I have had this off and on my entire life....TRY WASHING YOUR EYES WITH SOOTHING BORIC ACID...ITS WONDERFUL LUKE WARM....AT ANY DRUG STORE....ALSO USE EYE DROPS FOR EYE ALLERGIES AND BENEDRYL.... IF IT SPREADS YOU MUST HURRY TO A DR. SUCH AS ALL OVER YOUR FACE. :-D
I have had a small problem with swelling
underneath my eyelids for about a week now. I at first thought it was due to switching from clinique's clarifying lotion 3 to 2 (which is less alcohol based, but has a "tingler" in it that 3 does not have). that is really the only thing I have changed in my regimen.
however, I noticed that the swelling is worst as soon as I wake up. there is also some pain in the area that is swollen. as the day wears on, with a shower etc, it will become almost unnoticeable. almost. and the pain is almost gone.
but as soon as I wake up, it's back to being swollen and painful! I tried thinking of any other factors that would play a part in this, and I realized that my cat will use my
bed as his bed throughout much of the day, almost every day. I have been around cats my entire life, so I didn't thnk that it was a factor. regardless, I washed my sheets, have been keeping the cat out of my room, and have seen significant improvement as a result!

So I went to my doctor when my eyes started to bother me and she said i had dry eyes, gave me some artificial tear drops to put in my eyes and after a few days i was right as rain. except the area around me eyes were red. i thought it was irritated by the itching/rubbing i had done and left it alone, but it didn't go away. it only sometimes itches (and when i itch it, it's the skin and not my eye that's being itchy so i know my eyes haven't fried up again) and then the skin sort of went flaky. My doctor told me it was going to go away on it's own, which it hasn't. my mom's been telling me to put bio oil, which i have and it's been helping very minimally, if even at all. For about a month now, i have red-grey eyes that are a little swollen and it's really killing my concentration in school. it's completely depressing me and i have been asked by every other person if i was tired or sleepy because it looks like i haven't slept in days. I want to know if this is eczema or something, please, i need an answer and something i can do about this problem!
Today is my 53rd birthday, and I used to get compliments about not looking my age but, as of 12/01/10, I look 83! I don't know what happened all of a sudden but, one eye lid started swelling, itching a little, and by yesterday, both lids were swollen and now I have terribly, puffy, wrinkles and bags underneath. Needless to say, I have not left my house for anything and have been on the computer looking for anything that may help. I recently became unemployed, which also means uninsured so, my options are very limited. It sounds like the doctors are making a lot of money, and the patients are losing their patience.I don't think there's any danger of getting a job once anyone sees me, right now. I have tried quite a few things (witch hazel, raw potato slices, aloe vera, ice, tea bags) but, I don't see much difference. Whatever I look like tomorrow, I will unfortunately have to go out anyway. I am the only one that does anything for my 94 yr. old Father, in a nursing home! Any suggestions, as soon as possible, would be greatly appreciated.
Four months ago, my skin itched around my eyes. I lightly itched the skin around my eyes while I was driving home (at night). When I got home, the skin UNDER my eye bags was swollen and it turned red! the redness went up around the outside of my eyes and into the crease below my eyebrows. I thought that I had an allergic reaction to the salt on the popcorn that I was eating (and then inadvertantly touching the skin around and below eyes). I went to my GP's PA the next day and he said that it was contact dermatitis and he put me on a Mederol dose pack. It seemed to help the redness within a few days, but the swelling under my eye bags have never gone away. (I think that I itched my skin because the welts were already there and I just didn't notice that this swelling was occurring.)
These welt-like swelling bumps are getting bigger. I can feel them fill up with water and I have to keep my hands away from my face and avoid scratching my skin because it itches. Every time I went down to the basement to get a Christmas decoration box, my face would itch but I conciously avoided my fingers on my face. (I am sure that I am allergic to dust.) I am convinced that the swelling under my eyes is some sort of an allergic reaction. I have used Zyrtec at night and Zyrtec D during the day. I have put Cortisone cream on these bumps and it does nothing. I tried icing the bumps to see if the increased blood to the area would diminish the swelling and these bumps swelled up even worse!
I went to the dentist yesterday for an exam to make sure that there wasn't some sort of infection of my tooth or jaw.
Because of the other postings, I am going to check my parathyroid and I am going to check my histamine intake, not sure how to, but I am going to look into it.
My eyelids are unaffected. I have gone without make-up for a few weeks, so I have ruled that out. I have not changed hair products and my skin doesn't react to my hair products anyway. I will watch my salt intake.....I do not salt my food anyway. I hardly eat fried foods. I am trying to eat more raw fruits and vegetables anyway. I do not eat a lot of processed meats and I am looking into a vegan diet anyway, so I have cut way back on dairy products and meat products.

