I too am experiencing the same type of problem. The pain is not in my throat. It doesn't even hurt when I swallow. Only when I turn my neck a certain way. The pulse in my neck becomes very strong and it's tender to the touch. It comes and goes. The first time that I experience this problem was on the left side of my neck. It came back on the right side. This time it hurts along my jaw bone and down the right side of my neck, but only certain positions that I turn my neck or when applying pressure is when it's most bothersome.
Sounds like sternocleidomastoid muscle pain. It can cause pretty much every symptom described here.
OMG! This is me. It started in February 2013 with a swollen discomfort feeling in the right side of my neck. Not a sore throat. Not acid reflux (I have that and KNOW what it feels like). It has spread to now include (all on RIGHT side only): tender pain behind ear, under chin/jaw, down along trachea, behind/next to thyroid, down along area of right bronchi/breast and along/beneath my collarbone. I have actual PAIN at the base of the throat/neck IN FRONT/NEXT to the trachea (NOT the esophagus) . My right ear has a crackling sensation when I swallow with a slight increase of pressure from inside (as if I'm holding my nose and blowing out to equalize my ear). It last for just a microsecond and then goes away. It doesn't actually "pop" my ear pressure. Also when I swallow and the larynx starts to rise (as it does at some point in the swallowing process), I have sharp increase of the pain on the right side of this area in the neck. It feel like something is "popping" against the larynx. Sometimes when I yawn, and the larynx lowers at the depth of the yawn, it feels as if something is twisting/popping over the edge of the larynx. Once it kind of got stuck, painfully, and I gagged and had to work my tongue around to get it unstuck. It hurt like heck after that. Now, if I press down on the lower neck area during swallowing to try to stop the upward movement, the pain doesn't increase. It's a constant painful, ache now. It's worse if I jog/workout. I have had CT scans of the sinus, the soft tissue of the neck and the lungs. I've had an ultrasound of the thyroid and the lymph glands on the right side of the neck. I've had the ENT put a scope up my nose and down to my vocal cords. I've had blood work. EVERYTHING IS NORMAL! But here I am in constant pain from my right ear, through my glands under my right chin/jaw, down the right side of my trachea, worst at the base of my neck next to the thyroid, down into my upper right chest and along/below my right collarbone.
Same problem just started to happen today... I was worried it was a stroke or something and I am only 28yrs old. Its like a shooting/aching pain from the left part of my neck through the front left part of my jaw/mouth for me... It's honestly freaking me out too...
I have had that pain a few years ago what I finally found out was it got worse when I was nervous I went to the doctor and he said being upset trigeres it I have to remain calm and dont get angry or nervous so often because around that time I was studying for university exams , but now I'm fine and I realy tried to stay calm at that time and it went away
Has anyone ever thought of answering the problem instead of telling everyone that they've got it - no help to anyone just repeating things.
Yes I am experiencing that problem right now on the front right side of my neck. I've also experienced it on my left side too. It comes & goes every few months. I would love to find out what it is.
