, its worth a try because, along with patcy hair loss, my finger nails and toe nails break easily and get brittle with the slightest growth. This may be a clue to what's lacking in my system.
