I have the same thing but it only seems to happen when im laying bed and i turn or lift my head up. It is painful to swallow or drink anything the only thing I can think to do it put my fingers in my neck as if im checking for a pulse and rub and it seems to go away a few minute later. Please let me know if you have the same thing.
I had my tonsils removed when I was 6. I just started having this problem after swimming and camping at a local lake. I have heard it might be strep.
Same thing here. Been under stress and have that goofy pain on the right side of my throat. Not really a sore throat, more sore muscle-tendony-type soreness. Mine has moved around and clicked from time to time, but always seems to localize on the right. I recall it feeling like a lump in my throat for awhile, but now it's just mild, annoying pain. Been on Amoxicillin but doesn't seem to help. ENT was not concerned and told me I could have a CT if it continued. I just might, but obviously this is more common than I thought. Mine doesn't hurt when eating, only when swallowing normal saliva. I poke around a lot on my throat in the shower and never can feel a lump. I figure I perpetuate the pain by constantly massaging my throat. What's weird is that when I apply pressure and swallow, there isn't any pain. I've been having acid reflux and figure it's related. Wish it would just go away. Going to my GP this week but not expecting much help.
I have the exact same thing too! I do have a thyroid condition but this is much higher and starts with tenderness and to some degree pain right along the underside of my jaw and its much worse later in the day and evening. Its also caused a lot of strain/tension in the two tendons that run up either side of my neck. I dont have any swollen glands and my doctor told me that anxiety can cause this as well....but I think the more I think about it the more anxious I get that something is really wrong so who knows! glad I'm not the only one experiencing this thing that no doctor seems to be able to diagnose!
I have had a constant sore throat on the right side for 6 years now. Had tonsils removed after 2nd yr. Was examined by 3 ENT, 1 oral surgeon, dentist and have complained to my GP for a long time. They all say it's not serious but only one of them told me it was chronic pharangitis. My symptoms started out as just a sore throat with a small sore on the back of my throat. After 2 yrs a tingly feeling on right side of my face upto my ear. After 5 yrs have sore throat, stiff neck, feeling of tender glands in my right armpit towards my breast. At 6 yrs the stiffness is spreading down my right arm and still no answers. I am 40 now and have also had 2 mammograms done having normal results. It's extremely frustrating, makes me crazy because I think I might have cancer and I won't find out until it's too late. Has anyone experienced the same?
ok i have it too and haven't been to a doc (at least yet) but like a lot of others on here i'm under unusual stress here too (hurricanes, job etc) so let me ask you all. mine is on the left (as are a lot of others) are all of yours on the left? are you all under lots of stress? what have more of your docs said? any alternative health care professionals take a look? I'm thinking of going to my acupuncturist chinese doc... ok more soon. but pls answer the questions it will help us all.

I have it 2 and I was getting worried it could be cancer. The more I stressed about it the worse it got. Mine is on the right side, throat feels like there is an air pocket or something in it. Not really sore, just down right irritating, and my neck is in constant pain. Starts on the right and gets worse as the day progresses. My collar bone also feels lke it is on fire. I found an interesting site, I was researching my carpal tunnel syndrom to find a cure, and there is another disease that is similar to carpal tunnel, that is in the neck and throat. They call it TOS. If any of you have poor posture, or work on computers alot, you may want to research TOS.
Oh my goodness, I am so glad to hear I am not alone. I have had this on and off on my right side for at least a year. It is driving me crazy. If anyone gets an answer, please post!
ok i read all the others with this problem of left throat pain. Mine popped up about a week ago and wont go away. Ibuprofen doesn't seem to help much and neither does muscle relaxers. Someone must have been to the doctor and got an answer to what this is?? I'm leaning toward a stress/anxiety response, but there has to be someone that got an answer to this problem? If nobody has gotten an answer from a doctor that solved this problem, i'm spending my money on a good massage or some xanax or something, since apparently no tests find anything wrong?
SI WHAT IS IT? WHAT WERE YOU EVENTUALLY DIAGNOISED WITH?
PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT YOU WERE DIAGNOSED WITH!
I have the same symptoms. All on my life side (rarely on my right side).
The pain is in my left ear, my left jaw, the left side of my throat, even my teeth and the left side of my nostril will hurt!
Rarely, my right ear and right throat will hurt.
I was on antibiotics (amoxicilan?) for an ear infection in my right ear in July.
I was diagnosed with a sinus infection earlier this month-November-and received 14 days worth of a stronger oral antibiotics, and a shot of a steroid and a shot of an antibiotic.
I just finished the antibiotics about a week or two ago.
The infection went away, I guess, but now it's something else.
It's a different kind of pain in my throat than the sinus infection, which caused me to cough a lot.
No coughing, but it's more of a moderate to severe aching pain in all of the areas I mentioned above.
I was thinking because my teeth hurt and my jaw will occasionally make a crackling noise when I eat food, that I grind my teeth at night.
TMJ runs in my family.
So, I'm going to get a night guard and see if that helps anything.
But the pain hurts mostly in my throat more than any of the other places.
It still hurts...

My pain just came out of the blue, whatever that means. I felt something different about my neck and felt pain. It hurts more if I talk a lot or laugh and hurts really bad if I sneeze. I have been fighting cancer for 7 years so this is making me nervious. With the holidays coming I can't get checked out until next week. If anything comes from it I will share with you all.
I also have one spot on neck when pressed on, pain shoots up into jaw area. No lumps. Had x-rays and CT done and it was completely normal. Now am experiencing heartburn after every meal. (Not sure if it's related.) I am thinking about going to see a chiropractor and also taking meds for heartburn. Possibly try to sleep on an incline.
I have this too, just got it today after rubbing the area--trying to relieve the jaw awkwardness of TMJ...but now I've got this saddled on me too. After a while though, I began thinking that maybe it's a mucus ball? :/ I felt some trying to come up my throat but I just swallowed since there wasn't enough to spit out. Mine doesn't really hurt...just really awkward and uncomfortable.
Consider this yet another useless reply from someone who found this thread while searching Google for stuff related to neck pain and has nothing more to add than "ME TOO!"
Mine is on the righthand side and has been a "comes and goes" sort of thing for at least a couple of years.. Pain is mild, almost like bruise-related pain or tenderness, and is located deep in the side of my neck just above and behind where you would take a pulse.
In the past it has sort of gone away on its own in a few days and I have forgotten about it. I usually seem to wake up with it and had suspected that it may be the result of me mashing my teeth together in my sleep (which my wife assures me that I do).
As far as other commonalities with things previously mentioned:
1. I used to smoke for many years but quit successfully (so far) 6 months ago.
2. I used to have acid reflux but not in several years since I lost a substantial amount of weight and changed my diet.
3. I probably am under stress since I just started a new job a couple of months ago.
