I was diagnosed with that blood cancer 6 years ago. That is a symptom of that disease.

I have found immediate relief to the insane itching issue by numbing with ice. It feels and works great. Literally holding 2 handfuls of ice cubes over a sink as they melt.
Its very efficient, especially if u focus on rebalancing the energy in your hands or affected area while u do so.

This is something I've suffered with almost my whole adult life ( just turned 40) After showering I get so itchy on my back that I end up getting really angry my partner knows to steer clear of me for at least half hour after a shower. I've tried all sorts washing with aqueous cream using double base cream E45 cream oilatum baby oil sanex dove the list goes on. Sometimes I find it a little easier if I rinse the conditioner from my hair at the last moment before I get out. I also don't rub myself dry I tend to use the hair dryer after first patting dry with one towel then using a dry towel to pat dry a second time then hairdryer to finish off. I also dress under the ceiling fan in our bedroom. Sometimes I get to the point where I'm actually nervous and frightened to shower because I know what's going to happen after. It itches so much I get really angry and could quite easily smash something. Like others I have found that after laying in the sun it's not so bad. We do have a tanning bed at home that I try to use at least 3 times a week. But nothing ever stops it completely. I have thought maybe it's my meds but as I say it's been like this almost my whole adult life and I've only had the meds around 10 years ( I have M.S) I'm also very obsessive with my laundry never use quick wash setting or really low temp and always use the extra rinse and still I suffer. Hopefully one day someone will pinpoint the reason why so many of us suffer this agonising condition. People who have never suffered can't even begin to understand how frustrating it is.
Good luck to everyone on this forum I hope you find your own unique way of dealing with this
Kindest regards
David from UK

Everything you have described has been happening to me as well!! I've been so miserable with this lol Looking everything up and nothing seems to perfectly match with my symptoms. However, I've been doing research on candida and yeast. I'm pretty sure I have SIBO and that my gut is compromised and I think you guys should look into that as well and go on an anti candida diet. It could be the yeast that is causing us to itch like this. Candida is a hell of a yeast and shockingly can cause many ailments and diseases. But yeah, give it a try guys. I know I definitely will. Let me also add that I have gastritis and there are many foods and drinks that have led to the damaging of my stomach lining and therefore allowing me to have leaky gut, where candida and yeast go out of control in your stomach. It also explains this itching, because I went to the allergist and she couldn't explain it at all. The only thing she said was that I have an overproduction of histamine for some reason. This is also what candida does. Anyways, hope this helps you guys!

After reading on Polycythemie Vera, can one live for long with the condition...as I've had the after shower itch for as long as I can remember? I itch if i dont shower in "very hot water". Variations in the water temperature will also bring the itch.

Sorry to hear that. How long had you been having the itch for?

I have the same nightmare of a problem. Try taking a hot bath with epsom salt after you shower. It seems to be helping me lately.

This sounds exactly the same as me. Nothing helps. I have had the problem for about 20 years since my early forties. I am glad I am not alone with this problem.

I also thought i was the only one with this. I am 15 and I have had this since I was 12. I get very itchy all over my legs especially on my thighs after showering and it's very uncomfortable. I find what helps me is to run the shower cold and put my legs under the cold water for about 2 minutes. This eases the itching. Also trying to distract myself from the itching helps whether that is reading, watching something, talking to someone or listening to music.

Hi all. I had a horrible issue with very dry itchy skin, particularly bad after showering and had a miserable flare up for 6 weeks last year. I saw a dermatologist and they ruled out allergies (through patch testing) and said I just had unusually dry skin. 'Just' didn't sum it up - I had to spend about an hour with ice on my skin to get it to calm down after washing. It now seems to be under control though so I thought I'd pass on what has worked for me. During the flare up I had to cut right back on washing temporarily, so only bathed/showered every other day and with warm water. During that time all the usual emollients etc. irritated my skin but I found that 100% Jojoba oil was tolerated; I applied it after washing without fail. Once things had calmed down the dermatologist prescribed Hydromol Intensive Cream 10% urea for my legs and Eucerin 5% urea for my arms. This seems to prevent a return of the issue as long as I remember to apply the creams regularly (as on the packets). Unfortunately there now seems to be a supply problem with the Hydromol so I have switched to Eucerin only (for now at least) and top up with the JoJoba Oil when needed. Hope this helps someone - I think for my skin I need the urea content. Good luck!

I have had this problem for over 18 years, i managed to come up with remedies to decrease of even stop the pain. i found out that when i take a shower after doing an exercise, (like running) that couses my skin to sweat,i do not get an itchy skin after the shower. if i forcus on doing exercises for a long time, the pain reduces with time and gradually fully goes away. whereas if i stop exercising for about 3 weeks, the pain comes back slowly by slowly.
i have now embarked on doing regular exercises (RUNNING) at least 3 times in a week which is working for me now

For me symptoms came on recently and suddenly after a shower in a European hotel following a two-week tour there. My entire body was on fire, prickling & itching. I would not have been able to sleep. I used an over-the-counter, 2% hydrocortisone cream all over which brought relief. (Do not use it often. It thins the skin permanently. See the label.) I thought the problem was the harsh soap or water, but it has continued at home in the US. Like others on this site, I've tried changing products. Cannot use Dove or Cetaphil soaps, CeraVe or Eucerin creams, which all made it more intense. I'm using a bar of Neutrogena glycerin face soap to avoid harsh chemicals, but it has not resolved the issue. Drying quickly with a fan or hair dryer seems to help since the problem starts when the skin is going from slightly damp to dry. There is a delay in symptoms when you first get out of the shower and are still very wet. By the way, I'm 70, female, and have never had skin problems before. Maybe some of these ideas, with a big dose of sympathy, will help others. Keep posting!
