I'm noticing a similar thing in my throat now. I was worried it was cancer. it's been there for a couple days now. sounds like a virus of some sort to me now. like a throat canker... I'm going to try overdosing on vitamine c, see if that helps.

It's possible that it is ear wax build up. I had very similar symptoms but happened to be on the right side of the neck. I went to the doctor and they put some ear wax drops / softener in the ear, I waiting 15 minutes, then the nurse flushed out my ear repeatedly with warm water. A sizable ball of wax came out and I immediately felt better. I was cured! I had to mention this because no one has really talked about this possibility and now it's happening on my left side. You can buy a ear flushing kit at your local drug store for a few dollars. Worth it, but you have to flush until the wax comes out and may take repeated attempts. Reading all these posts with NO solutions is depressing!

Just like all of you, I've had the same problems. I want to thank all of you, for posting , and trying to help others with your experiences and knowledge.

I'm going to spare you the details, and I'm going to give you a possible solution to your troubles.

Search for eustachian unclogging methods on youtube and also using a neti pot. Using these procedures, I've been able to get rid of this problem that we're all dealing with. Apparently having a clogged eustachian tube leads to pain in the neck depending on which side the clogg is on. If you are having the same symptoms on the right, odds are that your right eustachian tube is clogged. This explains why we are also dealing with pain in the ear on the same side that we are having neck pain on.

Caution: If you've been dealing with this problem for a while I suggest you get on an antibiotic first, before attempting to unclog your eustachian tube. I know you've all noticed the pain in the neck going away when on antibiotics. If this was cancerous, antibiotics would have no effect on the status of the pain.

If this isn't your problem, perhaps you are also suffering from some wax buildup. Odds are, if you're suffering from a clogged eustachian tube, you probably have a wax buildup. Might as well clean everything out while you're at it.

I too have had this 'deep' pain on the left side of my neck twice now and Ive experienced that clicking sensation when swallowing too. I think thats how it started the first time, I was sculling a drink rather quickly and something clicked in my neck and then that pain set in.

Now I have it on the right side but without the clicking. It just came on by itself. Previously it has just gone away without me realising it. But now its day 5 and I noticed a slight earache on the same side, so I payed the doc a visit. They checked my temp, my ears, my throat, my glands and other than a slight temp they couldnt find much. My ears were waxy so they couldnt rule out a middle ear infection but Ive not had anymore earache since the one earlier today.
I too suffer reflux but am at a loss to see how reflux could cause what feels like deep muscle pain. Ive been advised to take losec everyday for the reflux (just incase its connected) and if Im still experiencing pain in a couple of days Ill go on a course of antibiotics to treat the possible ear infection.

I can move my head left and right, up and down without any pain. But if I tilt my head sideways, thats when I get the pain. Its the weirdest thing.
Has anyone had any luck with finding the cause?

Cheers

Hi,
Just read some of the replies since I last posted. Just wanted to point out that there are probably people with similar sounding symptoms and different causes. I was skeptical when my doc first told me that the cause of my pain was likely to be reflux. It took me a couple of months before I was convinced. But after many tests, even after one specialist did suggest reflux, the doctors were unable to locate any other problems or alternative causes. I even had a ct?? scan of my neck and their were no blockages of glands etc. The only prob that was found by any doc was redness inside my thoat, way down where i guess i could feel the pain in my neck. After researching reflux I realised that it had also been the cause of my heart seeming to race at night which triggered anxiety and insomnia. I never knew how much trouble reflux had been causing. I thought i was just experiencing anxiety from being a parent of young kids. I was put on medicine to help with the relfux, but was told also that exercising, losing weight and cutting out coffee, tea, softdrinks, alcohol and chocolate would possibly solve the problem also. I hadn't been terrible with any of these things particularly, except maybe for chocolate and a couple of coffees a day and an occasional glass or two of wine. THe medicine helped somewhat after a number of days, but when i stopped taking it after the first pack, the neck ache came back. Another round of the meds worked the same. However i did also give up caffeine and alcohol almost completely by this stage, and I had started losing weight by running. The improvement has been great. my neck is so much better and i don't get stuck awake from the other symptoms of reflux. When i do break the rules with food or in particular with alcohol  i sometimes experience reflux at night still.
Anyhoo, I just thought this follow up might help other people who are experiencing the same problems or suggestions by their doctors.
Good luck to everyone in resolving your medical problems!

I didn't read all the replies here...but I've suffered debilitating throat/neck pain for 5 years...No doctors could figure it out so I figured it out myself by researching everything eventually...I don't have what I believe you have....If I were you, I would look up the following problems....- 1) Hyoid Bone Syndrome -- Hyoid bone dislocation --- 2) Eagles syndrome  3) Some type of Neuralgia ---Trigeminal or Glossopharyngeal ---- You may need an anti-seizure medicine like carbamazapine, neurontin and an anti anxiety like xanax, valium, or ativan....If this Pain is amplified byeating a bad diet or drinking and smoking---you must limit yourself and change that...sleep with a foam slope under your bed....I think all of these problems or syndromes are instigated by stress which causes Larynpharyngeal Reflux or some kind of stomach ulcer ya know....I've spent many a months researching these problems and many others dealing with neck and throat pain....HYOID BONE PROBLEMS....this is your best bet believe me....Good luck in your search for a pain-free existence....Because what your going through is terrible if its anything like I had...Life-Changing, not being able to function Probably, I'm assuming!!!! Hope the best for you...xd

I've been having the same problem. It's tricky b/c you kind of feel like it could be your throat, but mine was actually a "pinched Nerve". Mine also got better with antibiotics and pain relievers b/c that reduced the swelling, which reduced the pressure that was on the nerve. It almost feels like a throat infection sometimes b/c the nerve is so close to your glands, you can feel it when you swallow. My ear even ached sometimes.  :) good luck

I have had the same pain for almost a year.  Just started with the physical therapist.  Elecectric stem has helped tremendously, and ice packs.  Stay away from heat treatments, it set me back by 6 months when I followed bad advise and used heat instead of ice.

Thought I would update my situation.
Whatever it was it lasted no more than 2 weeks. All I did was take the losec.

I have also had a weird pain in my neck for the last past 4 months now.  It was really painful in the beginning but pain faded after about 2 weeks.  Now, it's not really painful, it just a weird sensation on the right side of my neck.  It is usually worst in the mornings and after my first swallow and get better after continuation of swallowing or after drinking.  I recently went to my primary physician for it and he prescribe amoxicillin for it.  I am taking it now.  Hopefully it will get better.  I will keep you guys posted.  I personally think it is an infection or allergies related problems because the sensation seems to radiate to my right ear at times...anyways, let see how this antibiotics is going to work.

Yup, same thing aggravated by a cough. Very localized and will flare up when stressing out the vocal chords (ie singing). It will jus twinge (painfully) and the voice just stops. I am wondering if this is larynx connected...