prednisone is big problem. Every type of steroids shut down certain glances in hour body. You have to take yourself off of it like with any other drug. Less and less prednisone every third or forth day till you get to the zero. hope this will help. I was in the same situation for over 6 months.
I have been having these exact symptoms for years I am 42 and male, seems to come and go. Red puffy eyes, go to bed fine wake up swollen irritated and if I run hot water on it, which feels good, it gets really bad, skin flakes and peels. I am finally getting to the bottom of it. If I eat foods which contain Nitrates, or Sulphates, Sulphites I will react. Seems if I eat too much Wheat, too many days in a row it will happen. I can now feel within minutes if a food is going to react with me. My eye lid and area below my eye will start to become itchy, irritated. I used to get ecezma , but after I cleaned up my diet I got rid of it. It seems the more I clean up my diet, I am more prone to food sensitivity. Preparation H is the only cream that reduces swelling and in pain free. Cream, not ointment.
I am having a similar problem ... about a week ago i woke up with swollen eyelids . it subsided alittle , but not much . I was worried so i went to the doctor . first he said it is probubly because i have been exersizing more than usual and that i have probubly been drinkingmore than usual and that that was my problem and it should subbside , and not to have too much food with salt . i woke up , the same . but i noticed things have been changing with it , now , i am swollen under my eyes , but not right under , more like almost and inch under and it seems to be running up to my nose arch . right under my eyes my skins looks wierd ... almost like it is wrinky .. but i am deffinitally not old enough to be getting any wrinkes yet . it is the same with above my eye , on my eyelid , and i noticed alittle bit of flaky skin . I went to the doctor again and he said it is probubly because i am on my period . but wheni got this .. it was a couple days before i started my period . I'm still very worried and this swelling is depressing me and it makes my face look ever fatter... it hasnt subsided much at all and i dont know what to do . help ? :-(
Hi Everbody,
I am experiencing the same thing and I can say some of the puffiness could be caused by spicy foods and pepper. You may want to stay away from these foods and see what happens.

I got the same problem, this is called Dermatisis, it happens with the consmetics(Moisturisers, Bath Bars, Face Creams, Shampoos, Laundry detergent & Lanudry Softners, Perfumes, Deos). Make sure first and fore most, avoid all cosmetics with fragrance, try to use water based, fragrance free, parabi free moisturises, Use Free & Clear Shampoos, CERAVE hydrating Cleansers, CERAVE Moisturisers. if not Use Tom's of Maine fragrnace free, uncented Bath bars. User All Clear Laundry detergent liquids. Stay away for all these things. You will see the changes in your body,
When the symptomes like this( rashes, bumy eyes) means our immunity is seviourly down, we have to improve the immunity, that is why doctors give us "Prednisone", do not take too much Prednisone. Try to use Probiotic Acidophilious supplements, which improves our immunity.
And also consider for Allery Patch test, so that dermotologist can tell narrowly u what substance causing the allertgies to your body, so that we can stay away for that substance(s).
Hope you will be benefitised from this.
Thanks
Suresh

Doctors FINALLY found out my eye swelling, itchiness, and dry eyes was caused by strep germs--or staph, BOTH can do this to your eyes, and it's nearly impossible to tell which without a biopsy or something, but they are both treated the same way--with oral antibiotic. It is dangerous (in rare cases) to let this go on without treatment, for fear of spreading the strep/staph into the brain, my eye doctor said. For me, it took two courses of antibiotic pills to clear it completely up. I never knew until this that the same germs that can cause strep throat can cause eye infection! That, and staph, can enter your skin around the eye area through the slightest scratch or opening. (In my case, I suspect it was from my tweezer. Now, I sterilize it in the dishwasher once a week.) I tried over the counter antibiotic cream, and that made it worse. The doctor said I should have used ointment, not cream... but he preferred I just take the oral antibiotics. Also, because of the damage done from getting this more than once, I now have dry eyes. This good eye doctor I found who helped me discover the strep/staph (instead of just writing it off as blepharitis) also advised me to only use eye drops containing "cellulose" since that helps soothe dry eyes the best. Just like with blepharitis, strep or staph eye infections is soothed during healing, by soaking your eyes in clean bath water/shower as warm as you can stand it, and/or moist hot compresses, such as a soft washcloth and very warm water. Eye drops help the soreness. Anti-inflammatories of your choice (aspirin, ibuprofen) help the swelling and the pain. But if your body can't fight off the strep or staph on it's own, you will require oral antibiotics. Remember, strep and staph germs are EVERYWHERE. If they invade your eye, you will get symptoms and need treatment.
I had something similar where the area under my left eye became swollen. It looked a little like someone punched me in the eye. This persisted for over a year. It turned out it was related to a foam contour pillow I adopted as my favorite pillow. Apparently I am either allergic to the foam they use, or the foam itself outgases something my eye does not like. After only a few days of using a different pillow, my eye is 90% improved. I would take this as evidence that this condition is an allergic or toxic reaction to something that is getting to your eye or the skin around your eye. Foam rubber pillows are definitely suspect in my book.
I have just developed these same symptoms. My eyelids are drooping almost over my eyelashes. The skin all around my eyes is dry and flaking and swollen, and it stings a bit. I bagged my new feather pillows, so will see if that works.
i am a novice bodybuilder and have been eating a lot of tunafish, anywhere from 3-6 170g cans a week. i got 2 large, red, rashes under both my eyes and skin started to peel on the rashes. it doesnt itch much, but just looks bad. i recently stopped eating tunafish to see if this was the cause and it seems like the rashes arent as red now, but i'll wait another week or two to be sure, then start eating tunafish again to see if they come back.
HI
i have he sme problem. i also am trying everything and anything and this is wrong but im so deperate to get rid of this. I have tried putting honey in my eyes. YES honey in m eyes everytime i came home from work. it does work, stings like crazy, but brouhjt the redness down and almost got rid of the puffiness. BUT it was still there and if there was one day i didnt put honey in my eyes... it would come back :( I have been to the doctors as well and im fed up with them. I cant believe there are so many people with this and no one has been able to correctly diagnose this, now im more depressed .. haha :)
