Anyone on here got a verdict on their chest pain after quitting smoking? I've been 5 weeks and have lots of aches and pains around my chest, through my back, under my ribs - I have been super healthy food and exercise wise (not overdoing it but keeping active) and had maybe one puff every 2 days on a nicotine free electronic cigarette. Has anyone's pains stopped yet? Anyone had bad diagniosis from further tests? I hope it's just the lungs healing but any reassurance from people here would be great!

Well done, you will not regret it - feeling like a normal human being is fantastic. I was on h for about 10 years and have not touched for over 10 years now and never will again. My advice is to get the hell away from anyone you do it with (I moved country - might be a bit extreme but this is your life remember) even if you love them etc etc... trying to do it with someone else doesn't work. If you CAN do it with them around then you're a stronger person than me!... then you can help them too. Good luck and stay strong!

Well Done all for making an Effort and quit smoking....... Consider this a Biggest gift and favour to yourself......... its been 3 weeks now that i quit smoking after 6 years. i use to smoke 1 pack a day and suddenly i felt like quitting. first week was really difficult Fever, cold, cough, headache, getting angry easily, chest pain etc. but i am not facing any problem except sometimes it hard to breath. Shortness of breath occurs because in 6 years i've damaged my lungs badly and its not going to heal that easily. people dont be afraid, this things can last for few weeks or months depending on how much u have damaged your body, so please be patience and dont take any wrong call or start smoking again. try and comsume more food, chocolates, water etc...... Be Brave and remember you are doing this for your good and no1 else.

I'm with you guys on this... I notice the chest/lung pains starting about 3 days after quitting cold-turkey. Funny thing is, it's intermittent - not constant. I've noticed that nicotine patches help alleviate the pain entirely and my lungs feel like they're "opening up" shortly after applying a 21mg patch. I'm also exercising rigorously, so that might have an effect.

Anyway, my 2 cents - supplement your nicotine intake a bit with nicotine gum/patches/lozenges that contain a high amount of nicotine when the pain starts, then gradually decrease your intake over time. Nicotine itself is dangerous, but it's one hell of a lot better than what you get from 1-2 packs of cigs in a day.

Hi all,

Thought that I would jump in on this thread... as I quit smoking a couple of years ago and had a similar experience as many of you.

I smoked for about twenty years and finally decided to quit.  When I finally quit smoking I found that I suffered from short duration, moderate to intense pain in or near my heart several times a day.  This went on for about 4-5 months after quitting.  At it's worst it would occur 10 times a day and that it had nothing to do with physical activity.  I did go to my doctor as it was concerning to me... he was no help, suggested it was stress and want to write me a sick note.  I used to joke that when I quit smoking, "I went from head aches (smoking)  to heart aches (upon quitting)".

I really do not know what was happening, but I figure it was the blood vessels or heart adjusting to the physical or chemical changes the body was going through.  I'm pleased to say that the pains went away after about 5 months and I don't have headaches or heart pains anymore.

So my advice to you as an exsmoker, is to stay the course and "don't stop quitting".  It took me 10 years and 10-15 trys to quit.

Hope this help a few of you... if you are concerned, see your doctor maybe he/she will be more help than mine.

Hey. Im expieriencing the same symptoms as all you guys. Im 17 and I smoked pot for 3 years almost every day and smoked cigs for about 4 years. I quit pot about 10 days ago due to anxiety, and quit cigarettes about a week ago. I have been expieriencing a tightness in my chest and a stabbing-like heart or lung pain on the left side of my chest. Also dizziness at times and if i don't dip snuff i experience insomnia and an extreme lack of focus. Hopefully the symptoms stop in the next month or two. My anxiety makes me think its something else but i have a feeling its the smoking because i dont feel any other serious symptoms other than extreme fatigue at times. Which is also a symptom of smoking cessation. I feel better that Im not the only one because it reassures me something isn't wrong.

I had various chest pains and shortness of breath since I have quit smoking for the past 6 months, I have figured out that cold weather and caffeine make the pains worse, they are not present all of the time and drinking lots of water does help, but I have not had one medical professional explain what is going on, I have seen hospitals, my local GP and a specialist and the best they can advise is that I have mild asthma. I am in hell and I would like to hear from a subject matter expert who can assist.
