My doctor believies it is muscle issue so time will tell.
I started having pain about 10 years ago ( around 2008 ). It first started with a numb pain around the shoulder blade area. It than started going down my right arm and into my 3 middle fingers. I was able to dismiss the pain for a long time. I had a sit down job where I did alot of computer work. It started to get very difficult to type for long periods of time. I'd take a lot of breaks till the numb pain would go away. I noticed it started hurting when washing dishes till it become difficult to even hold dishes. I would drop them. The pain got to the point where I could manage it with ib anymore. I started going to doctors. They performed every test imaginable. They never found anything!!! It was so frustrating. I went to doctors for what seemed a life time, to the point where I'd feel like I was losing my mind. I knew something was wrong I just didn't know what. I had this friend that worked at a doctors office where they specialized in back issues. This is where I was going. Well apparently I was seeing the wrong doctor. One day my friend suggest I see a different doctor at the practice. He did a simple x-ray and found I was growing an extra bone in my neck!!! The bone was smashing the arteries and veins which was not allowing the blood in my right arm to flow properly. I wasn't crazy after all!!! Next problem. Where I lived there was not a surgeon that was willing to perform a Thorasic Outlet Syndrome surgery!!! ( which meant they had to remove the right side of the rib) which also meant it was considered a nerve issue. Grrrrr..... So I decided I was going to search for a surgeon, explain my situation and get this rib removed!!! At this point it was my only option. I called about a dozen surgeon in towns next to mine. Everyone I'd call said they would not do the surgery cause it was to risky. The last call I made was ify. They decided to schedule me. I went in explained my situation and he decided to perform a Anterior gram on me. Once he saw the results he could not believe I had gone this long with no one seeing my results or being able to do my daily routine. He operated quickly. He removed the rid and some muscles in my shoulder blade. It was a miracle operation besides the recovery. It was an awful recovery. Was recovered I was a brand new momma! I was pain free up until about a months ago. He did warned me that I might get the same symptoms on my left side. Well they are not on my left side. The same numbness has returned on my right side. I have however been able to manage it with ib and heat. Lets see how long that help for.......
Your scapular muscle and its surrounding areas fibrous need to be checked a.s.a.p !
Thing is if SERIOUS damage is done your only hope for a bit of normal routine without pain of fire & deep intense itching due to constant healing & then breaking of scar tissue, fibroids etc...never heals completely. It only takes repeat movement for extended periods or anything that over works the same like tub cleaning or holding a infant walking upstairs with groceries to your apartment. Later in life its just a complete complication of once a muscle tear to a bunch of little areas indirectly affected by it and I HAD 2YRS PHYSICAL THERAPY 3X A WEEK PAID FOR AFTER GOING THROUGH MANY TESTING SESSIONS AND IMAGING IN 1992. IT WAS HELPFUL FOR PAIN AND RANG OF MOTION UPKEEP.
I now have what I believe to be other issues due to the other muscle issues picking up the slack of my USEING my arm all those milestones of yrs . 2infants- driving a stick-shift. I experienced complete paralysis 2x urinating in my bed. I was told the c1-4 was cause and fusing it might be saving my life as if It were to happen again while driving due to a sneeze-I crash&die....
My plea is get to a specific doctor who will listen & refer you -demand imaging & scans- Burning in the back means serious damage to you! Try to recall if you lifted or lowered from a high shelf anything that was heavy enough to make you feel strained while you were being a super human and getting it done with determination. That's positive to be a go getter but you injured your body not on purpose-but be a super human determined to get proper care. I still had to stop early throwing ball w/ my son. Cant drive a stick & I drive 160mi at times daily to worksites. Use a hand squeeze when I start to feel tingly in my pinky finger to get circulation from stopping & a numbing deep radiation that horrible hot grows in my arm leaving my hand ice cold. I was 19... and I did everything I could have to be pain free and not popping pills. I am pill free & professional therapy was part key in keeping my range of motion (which is - I can reach behind to my necks hairline from over my shoulder but BASICALLY nothing under shoulder. Remember when sitting in a chair choose armless chair and pretend a string in your middle cap is pulling you to proper upright position. Breath using your lower diaphragm to fill your lungs up from bottom first to the top. Leave shoulder apart space when you stand and sit. Bend to lift properly bending- NEVER CHOOSE TO TAKE ANY MORE SHORT CUTS WHEN YOUR BACK IS INVOLVED. GET A INBETWEEN LEGS PILLOW TO ELIMINATE SPINE PRESSURE WHILE SLEEPING AND A DECENT PILLOW- WITH A SIDE SLEEPING GROOVE THIS WAY YOUR SHOULDER IS NOT GETTING ANY STRAIN. DO PROPER CHIN TUCK EXERCISES REGULARLY AND DONT LOOK DOWN AT CELLPHONE EVERY TIME !LIFT IT UP TO EYE LEVEL
I hope what I mention helps someone.
I hurt myself during a job that required me to look down a lot while standing to perform tasks all day. My traps, back and shoulder blade on my right side became inflamed and I could barely turn my head, look up or lift my arm. I cried it hurt so bad and I had to call out of work and see my doctor. He recommended physical therapy and stretches. After doing my own research, what helped me was learning about trigger points. These trigger points may cause pain in areas that are not even close to what we may think would be the source. What helped me in this situation was to buy a lacrosse ball (I’m sure a tennis ball would work) or a trigger point massage hook and to work these areas out. For me, it was in the neck area/ trapezius. Almost where you would perform a Vulcan neck pinch. It was painful, but with some massage and rest (drink water!), my pain was almost gone.
I left that job and two years later had a baby. My posture had gotten terrible and the pain in my shoulder was back. But it was different. It felt like a ripping burning sensation that made me cry out when getting out of bed! After doing research this time, I realized that it was indeed due to my poor posture and holding baby out from my body for extended for periods of time. Apparently this pain comes from people sitting at computers or at jobs where arms are extended. I did some stretches that seemed to help (wall stretch for the chest and shoulder shrugs) but it didn’t rid the pain. It’s still not gone 100 percent unfortunately, but what has helped has been to work on the trigger point again, which is in the ribs, under the arm.
I will try to link what I found and hope it helps. It also showed this including arm pain, for those of you suffering with that.
I urge you to look and search for referred pain and trigger points. Trigger points are areas of tissue that are stressed balls of knots in the body. Sometimes the trigger point can hurt or it can cause referred pain, which is why we rub and massage the painful areas and it doesn’t go away! It’s because it’s being referred to from another area of the body, aka the trigger point!
