I've had this since 2000 and it shows up maybe 10 times a year. My naturopath gave me a homeopathic remedy for lymph drainage. That took the pain away on tow occasions. I have it back now and it's not doing anything.
Has no one gotten any good results for the neck pain?
The guest who posted on 3/23/13 did your surgery work for you?
Me too! me too! I had my thyroid ultrasound and took blood tests but everything went out normal.
So while looking these symptoms up I come across my old post. I forgot I had a CT scan. I have been having the same pain in my throat (although not a sore throat) for almost 2 weeks now. The difference this time from a few years ago was that now it is in the base of my neck too and goes up to my head. When Push on it it feels better which makes me feel it has to do with a muscle.
I had recently moved out of state. So last week I went to a new ENT. Had not been to one since they gave me the steroid injection in 08 since I have not had the pain since then. I go to a Chinese massage place often here. Whenever they do the left side of my neck I cringe. This last time the guy really hurt me. Then a week later I'm having the pain. I wonder if it's connected.
The ENT put a camera down my throat and saw nothing but some reddness and I was a little swollen. His guess was that it had to do with acid. So he put me on Methylprednisolone and something my insurance denied similar to Prilocec, which is what I ended up getting instead. No change. So the dr wants me to get a CT scan. I'm happy I came across this to read my old post that I already had had one. Totally forgot. I have been doing alot of research and something that sounded like it was a possibility was Sternocleidomastoid. I was also having some sharp pains in my right clavicle. So I went to a chiropracter two days ago to see if it's just muscles or nerves. No change yet.
This is frustrating that everyone seems to have the same symptoms. Does anyone else have the pain in the back of their head too at the base of their neck from the throat pain. I feel it's all connected.
I realize it has been a very long time since you have written your entry, but I have the same situation. I believe it is the nodules. I have three but my ENT doesn't want to perform a biopsey. what about the energy level? I have gone from the power of three to the power of barelt thee. Good luck...MaMaberi
Have you been tested for lupis
are you taking any thing hormones? any thing natural for any women conditions? i started on something natural 3 months later i had the same thing start happening............
I have experienced this pain before but I can't remember the last time I had it. Then last Saturday (so 4 days ago) I woke up with this pain that every time I coughed, I would get a shooting pain run down the left side of my front neck from just below the ear lobe down to the lower third of my neck. It also hurt below the jaw bone so I then thought perhaps it was an abscess in the gum or something like that. I also thought it could be related to the bad cold I had just had but when feeling around my neck I discovered the 'focal' point of the pain which was was quite deep in the upper corner of my neck. Sometimes when I turn my head to the left it feels feels tight and I get a mild sensation of the pain until I turn so far that something 'clicks' or 'pops' and the pain goes away - as if something is trapped or there's a lump there. When I'm sat still and doing other general things, I can't feel the pain. Going to make a doctors appt tomorrow but am just hoping it's a swollen gland as a consequence of the cold I had. Will update when I know more.
This is the blind leading the blind here. Go see your healthcare provider as people here are explaining several unrelated symptoms. More than likely a tendon or muscle fiber in your neck was strained; however, a more serious issue could be the cause. And don't self-prescribe antibiotics. You're unnecessarily taking medication and allowing your body to build a resistance to that medication for when you will actually need it!
It's good to know that other people have had the same experience with this mysterious pain that I have had. (or is that bad?!) I too kept having a mild ache off and on in the front left side of my neck that started about a year and a half ago so I went to an ENT. He did the scope down the nose thing, said he saw nothing and that it might be a type of myofacial muscle pain. He told me to take ibuprofen and try using a warm cloth on the area. Since I had a couple minor ulcers, an anti-inflammatory was not a good option for me because they are linked to sometimes causing them, so I wound up doing nothing considering the occasional pain was bearable. It went away for a few months then came back recently and now I'm really concerned because last night I started having pain in the exact front of my neck instead, that's worse and even tender to touch. I don't think I feel a lump in the area. I also feel a little "under-the weather", am having quite a bit of sinus drip (although I often have that), and my ears feel a kind of plugged. I've never had pain in my neck (not throat) quite like this before and don't know what to make of it, plus don't know if it's related to the left front pain I've had from time to time, or not. I don't have Med. insurance so don't really want to have it checked out just yet. I'm really hoping this new symptom just goes away. I'm curious...does anyone who has this problem also wear ear plugs at night? I use them to cut down noise while sleeping and wonder if that has anything to do with it. I hope we all get an answer to this strange problem soon!
I cant't believe so many folks have this problem it derives me crazy. CCoals water helps. Even had a via posy and nothing. My son in law had a pain under his Schindler similar to this an died IOC a stroke. Can't get a doctor to do an ultrasound on artery. Gues we will be ok since it is so common. Shops someone will post an answer.
Hello, I have been having these symptoms since December on/off and have gone to 3 ENT's, Neurosurgeon and Rheumatologist and have had all kinds of tests (MRA of neck; comprehensive blood tests) and no diagnosis yet. Also had my carotid artery checked and all is well.
Has anyone been diagnosed yet? Please share looking for some answers.
Thanks
I have these similar symptoms as well.
Is any one particularly stressed? or drink alcohol?
I have noticed my symptoms seem to reappear when I get particularly stressed or do not get enough sleep. Also if i drink even the tinniest amounts of alcohol. Not sure if this is anyone else.
I have a lot of the same symptoms for over 4 years. Going crazy with this bizarre pain. Anyone ever get any diagnosis? I have had many diagnosis but never found any treatments that work.
I wear earplugs every night and have for years. I often wondered if that might be a contributor.
