I have had issues with my hands peeling and cracking ever since i was a kid, especially during winter. my problem was that i was dehydrated and poor diet. Eating a balanced diet and taking vitamins or supplemnts for the stuff you dont get in your diet would probably help solve the problem as long as it isnt a fungus or eczema. Check with a specialist first and if medicine and lotion doesnt help definitely consider changing your diet.

It is amazing to find so many questions about one topic and little answers. For skin fungus problems ACV (apple cider vinegar) is a great treatment reguardless of where you are treating the body, for many years I have had skin problems expressed through my chest, hands and feet. I used agents from fresh aloe vera plants to anti hemriod creams trying to defuse these issues, only progressively coming to earthly remedies to find pure answers. As my hands are breaking out at the moment for the first time in years I will be treating them with ACV and will post the results, this is the only solution I have found to be successful so far and it just so happens to be raw and organic. While treating the body I use a cotton swab and dab two or three times a day over the problem area and watch as it has disappears within a couple days, I have treated my chest and feet this way with great success and am posting with anticipation of the same results for my hands.

I have the same problem as many have mentioned and the only thing i have found to help is called Working Hands ( o'keeffe"s name brand). It can be bought at lowes or home depot. My mom also suffers with the same symptoms and says that it helps her also. I use it at night before bed and by morning there is a huge difference. It doesn't burn or feel greasy or anything else. I use it at night because of the fact that i am constantly washing my hands, clothes, dishes, etc. This is the only product i have found to provide some relief and maybe it will for others too!

I'm so happy to hear from you! I felt bad that I was getting sooo much relief and that I hadn't heard from anyone else testing it. I'm still searching for products, still scared. Touched something the other day and it came back on my left hand, swollen and dry. Its gone now but SLS is scary stuff!! Love to keep up on your experience. Kristine

I have been having this same problem for my left index finger for over a month now. It first started with just my right big toe over the summer which I thought was due to wearing flip flops all the time and I put a lot of pressure on my big toes when I walk in my flip flops. I get the flip flops with thick wedge like heals which causes me to put more weight on my toes then my heals. I have a little bit of a peeling spot on my left heal too but nothing I am worried about.
I had searched online for some remedys and I saw to use Vaseline (Petroleum Jelly) and they said to apply it to the peeling area every night before you go to bed and by the next day it should be a lot better. I tried it and it took almost a month or so till it cleared up most the way and I stopped applying it and it started to peel all over again. Then my left index finger started to peel and I don't know about anyone else but once something peels I can't just sit and let it go. I have to pick and remove all the dead skin. Sometimes removing good skin with it and making myself bleed. I know not a good thing to do but drives me crazy when my finger sticks to everything because of the peeling off skin.
Now I did have eczema or at least I am pretty postitve it's what I had may be two years ago. Right in the middle of my right palm. I can tell you the symptoms they give for eczema is exactly what I had and it's terrible. The itching, flaking, oozing, redness, peeling, etc. I got Cortisone 10 Eczema cream for it and it cleared up completely with it. I haven't had the same problem since. I was thinking of trying to use the cream on my peeling areas.
I am also one of those people who reacted to belt buckles on my stomach. I got a small itchy and bumpy spot. I thought it was poison but it lasted a long time so I knew then it wasn't. It looked just like poison ivy. The same time I had the eczema on my hand. Before that I had a necklace and I had a nasty reaction too. I wore it and my neck started to itch real bad and became red. After awhile it puffed up like poison ivy and just started to ooze puss. All I did was take it off and within a day or two it was gone. I put the necklace back on again just to test it and within a couple of hours I was back to itching. I don't think it was SLS because I haven't reacted to pants buttons or anything else. Just certain jewelry and belt buckles. That's why I buy woven or braided belts now. I can't go without a belt. I can find pants that fit right around my butt. I have short thick legs and a big butt. lol So it's hard to find where it fits both ways. I like my stretchy jeans. They fit best.
I drink a lot of water so soda isn't the problem for me. I was drinking some there for awhile though truthfully. But I am trying to not drink any because I am on a diet and soda has sugar which makes you gain weight back.
Another good lotion that just dawned on me now that might help everyone is called Udderly Smooth. It helps with dry and cracked skin. I am a farm girl so I have heard of it and saw it. They use/used it on cows udders when they get dry and crack. Hense the name UDDERly sMOOth.
It could be the fugus infection. That does make a lot of sense because I do have fungus under one toe nail and my one toe I have no nail and the only thing protecting the skin is nothing but fungus. I know gross but I am afraid to get rid of the fungus and no nail growing back. It's really going to hurt if I kick something or just bump it with no nail.

Never been a nail biter either. So that isn't my problem either. I was accused of being a nail biter by my orthodontist which really made me angry. When you have had braces even while having them you aren't supposed to bite your nails. It messes up your teeth. Only time I may bite a nail is when one breaks and I bite it the rest of the way off or to straighten it out and so its not jagged or sharp. Which isn't too often. My nails break easily but they don't break too often. With being around kids they do tend to break quicker.
