I have the same issue, with my sweet taste buds. I know what caused mine though, I had gotten my tongue pierced and they obviously went through a nerve or something. The issue that I am having is the fact that everything I had read over said that after removal and having time to heal the taste would come back.
Well needless to say just over a year later I still have no sweet tastes, but ever since the initial injury to my nerves I have been have issues with toothpaste. It seems that everytime I brush my teeth I get a severe burning sensation in my mouth, especially around the front of my tongue. Could it be my toothpaste that is preventing the taste from coming back? Are there any toothpastes that burn less?
Thanks
About 10 years ago I noticed that I couldnt taste the sweetness in anything I ate but if I ate a dinner (meat, gravy and veg) then my taste would be that of eating a jammy donut. The only think that I can remember being fairly normal was potato. Eventually, I decided to re-train my taste buds and, for instance, would try to eat a peach every day for a week or so and I did this with other fruits and in the end my taste buds accepted the flavour. I would have to ask my husband if the fruit, cake etc was very sweet or moderately sweet and had to be guided by him. Every so often now I do think that something tastes wrong but realise that it is still a bit of a lingering problem. I had extensive tests at the hospital but nothing was discovered that could be the cause. However, at the time I was taking HRT and the hospital felt that it would be detrimental to stop taking the hormone simply to find out if it was the cause of the taste problem. So, none the wiser ....................
I am also a victim of not tasiting sweet- Mine happened specifically last Saturday between lunch and dinner- all sweets taste like mud- my tongue feels a sensation all the time like perhaps I ate something sort of hot- but not burning-just a slight different sensation. I went to my dr. yesterday- he is baffled- I too amd going crazy- as I am a food tech teacher and need the sweet taste to teach my students-Anyone find out the problem???? Let me know please
Thx
I lost my sense of taste about nine months ago. I was taking Omeprazole for acid reflux. My dentist suggested I stop, which I did and it improved somewhat. I then tried another medication, Prevacid, and the sense of taste got weak again. So I have stopped taking any anti-reflux meds except Pepcid. The sense of taste is slowly returning, but sweet taste is only slightly improved. I think it will just take time. I did lose twenty-five pounds, which is exactly the right amount, so it isn't all bad.
At one point the only things I could eat were, crispbread with butter spread, Rice Krispie treats, and some kinds of soup, the creamy ones. Everything else was so tasteless I couldn't get it down me.
When I get my taste back fully, I will appreciate good food and try not to eat any more rubbish!
