I was on public water, them moved to another state. I am now on a well and the problem is the same. I have also tried changing soap brands and using no soap, did not seem to help.

Try Dr Bronners liquid soap , available at grocery or health food store.
Then Coconut oil. It will help.

I  am so glad I find this forum. I am nearly 29 years old, and I suffer from this condition for as long as I could remember. My mom has the same problem, but mine is a lot more severe than hers. My arms and legs are the two areas that bother me the most. I've been to several doctors who recommend different stuff, but nothing never works. Over the years I've found a way to lessen the itch when I do the following:

-Start with a lukewarm shower and gradually change the water to cold. I make sure that the water is as cold as it can get for about a minute before I leave the shower.

-Immediately after the shower I stay in from of a cool source (either fan or AC) while I gently dry my skin with a towel

-While my skin is still damp I put lotion on (still in front of the fan). I usually start with my arms (because it itches the most) and when I'm done with my upper body I wear a long sleeve shirt to ensure that I don't scratch or touch my arms.

-When I'm done applying lotion I try to stay in front of the fan for maybe another 10-15 min before I get dressed.

It is a lengthly process, the itch is still very much there, but it helps me a little.  There's no way I can dress quickly after a shower;  I would be crying and screaming with pain. It is sad that a lot of people close to me think it is all mental. Even some doctors I've spoken with act like it is not a big deal.  It is a real incovenience for someone like me; I got scared whenever I have to take a shower.  I truly hope that there's a cure for that thing.

I came across this site and I'm just delighted to find you all.  I've spent hundreds of euro going to doctors and specialists and the best I got from them was 'stress' or 'prickly heat'.  I've sufferered for over 20 yrs now and the itching lasts for about 30mins after each shower.  I only take a morning shower after having my breakfast.  I'm reduced to having a bath at night and if the itch is bad I get into bed and wrap the covers tightly around me. I found baby oil helps but really messy to use each time. I've tried cutting out alcohol, caffine etc but no use.  I have not tried wheat free so may give that a go.  I do not drink milk but love other dairy products like cheese yogurts etc.  I will keep on eye on progress on this site  Thanks for being so helpful.  Much appreciated

At least I'm not crazy. I'm disappointed that no one seems to have a real solution though. I guess I just need to look forward to the fall when it hopefully disappears until next year.

I'm 45 years old.  Had this off and on - comes and goes for over 20 years.  It is terribly annoying.  Trying to deduce it's cause I've suspected the following:

1) Lack of restful sleep the night before - seems to occur when I'm sleep deprived. 2) change of seasons or weather meaning changes in my body chemistry as I may go weeks or months with no itching after showering, then severe itching for weeks.  3) The stimulating effects of shower water beading down on my body since I don't have itching after washing my hands or dishes, or after swimming in a pool or spa, etc...  It seems to be confined to showering.  4)  Drinking may exacerbate it but I attribute that to the lack of sound sleep cause, because you do not go into deep restful sleep when alchohol is in your system.  5)  Soaps and the artificial ingredients in them - I started buying natural soaps and seemed to itch less frequently.

I haven't found any consistent dietary causes since my diet is extremely healthful, natural and in great part organic.  Itching comes and goes with no real change in my diet.  I don't think heat has anything to do with it since I often take extremely hot bathes for the sweating benefits and do not have itching after - I also take cool showers on hot days or alternate the hot/cold/hot hydrotherapy in showers and if I'm not in the itching phase, no itching occurs regardless of water tempature.  Itching never occurs after baths - therefore my suspician it could be the stimulation of shower pelting my skin when I'm susceptible.  I'm itching right now as I showered about 15 minutes ago prompting me to search the interent yet again and found this forum.    Best solution - experiment, clean up diet, get enough sleep, try different detergents and soaps.  Good luck - you are not alone.

I've had this problem for about 6 yrs and I only have it in my hometown. When I travel to another city, I feel fine and even say something about it to my wife. I think it has something to do with our water supply. We receive a yearly report of what is being done at the water treatment center and gives a detailed list of the different bacteria being removed and some that are not. Call me crazy but I think this has to be it, because I'm not, all of a sudden allergic to something. I have had the test as a teen to help with my asthma and nothing.

I have also had this itching after showers/baths issue. Some things that help me are taking a bath instead of a shower and making sure to soak for at least 10 minutes before washing or shaving. Also, the times in my life when I tanned regularly is the ONLY time the itch has not happened at all. Also, rather than avoiding the shower, take one as often as possible, exfoliate every time and add lotion every time when you get out. I find coconut oil helps better than lotion, too. Hope this helps everyone!
