I appreciate everyone sharing about this. I'm 35 and my fingers and palm of my hand started to completely peel a few months ago, and now they have just started again. There's no itchiness like some people reported, but fingers due seem to absorb water like some people said, which I guess is due to the new skin not being so resilient yet.

I can help say what isn't causing it. As far as I know, I haven't changed my soap. I live in a humid country so it's not dry weather. I don't think I've really changed my diet in any related way.

However I found it interesting that a few people here reported getting sick before it happened. When I think about it, I was also sick around the same time this first started, and I felt my immune system was low from a lot of traveling I had been doing. This time however I feel okay, but maybe the initial sickness triggered something.

Common sense tells me it's a deficiency in something. It will be great if someone finds a shareable answer.

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat. My finger tips and thumbs (occasionally the palms of my hands) develop tiny liquid bubbles under the uppermost skin surface, they eventually pop, peel, and get red/scaley. It's not really painful - a little sometimes. Water seems to make it worse...a 10 minute shower makes my fingertips look like I've bene swimming for a day. The real bizarre thing is that it only happens once per year (around April) and lasts 3-4 weeks. I actually found a doctor who had the same thing happening to his hands. He tried all kinds on himseld including wearing surgical gloves at night with lotion in them (That would mutilate my hands if I tried it). Of all the things he suggested I did take well to a steroid that comes out like mousse (can't remember the name of it). Although that only helped for a couple years - now my hands seem to mostly resist it. Anyways, I'm wirting because after dealing with this for 10 years I thought I'd look on the web (it is April). It's somewhat comforting knowing their are other reptile-handed people out there - but it still sucks. Looking forward to May when I shed my scales and get new hands.

The skin on my fingers teens to get dry and peel too, but I'm pretty sure its just dry skin and I make it worse by picking at it. However, whatever it is several people seem to have in this post RESULTS in dry, cracked skin, so what I do (at least for my fingers) is vaseline and rubber/latex gloves, and then bandaids with vaseline overnight. For me, this helps heal it up some without making it too soggy, although I wouldn't wear the gloves for a long time. I'm sure this wont cure it, but it might help it heal faster if it is going to heal. Also, if you haven't already, keep a diary of what food you eat and things you do with your hands from the time they start getting better until they get worse, and maybe you can identify if it is something you are doing.

Anyways, I wish everyone the best of luck :-)

I have had Exzema since i was a baby, i am now 20 and for the last two years i have had, on and off, peeling fingertips. It starts as i dry blister or skin bubble and i can peel it off without it hurting. The skin underneath is tender and sometimes itchy due to the tenderness. I use something called Avene trixera cream you can get at most drug stores, it had NO chemicals in it so doesn't iritae it further. This seems to help, and yes it is a form of exzema wich occurs in adults more than children, things like water, soap, scented hand creams, anything with harsh chemicals will really irritate it. This is what it was for me, hope it helps.
If all else fails see your doctor, it would never hurt.

O.k. folks, been searching all day and I found out what the heck is going on!!!! Keratolysis exfoliative. Thick peeling of the palms, finger, souls of feet. Creams containing urea, lactic acid or silicone can help relieve but there is no cure. Just ride it out. I found a bunch of pics that matched my son exactly. Nothing to worry about just really annoying. I'm just so happy that after so many years I found it!!!!

It is not Kawasaki's Disease. That is Autoimmune. In order for it to be autoimmune, u need to have 2 symptoms + 1 positive test for autoantibodies.

I have suffered with eczema on both my hands for 3 years as a middle aged adult, but has been completely controlled with the use of a very expensive hand cream. Using corticosteroid medication only cleared it up as I was using it and would come back within a week after stopping it even when using a base cream daily.
And recently, after getting the flu twice the end of one of my fingers would get tender and swell then go hard and crack and peel off, this is so strange- just the one finger??
Anyone else out there.

I have had similar problems with fingers peeling and bubbling etc.
i have discovered that i have type A dermatitis on my hands and a latex allergy.
my latex allergy took 3-5 weeks to appear after i'd had contact with latex making it hard to diagnose.
i haven't had any problems in 3 years after staying away from harsh soaps and latex. i hope this helps!

none of the post tells me the cure or what it is. my hands (fingers) peeled for no reason. i thought it was due to dry skin but it seems that the more i put hand cream or lotion, my skin peels more. i can even feel and see the bottom layer of my skin now. it hurts like there are small, invisible cuts but no bleeding.

it's getting unbearable. the peeling started on my left hand and a few days later, my right hand starts to peel.

