The standard prescription for Seb-Derm is Ratio-Ectosone Scalp 0.1%, generically Betamethasone 17-Valerate 0.1%. However you might get the same results without the nasty side-effects from scrubbing the affected skin with skin-friendly Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulphate). This works as long as the Epsom Salt permeates the skin. Yes. it make the hair stringy and stiff and that's why I use Alcohol for the scalp, which however keeps the dandruff to a minimum for only a day or so.

ALL immune system related "diseases" are highly connected to what you put into your body...I'd advise you to work towards a whole foods diet, and try to eliminate ALL chemicals, additives, preservatives, and processed foods from your life. For example...I ONLY use Ivory soap, in small amounts, just enough to keep my hair and body clean and dry...You just gotta find the right balance of how long to keep the soap on your skin in order to get it clean, but not too long to dry you out too much... Trust your own gut more than anything doctors tell you, and your own experimentation with different foods and what not to figure out what is hurting you. Most of the food you probably eat are processed and therefore FULL of man-made additives and chemicals, etc, that have no business being in our bodies.

Good luck to you, I feel for ya ;-)

I'm 66 and have had seb derm ever since adolescence when a doctor told me that if I keep it controlled on my head I'll be better able to control it all over my body. I faithfully wash my hair every other day. If I miss one day my scalp will start itching fiercely. When I scratch, dried skin (feeling sandy, even salty to the touch, gives way to a spongy kind of feeling on my scalp. I don't get flaky dandruff. At this point, If I keep scratching, scalp chunks will emerge from the itchy area and blood will tinge my bleached blond hair. It makes me feel crumby!! I dab apple cider vinegar on the tippy top of my scalp, where the itch is the worst. I keep it up, to the point of soaking my scalp in ACV. The vinegar relieves the itch. Sometimes I sleep on it, other times, I shower right away. I've used the ketaconazole. It's effective, but it embarrasses me to buy it. It's nobody's business but mine what grows on my scalp. So, I do a three-stage wash. First, I use Selsun Blue or Head-and-Shoulders, then my usual Pantene volume shampoo for fine hair, and, finally, I apply an inch of my L'Oreal color conditioner before drying and styling. The whole process takes about an hour. It's a "PiA," but it works.

The only thing that worked for me was raw honey. I tried all the shampoos and creams and nothing worked.