I have the same condition: my skin starts peeling off my fingers every once in a while. At first my GP said I was allergic to paper. Then he said it might be because of the salt used in the soft-water system in the building I live in. Then he said it might be the plastic in my mouse and keyboard.....But then I realized that the condition is totally stress related. Honestly nothing helps. I have tries steroid creams, hand lotions, drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water per day, nothing helps. The condition is some sort of an eczema brought on by stress. So the only thing that will get rid of the condition is relaxation and stress reduction.

I've had the same thing going on for quite a while, a few years at least... The skin on my
fingers gets thick and hard, it will catch on anything it comes near... Clothes, hair, ANYTHING!
The skin is completely dead and kinda keeps me from feeling very much on my fingertips.
Lotions keep it from being too dry but it just keeps building up and getting thicker all the time.
I've been resorting to using the big toenail clippers to carve away the skin. Some spots, like
near the corner of each fingertip, can get as much as 1/8 of an inch thick at times... The worst
is on my right pinkie, the ENTIRE tip on the last section of the finger gets a massive callus
covering it. It's completely smooth and has no feeling at all. It soaks up water more than any
other affected area and turns completely white.

I'm not too concerned with the appearance really... But what could be CAUSING this has kinda
worried me. I've got a very prevalent history of diabetes and cancer in my family among other
things. The fact that no one has really gotten any idea what causes this or if it's dangerous
has me kinda worried...

Although my reply to this message is over two years old, I am wondering what feedback/solutions have been put forward as I have been having the same problem with my hands for about 12-18 months.

Some people stated they experience the peeling after a short illness. This was the same for me: a sore throat and some sinus issues then, later, the peeling, starting with little white air bubbles on the pads and sides of my fingers. There's no itching, no pain, no bleeding. It may be caused by a strep infection. I'm nearly positive this was the case for me.

Yep, I agree that this is mostly stress/allergy related, although NOT a topical type of allergy; like using new soap or cream. I feel if you are prone to allergies or eczema(although this is not eczema either) & become overly stressed that this is something that is more likely to happen.

I also will get this on my feet. Including the bubbles that appear & itching & some tenderness. Went to doctor, she had no idea what it was, was not funga or eczemal. Steroid creams did not help, in fact they made mine worse. Pure mineral oil works the best for me & I mostly use it at night only on hands, but in morning & at night for feet. I've also used olive oil, but found mineral oil works best, even helps with the itching.

I was diagnosed with Psoriasis when I worked at a deli making sandwiches and salads when I was 18. My dermatologist told me the acids in the food was exacerbating my problem, so I quit the job. At full breakout my hands were covered and I couldn't straighten my fingers out or lay my hand flat on a surface and I had no fingerprints. When I went to the DMV to get a new driving license they couldn't properly fingerprint me!

In winter off and on through my life - I'm 39 - I've gotten a bout of it on one or two fingers which had rings on them that I didn't take off (wedding ring). How I deal with it when it crops up is take my rings off, use a hand dryer in the ladies room after washing my hands, use gloves when washing dishes or cleaning, use soaps that don't contain: ammonium/sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, and apply a mix (1:1) of macadamia nut oil and grapeseed oils as often as possible (about 6 drops of the mix in the palm seems to spread well over my hands). I use those oils because I find they sink in quickly which is essential if I don't want things to slip out of my hands at work. I take supplements including: Vitamin C + Zinc, Fish oils, Borage and Evening primrose oils, B-Complex, Selenium, Resveratrol, Honegar (a mix of Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar) and I stick quite closely to the alkaline diet. I'm prone to Eczema/Dermatitis/Rosacea so the supplements, alkaline diet and I avoid several other ingredients in all products that touch my skin or hair; this all keeps my other dermatological ailments at bay including the Psoriasis on my hands. The other ingredients I avoid in hair conditioner and shampoo (you put your hands in your hair to wash it, after all), body wash, toothpaste, lotions, etc. are, again, ammonium/sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, isopropyl anything, petrochemicals such as paraffin, petrolatum & mineral oil, fluoride and tartar control ingredients, cinnamon artificial flavor. I use Rhassoul Morroccan red clay to shampoo/condition, simple olive oil traditional soap (e.g. Savon de Marseilles), Macadamia Nut oil + Grapeseed as body oil and facial cleanser and moisturiser (honey such as Bee Yummy Skin Food is good, too).

Steroid topicals of any sort are NOT RECOMMENDED! These thin the skin irreversibly and they are totally unnecessary.

I noticed that someone had luck with sun cream, which is probably due to the Zinc oxide in sun cream. Zinc oxide is also the major ingredient of Diaper rash cream and Calamine lotion. It is very effective in soothing rash or other skin conditions, which is why I take it as a supplement.

To re-iterate, keep your hands DRY and apply the oils and take the supplements especially the B-Complex, Fish oils and Zinc.
